"This quaint spots looks like just another family brownstone on a lovely street. As the kind of place you could easily move into, it's no surprise that this 12-room hotel does have residences available for longer stays. You’ll sleep in Frette linens and take strolls around Gramercy Park. The Inn has the sweetest tea room in town, too, called Lady Mendl’s."

Perfect for what myself and my friend wanted for our first trip to New York. Fabulous location and the bar downstairs was nice for a night cap after our show at Irving Plaza! We loved the vintage feel about the whole place as well.

One of the best places in the City. A hidden gem into the past of Gramercy. Wonderful staff, beautiful environment, great tea service, incredible linens. I could go on forever. I want to stay here forever.

Google
Service, location, amenities… everything is very exclusive and wonderful. Highly recommended! We stayed in room Stanford White on the second floor, facing the peaceful backyard. Super comfortable bed, very spacious, lots of storage, wonderful bathroom. Two beautiful brownstones connected, lovely common area. There is a tea room which we did not test but looked fabulous. The bar was closed but also looked very promising. I’ve been to NYC several times but this was by far the best experience. Thank you TIAIP Team!

This hotel is VERY different from a normal hotel. It's in a converted brownstone and only has a few rooms. My room is HUGE, easily 4-5 times the size of a normal Manhattan room. The decorations are classic and can look old at times, but it's a really unique effect and I like it. It's also the quietest hotel I've ever stayed in on Manhattan. I had trouble getting the wifi to work, so business travelers that can't hotspot may want to look elsewhere. I will definitely stay here again!

Google
Super-chic yet Charming tea room/hotel takes you on a Magic Carpet Ride to another time and place. Opulent, ornate and very low-key, it is definitely a reminder of a New York from yesterday. Keeping true to its culture and charm. I would definitely recommend going to have a cup of tea and cookies with your best friend or a third date.

Google
The service and ambiance here were exceptional. The building has a lot of personality and the charm of an old inn. The suite I stayed in was generously large, and it overlooked Irving Place with a lovely view. If you're a light sleeper, you'll want some ear plugs if you're staying in a room that overlooks the street, as it is an old building not built to be soundproof.

Google
The Inn at Irving Place is two old town houses converted into a 12 room hotel. I would more accurately describe it as a bed and breakfast. Outside is a nondescript building making the Inn attractive for folks such as celebrities looking for a stay in NYC. The lack of a sign was a bit confusing. Just look for the address of 56 Irving Place. I highly recommend for the charm alone. We attended a show at Irving Plaza, which is about 2 blocks from the Inn. The Union Square subway station is about five blocks from the Inn, making travel to it a cinch. We will definitely stay there again the next time we visit that part of town. Some photos of the dining room where a nice breakfast is served are included with this review.

Superb location, staff and rooms. Very recommendable place to stay. For starters: breakfast....very good, high tea.....very good, every single room has its own ambiance, you really feel treated like a valuable friend. Congrats.

Yelp
I placed 6 remote coworkers at the Inn for my company's holiday offsite and they loved it. Pros: - I was stressed out finding a suitable hotel for my group a month before they arrived during the busiest time of the year in NYC. The Inn checked so many boxes: Everyone had their own rooms w/ private bathrooms, historic & charming finishes (in a 19th-century brownstone townhouse!), and a 7 min walk to our office on 19th & Broadway. It was also more affordable than numerous hotels such as The Freehand, Sonder, and Moxy. The only cheaper hotel was POD 39 but everyone would have had to share rooms with bunk beds and subway to the office! My coworkers loved the Inn and raved about how large and cute the rooms were. They didn't mind not having an elevator at all. - Excellent service: While other hotels were curt, rude, and unresponsive (typical NYC)....Carolyn was the opposite, she did a great job in handling my company booking. Thank you!

