Stary Hotel (Krakow, Poland) 7 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"We’ll spare you the comparisons with Prague and simply say that Krakow combines picturesque good looks with affordability and livability in the manner of the best Eastern European destinations. And Hotel Stary is the kind of hotel you expect to see a bit later in a city’s tourism development — not that we’re complaining. Right in the heart of the old town, this centuries-old apartment house has been given the full boutique-luxury treatment, its grand old rooms converted into fifty-three bedrooms and suites." - Tablet Hotels

This Hotel is outstanding. Luxurious and classy. The rooms are huge (we stayed in A319). The staff are very friendly, polite and professional. There’s a small gym and 2 swimming pools, which though small, are more than adequate. There is also a water jet which allows you swim against its flow. We didn’t eat in the hotel as there are plenty options in the main square which is a 20 second walk away. Drinks are really expensive with pints of local lager and bottles of Peroni priced far more than anywhere else we went. Again, walk to the main square and there’s plenty of bars to accommodate you. Overall, an exceptional hotel.

A beautiful high standard hotel located literally off the main square. Our room was large, clean and very comfortable with all the amenities we required. The breakfast was amazing, plentiful and a variety of options. I must give special mention to two of the lovely ladies who served us there. They are Patricija and Sofiya. Both were so naturally friendly and welcoming. They were delighted to see us every morning. ||There are only two minor reasons I have given this hotel 4 out of 5. The first is that we were charged for requesting extra coffee capsules for the in room coffee maker. We paid up but this charge was only made known at check out. I kind of would have expected that a hotel of such a luxury standard would provide small things like extra coffee capsules free of charge (and we weren't asking for them all the time). ||Secondly, when we checked out the staff were lovely but there was no genuine thanks for our custom or a fond farewell. Whenever we have stayed in a hotel of this type we received all of this and more for example help with getting a taxi. We were clearly in a foreign country so even being offered last minute assistance (without us having to ask for it) would have been really appreciated.

Great design hotel. Very chic. The rooms are extremely stylish combining the old and the new. They are a little dark however (we couldn't see anything in our shower). Breakfast was good too but the service was a bit slow (wait for them to bring a menu, wait for coffee). The hotel has a great rooftop that overlooks Krakow, and a very atmospheric pool in the lower lever. Overall I would recommend but with caveats as above.

We love this hotel and keep coming back. The style and decor is unique and it has a fantastic grotto like spa area. The staff have always been courteous and professional every time we visit. If you want to be in the centre there is no better location , just a few steps away from the main square.

We are from Chicago and this was our first time in Poland and Krakow and did not know what to expect with our travels here. The hotel was really great - on par with any very nice European hotel or high-end hotel. The location was ideal for walking around, access to the main square, shopping, bars and restaurants nearby, also providing easy walking access to areas around the city that were not in the old town. The rooms were very nicely renovated, each a unique conversion of the older building and very spacious. The service was excellent as well. I would highly recommend this hotel.

My partner recommended this hotel for my five night stay with a girlfriend. We were delighted with our twin room which was spacious, comfortable, nicely furnished and much bigger than the average European hotel room. The spa area was relaxing and we both had an enjoyable massage on one occasion. Staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the roof top bar area on two occasions and were treated to a magnificent sunset. The view of the main square is lovely. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is visiting Krakow and is looking for a clean, modern, relaxing and quiet central place to stay. |The internet in room 504 was weak and kept turning off all the time which was frustrating when we were trying to research our activities and send mails. And the private functions over the weekend meant we couldn’t always use the rooftop bar when we wanted to. Other than these minor irritations, we thoroughly appreciated this lovely hotel and thank all the staff for a memorable visit.

Google
An absolutely magical hotel. The design is so unique and beautiful. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and is worth the extra spend. A few key highlights: - The rooftop bar with gorgeous views and fantastic (but pricey) cocktails. - The spa area is absolutely perfect for relaxing and recovering after long days of walking and exploring. The powerful jets in the pool were a great option when time for a massage wasn't available. - The restaurant in the lobby, 3 Rybki is stunning. We did the 6-course tasting and were blown away. Even if you don't stay in the hotel, the restaurant is worth a stop. If you are a guest, it's one of the few hotel restaurants that warrants staying on the premises for the evening.

