How to Spend Up to a Week in Vienna (Updated 2025)

"This small but fascinating museum covers famous Austrian composers such as Mozart, Schubert, Strauss, and Schoenberg, shows early instruments, displays original manuscripts and artifacts, and even lets you conduct a virtual symphony — it's interactive, educational, and fun in my experience." - Matthew Kepnes

It is my 1st time to visit this museum. If you are learning music, you must come here to find more historical background of many music knowledge and musicians. There are some 3D visual tools you can use to feel the music such as conducting. Some rooms for you to feel the sound mobilization. Happy to come here!

We had an incredible morning at the House of Music. I recommend this place for all ages. It’s a brilliant blend of history and musical technology. Lots of interactive displays entertaining you and teaching you about sound. A great place to learn the science behind sound and also learn about the lives of some of the greatest Austrian composers who lived. Very thoughtfully laid out and easy to navigate.

So interesting museum. Great music and composer. Reminded me of my dad, playing classical music in the morning of each weekend. Taught me how to adore classic music and composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Hydin etc.

WOW! What a find for a music enthusiast! It’s absolutely fab experience and excellent value for what you seen hear and learn. Multiple levels of past present and future sounds, a real insight into Austrian music and composers of the like. Lots of interactive things to do for adults and children. Highly recommended, you won’t be bored. Also a great musical staircase that plays when you walk up it. Can’t wait to go back.

Loved every floor and every gallery. Interactive games were fun. The best of the best was experience of conducting Philharmonic Orchestra at the end (Though I sucked at it🤣🤣🤣) but enjoyed nevertheless.

Wonderful experience, will know all about the sound, music, instruments and all the musicians over the time in the country. Definitely enjoyed every moment and would recommend it.

The museum is interesting even for people who are not fans of classical music. You don't need a plan or a map to navigate inside. Depending on how detailed you look, between 2 and 4 hours are enough to go through all the floors. There are enough interactive entertainments, so it will be interesting for children too. The wardrobe is free.

isiting Vienna with kids? Haus der Musik might surprise you. This interactive sound museum isn't just for music lovers — it's a rare place where children can learn, laugh, and explore through sound. 🎼 From conducting a virtual orchestra to stepping on musical stairs that actually play notes, the museum blends science and play in a way that’s rarely seen. The Zookonzert animation zone was an absolute hit with our 3- and 6-year-olds — they stayed focused far longer than I expected! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family tip: Plan 2+ hours to enjoy it fully, especially if your kids are under 10. Staff were friendly, most instructions are in English/German, and strollers are allowed. Highly recommended for families looking for something beyond palaces and parks. Bonus: Beautiful rooftop city views halfway up!