Yelp
This is a beautiful old inn. They have not quite reopened since Covid but it is a lovely place to stay. There is no coffee option in the morning but when Grace, their lovely manager shared that they were encouraging guests to support local businesses, I didn't fret. It is perfectly situated for great coffee, breakfast, lunch, snacks, wine, you name it. What a great area! Staff goes above and beyond at every turn. I needed an umbrella and was given a choice. They recommended a great Indian restaurant nearby. I will always stay here from now on. Loved the ambiance. Loved the service.

Yelp
Lovely boutique hotel and staff. Grace was warm and incredibly welcoming! I would only recommend coffee service

Yelp
I recently stayed here for a week while the wife was having surgery around the corner (couldn't stay with her). I chose this hotel based on two factors. Walking distance to the hospital, and old world charm. There are several modern hotels in the area, but I prefer the former. The Inn is situated in two brownstones. When you walk in, you are transformed back to early 20th century NYC. The parlor with fireplace aglow, and a quaint, beautifully appointed tea room. There is no elevator, and two series of steps to get to the top floor, about a dozen each. Wasn't an issue for me, but I could see it being difficult for elderly/disabled. The room was fantastic! While walking into the room, swing music was playing on the flat screen TV......nice touch! Approximately 250-300 square feet of room, and a nice, clean bathroom with shower. The room was decorated in Victorian furnishings, which were beautiful. There are a few dings and scrapes here and there, but that just added to the charm. All of the staff were friendly and aimed to please. There is a hip club downstairs, and the bartender know how to mix some awesome cocktails. I think I had "City Courage", which was delicious! There are a lot of great restaurants nearby, as well as great nightspots.... the Village is close. My only complaint is that the bed was too firm. I definitely will be back when the wife is better, this time for a pleasure visit. Thanks to the staff for making a bad situation tolerable!!

Yelp
Love this Inn . Rooms are roomy & beautifully appointed . High quality linens & towels are plush Breakfast is included , and looked wonderful , I just wanted my morning coffee sent up & it was delivered daily on a beautiful tray , gorgeous tea pot and delicate tea cup . The beds so comfortable & we slept well nightly . So many great places to walk to , bookshops , ABC furnishings , cafes & nice restaurants . Also , downstairs , a hip cocktail lounge , that we checked out nightly , nice vibe and good libations . We had menus from the bar , and it's a nice feature , they deliver to the rooms . The lobby is stunning , service top notch . Not stuffy & the brownstone , is historic & unassuming , ( no signage ) . Really fun place to stay . We will return .

Yelp
I've stayed here a dozen times or so over the years. Hidden gem. Amazingly quiet. Best location downtown. Staff is incredibly warm. The bar is a nice reveal as well. Two thumbs up!

Yelp
What a nice little hotel in the heart of Gramercy in NYC. This hotel is historic and quaint. I found the prices reasonable for the city. Cute little bar downstairs and nice restaurants in the neighborhood. Staff were very friendly too.

Yelp
Had wonderful service at the Tea Room on Sunday July 9th. I took my friend from Mexico to treat him to a luxurious NYC experience. Alberto, Our server Susanne was exceptional.

