Charming brownstone eatery serving up spicy Caribbean comfort food and delicious rum cocktails, with a laid-back vibe that invites you back for more.
"Imani has dishes ranging from spicy spare ribs with pineapple to an ackee and saltfish spring roll, but the restaurant most notably has options for vegans looking to satisfy a craving for Caribbean (or non-Caribbean) comfort food. The cozy brownstone restaurant in Fort Greene serves curried vegetables with chickpeas and okra, as well as a Beyond Meat burger." - Korsha Wilson, Brianne Garrett, Ryan Sutton
"If summer were a restaurant, it would be Imani. People seem to always be having the time of their lives at this Caribbean spot on the corner of Dekalb and Adelphi. Usually, you’ll hear reggae music blasting from their newly expanded outdoor patio, where almost every table is topped with glasses of rum punch. Most of the food is Jamaican like curry goat and jerk chicken wings, but they also do some mashup dishes like saltfish spring rolls and jerk ramen." - nikko duren
"We both ordered chicken and waffles at Imani in Fort Greene — I get a side of cheese grits, which is atop with coconut flakes, and while I’m a proud Jamaican, one thing I do not like are coconut flakes."
"Located in brownstone, Imani Caribbean Kitchen is where you pull up for brunch and special occasions. As a lover of seafood, I went straight for the vacay we are all waiting for with the “Pan di Beach,” a coconut-seafood stew with lobster, scallops, shrimp, PEI mussels, and, yes, scotch bonnet peppers. I was also excited to sample their version of accras, Atlantic codfish fritters served with lime and curry dipping sauce. Since we were on the beach, I went for the classic Caribbean rum punch. I can’t wait to go back with a group of friends to try their stuffed plantain boat, ackee spring rolls, and the personalized mimosa experience. It’ll be tough to decide between passion, guava, and mango." - Shelley Worrell 31
"Almost everything on the menu here - including meal combinations like curry goat with rice and a salad, or codfish fritters, mac and cheese, and kale salad - is $15 or less. We say almost because this Fort Greene Caribbean spot also offers catering options that will feed ten people. The next time you’re planning a backyard meet up with some people in your social pad, order a tray of spicy spare ribs and 25 fish tacos from Imani’s website." - Hannah Albertine, Nikko Duren, Bryan Kim, Matt Tervooren
