"Named after Hawaii’s state fish, this open-air restaurant is right on the water at the Grand Wailea Resort. Expect at least two surprise marriage proposals per meal and some of the best sunset views on the island under the Polynesian-style thatched roofs. Like most resort restaurants, it’s pricey, but the food and the atmosphere at Humuhumu make it worthwhile. Great sports bar! Went here for lunch with our family on vacation. The service was not the best as they only had two waiters working the floor, and one had the entire bar area as well. We had to call for their attention and order all at once or risk being delayed in service. The food came out was VERY GOOD! We purchased the steak sub and Kailua pork sub, both were superb!!! They are pretty large, so you can share them if you want too. No sides given, or needed. The bar drink options were good, we sampled some different beers. The atmosphere was great as it’s above ground, so you can sit near the edge and see the ocean and feel its breeze, it’s very nice. Plenty of TVs, good amount of seating. Check it out!

I ordered the fish sandwich, blackened, with a side salad. I was told the fish was fresh caught which is good. But the blackening was sparse and the fish itself was a bit dry and dense. The fries were good and crispy. The side salad and house made dressing were okay. The coffee was standard fare, not bad, not great. The best thing about this restaurant is the view and location. The ocean breeze is phenomenal.

Late on a Sunday and short on time to get to the airport, the staff was very accommodating! They have an upstairs and downstairs dining area overlooking Alii Drive with a great view of the ocean. I'm sure it's amazing for the famous Kona sunsets! The lilikoi drinks are good, it's very spacious and comfortable.

Plenty of parking, we were seated right away and the food was fair priced. Our group ordered appetizers before our flight. The food came out quickly and we had a gorgeous view of the ocean while we ate!

A Scenic Dining Experience with Room for Improvement Humpy’s Ale House Kona offers a fantastic ocean view from its second-floor dining area, making it a great choice for a casual meal with a stunning backdrop. While the service was friendly and attentive, the food left a bit to be desired. We opted for the New York strip and Chicken Alfredo, both of which were decent but not exceptional. The prices were on the higher side, especially considering the $20 parking fee. Overall, while the ambiance and view were enjoyable, we felt that the food and pricing didn’t quite live up to the expectations.

This place is now called Laverne's. THE FOOD WAS SO AMAZING. Our waitress, Lizzie, was new, but seemed like she had been there for years. She recommended some amazing dishes, was attentive to our needs and just all around gave great service. Food is delivered directly from the kitchen with a food waiter. Everything came out fresh and hot as it was made. My daughter and I said we were going to try everything new. We had steamed clams in white sauce with sausage, fried pickles and garlic shrimp. We were stuffed but still had to order another order of fried pickles to go. They were the best we have ever had. Pickles were so fresh, they still made a crisp sound when biting. All I can say is we went back a second time!!!

I’ve eaten here for years when I come on island. It’s the first place I go when I get off the plane. I love the service, the atmosphere, and the food is ON POINT. I love their burger, their buffalo chicken wings, their fish sandwich, and their steamed clams. Tons of great options. I love it. My wife has to force me to eat other places when I’m on the Big Island 🤣. I mean, she likes Humpeys too. But not for every meal, I guess 🤣🤣 Great place to go. I highly recommend.

This place had a fantastic bartender, Jamie, who was easy to talk to and had great stories. The mozzarella sticks came with a great sauce. The pizza was ok but not the best I’ve ever had. Drinks were a great price during Gametime for NFL. The atmosphere was amazing, I came on vacation and everyone from locals and out of towners were talking to each other because of Jamie, and the ocean view was amazing. I made the mistake of not coming here until the last day of my vacation, DO NOT ignore this restaurant. I don’t leave reviews often unless a place really stands out and this one really made me happy. I’m definitely coming back next time I’m on the big island of Hawaii.