Yelp
I can't believe no one has reviewed this hotel (or at least no one who actually stayed here). What a wonderful inn this is! It's in a great part of town on a relatively quiet street with lots of restaurants within walking distance. Union Square is about a 5 minute (or less) walk. The inn as made up of 2 joined brownstones and is decorated with Victorian antiques. We stayed in the Sarah Bernhardt (sp?) room, which is a junior suite. I was really surprised how large the room was (you hear so much about NYC rooms being tiny). I had my husband pace off the room with his size 13 feet and I guesstimate that the room was about 25x18 feet not counting the area off to the side where the closet, mini bar, and bathroom were. The room was very clean and comfortable. A continental breakfast with coffee/tea, fresh squeezed juices, pastries, cheese, fruit, etc. was provided each morning. It was quite nice. As far as price, I thought this place was very reasonable for NYC. I would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
The hotel itself is an amazing find! A converted brownstone tucked into a quiet block on Irving Place. The rooms are huge, especially for NYC standards. And the ceilings, furnishings, linens (frette) & every touch are a special treat. So why only 3 stars, you ask? I had a poor experience that escalated quickly because the staff isn't trained for the standard of customer service that the guests of the hotel deserve. On our second (and final) night, our television turned on, full blast, at 4:30a. Startled, I jumped out of bed, turned the TV off, called the front desk to let them know & then spent the next 1.5+ hours trying to get my 2 year old back to sleep. And then it happened again at 7:30a. I mentioned it as we were checking out a few hours later & the front desk staff told me that it was not possible that it had happened. Yeah, I imagined it. Or better yet, I made it up. I asked that she have a manager contact me to discuss. By 5p, I hadn't heard from anyone so I called again, only to be told that the manager was too busy to speak to me & again, that it is not possible that the TV would have just turned itself on. And worse, this staffer was condescending & rude, instead of apologetic. Despite multiple calls since checking out last Wednesday, I have yet to hear from anyone in management. And anyone I have explained the situation to has taken the same stance. It never happened before & it hasn't happened since, so it couldn't have happened. Such a bummer that this amazing place comes with an untrained staff that lacks customer service skills. Worth taking your chances, with open eyes...

Yelp
We stayed here for 4 nights in the early part of May and loved it. Charming, low-key and quiet. It truly felt like a refuge from the city. The staff is friendly and respectfully unobtrusive. The location is fantastic and the neighborhood is very charming. We stayed in the Stanford White room on the third floor and enjoyed it's top floor location in the back of the building. Both the room and the bathroom were so much bigger than I expected. The building and antique furnishings are gently worn, adding to the feeling of comfort. The Inn is the antithesis of the W Hotel. The continental breakfast in the tea salon was lovely. We were often the only ones there and enjoyed leisurely breakfasts reading the Times. The restaurant, Pure, and the martini bar, Cibar, on the ground floors are delicious and definitely worth checking out. I gave it 5 stars for value, service, comfort, location, and atmosphere.

Yelp
OMG we stayed here last weekend for 4 nights. Our daughter lives on this street and we randomly picked this place because it was close. What a gem, we totally lucked out. I loved the spacious room, high ceilings and the service was amazing. The coffee was delicious. We were so busy that I didn't get a chance to check out the bar downstairs but we will be back!! :) If you need to stay in this area, quit looking and stay here. It's that good.

Michael Z.

Yelp
This tea room is so rude. I came for tea and they told me to not trespass in someone's home. I only came for some earl gray! WTF

Lewis L.

Yelp
This place is awesome, Jennie and the rest of the management and staff are extremely professional and accommodating. Any interaction with them is a pleasure and I always look forward to my time here. The bar is upbeat and clean, the music is great, the drinks are awesome and the staff just wants to make sure that you have a great time. I cant say enough about this place.

Yelp
Historic. Authentic. Nice luxury towels, and quality toiletries. The room is full of antiques. Location is in a GREAT neighborhood away from the noise, hustle and bustle, but full of GREAT restaurants. We loved it.

Andrea D.

Yelp
I can't give it five stars because I never actually slept there, but I loved visiting my friend's parents there when they did... The breakfast was divine (light, buttery scones and croissants, fresh berries, yogurt, and oatmeal all done deliciously) and the rooms were well furnished and comfortable. The street is a quiet, small one with restaurants and shops, but it's also a very short walk to Union Square (Greenmarket!!) and all the trains, cabs and New York hubbub you could ask for. A home away from home. No, wait--much more luxurious than that. And the staff is unbelievably courteous.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I spent one night here and it was adorable! We stayed in a place in Bruges that was a part of the "Best Little Hotels" community so he finds out about great little places and this is one of them! It reminded us so much of our time in Bruges. There's at the most 8 rooms, so it's very quaint. The staff was very attentive. We were greeted with two glasses of champagne and an employee graciously took our two pieces of luggage up two flights of stairs for us. The breakfast is very cute but I wouldn't recommend it if you're starving.. the coffee was quite delicious though :). We loved that it had fire escape, I felt like I was in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" ;). I can't wait to stay here again... we loved everything about it. So different from staying big, chain hotels! The location is fantastic as well... the street was very quiet.

Yelp
This place is as good as it gets. It's tucked away on the best street in NYC, Irving, in an idyllic brownstone. We had my bridal shower at Lady Mendls Tea Room and most of the guests stayed at the Inn, and it happened to fall on the weekend of Blizzard Jonas. If it were being hosted anywhere else, it could have very well been a disaster, but the staff was AMAZING. We ended up literally taking over the inn because everyone was stuck for an extra night, bringing wine into the main living area, etc. They even offered to open up the bar downstairs even though no one was staying at the inn but us. Not only did the entire staff show up during a blizzard to make my shower perfect, they didn't make us feel rushed once despite the looming travel ban. My out of town guests were on a first name basis with the staff by the end of the weekend, who made everyone feel so welcome and comfortable. The rooms were amazing - exactly what I'd hoped when I first had an afternoon tea downstairs. This is a really special place.

Yelp
Phenomenal in every way. The staff, the suite, the parlors, the breakfast room, so wonderful and a perfect place to stay in NYC! If you want comfort and a feeling of being at home, this is the place to stay. You will not be disappointed- it's a hidden gem!

Yelp
okay maybe i'm a tad bit partial to this place as i had my wedding here....but this place is fabulous. i was treated like a princess from the moment we checked in, and i did not have to go downstairs to check on anything the day of the wedding. everything was taken care of and set up better than i could ever have dreamed. our suite was extremely spacious, clean and comfortable and the food was divine. our wedding was extremely magical and i wish i could stay here every night! PS- if staying on a fri/sat, bring earplugs...cibar can get bumpin'.

Yelp
A most delightful place to stay. Near Gramercy Park. We were in town for my husbands eye surgery nearby and decided to return to the Inn, which we had stayed in several years ago. Upon arrival, Joshua, whom I had made the reservation with, was very welcoming and gave us a suite on the first floor so my husband would not have to climb the many steep stairs up to the other rooms. Our room was stunning and huge! The breakfasts are very nice. Joshua made a special delivery to us early the next morning, to bring a heavy breakfast for my husband, whose surgery was late in the day. What a guy! We did not get back until 9 pm. Upon the staff suggestion we picked up the most delicious roast chicken dish from Pete's Tavern a block away. True comfort food. Nice, lively tavern. The next morning everyone was considerate and quite caring about how we were. Alphonso, who had been on the day before, made sure we were comfortable. The neighborhood is quiet and has incredible old homes to view. The Theodore Roosevelt Childhood home is nearby and is worth a look. It is free! All in all, a wonderful stay. Will return

David J.

Yelp
The hotel is truly a wonderful place. Indeed, for the price, it is impossible for me to imagine a better hotel. From quality of room to location of hotel, I am so very, very, very lucky to have discovered this hotel.

Robert M.

Yelp
Stayed here to "get away" from the kids for a night. Top quality place. The Inn is a beautiful old home, maybe mid 1800's. While everything feels antique, the comforrt is high quality. Wonderful old furniture but very comfortable bed and great shower/bath. When you check in, they have some champagne for you and the breakfast (included) had some very nice cheese, breads and teas. Lady Mendl's is here as is Cibar in the basement. Nice neighborhood, quiet. Beats the hell out of the chain hotels and the ultra modern but uncomfortable places downtown.

L C.

Yelp
I used to stay here all the time. It was a wonderful small and quiet place. However, the owners have now decided to put a dance club in and the music is bumping until the wee hours of the morning. It has completely ruined my experience of the Inn and is in-congruent to what I liked so well about it.