So here is our overall experience at Hotel Stary in Krakow.||||Hotel Stary in Krakow was one of the worst hotel experiences ive ever had. From the very first night it was impossible to get any rest. The walls are paper thin. Not only did we hear constant noise from drunk guests on a wedding happening inside the hotel walls and hallway and other rooms, but also the extremely inappropriate and graphic sounds of people engaging in sexual acts next door. it was loud ,disturbing and absolutely unacceptable for a hotel charging these kind of rates. we could hear it like it was in our room.||||When i brought the issue to the staff, the response was pathetic. The manager refused to even meet us in person, Ms prystal which shows how little they care about guests once they have your money. instead of resolving the problem or offering any solution, they brushed it as normal.||||For a hotel that markets itself as high end, the reality is couldn't be further from the truth. The noise , lack of professionalism, and complete disregard for guests make this place a scam at best. upon check out the first thing i was greeted at the desk was " you owe us 140 Zl per person per day for breakfast ( another scam). You can have breakfast next door for 22 ZL a person. I had dinners at the center of the city for two people that cost way less then breakfast here. ||||save yourself the disappointment and stay literally anywhere else in Krakow. ||||We have been offered a 15% discount on two nights ( pathetic). we will formerly ask for a full refund thru the proper channels.

Yelp
The rooftop bar here is amazing. Not only do they have a great wine and cocktail list, but the service is impeccable. Plus, hard to beat the views. Strongly recommend

Yelp
"There are places where time takes on a completely different dimension. There are hotels where the exceptional atmosphere and attention to guests will make you feel truly special." - A quote from Hotel Stary's English language website This review is for a three night stay. As Jason G. mentioned, this property is in a great location, in the vicinity of Kraków's central square, and within walking distance to the best Kraków has to offer. I have to give kudos the architect that re-designed and modernized a 14th century tenement into a modern hotel. This property is exquisite and worth every dollar I spent. I decided to stay at this property because a friend and his wife held their wedding reception here. The hotel staff was very accommodating and the food was tasty for the reception. If you are Polish-American, and want to marry a Pole, pick this hotel for your destination wedding. Moving on... Regular dinner service was average. Service was exceptional, but the food was average. I truly believe the chef is heading on the right path, his restaurant will do well in the next couple of years, and will continue to be mentioned in the Michelin Guide. However, everyone has their own palette and you can judge for yourself. My only advice is that you stay away from the beef. The spa is in interesting place because the reception staff double as the masseuses. If they are fully booked, then you should contact the front desk for assistance so you can obtain a locker key, towels, etc. Also, a friggin pool in a basement! So awesome! The picture I posted does not illustrate how cool and unique this facility truly is. Overall, the spa is dark, but very peaceful and relaxing. The amenities are top notch and the spa treatment I paid for was, in the words of Charlie Sheen, "winning". The best damn massage I have ever paid for, EVER. Better than Vegas and definitely better than Hawaii. Moving back to the room...I really appreciate how the architect integrated a 14th century design, with 16th, 17th and 18th century modifications, and turned it in to a modern, 21st century hotel. The bathroom pictures posted by Jason G. do not illustrate all that is offered. Fully stocked toiletries are included and the marble floors are heated. However, the property should be more vigilant, and ensure that their WiFi speed is increased, and that all televisions work properly. Finally, you may have read reviews about this hotel being too loud. My advice, make some friends, drink socially, embrace the culture, and have a good time. Or, stay up all night during a Polish wedding reception. Either way, I am confident that you will sleep very well after a good night enjoying all that Kraków has to offer. 4.6/5 - Definitely staying at this property when I visit Kraków again. (P.S. - Room service is NOT 24/7. There are no ice machines that I could locate, but if you catch a hotel employee in a good mood, they will provide you with ice in a champagne bucket. Also, there is a convenience store within a couple of blocks where you can purchase snacks and beverages.)

Yelp
The air conditioning did not work and the room phone did not work. Every day we had to get new key cards because the electronic door lock kept resetting. The staff seemed unconcerned. While the hotel is spectacular and a great location the indifference of some of the staff was disappointing.

Yelp
I had to star this down for their truly terrible customer service. The hotel itself is beautiful and built into a medieval building which makes for a lovely atmosphere but sadly the rooms have been done more with design than with function in mind. We could hear every movement from the rooms above so if you want to sleep in, not a good choice. Our bathroom was gorgeous with a huge tub and a large rainwater shower...with only two walls and a very shallow "basin" meaning the bathroom got drenched every time we used it. The real problem was the attitude of the staff, though. On booking they offered pickup service from the airport - perfect, I gave our arrival time and flight number thinking surely if they ask for the flight number they would check for delays (which are frequent, after all, and happened in our case). Wrong - no pickup on arrival, which would not have been a big deal but when I called to ask I a) had to call twice as the callback I was promised never happened and b) I was blamed for giving the wrong arrival time. Prepayment for the hotel was taken in full which I'm fine with, but when we left we were charged in full again. I found this out on the way to the airport, called and was told the first booking was a security deposit to be released later. Again I am fine with security deposits but usually we are talking a couple hundred euro at most, not the full booking (€ 660 in our case). The money was booked back the same evening (after I asked for it) but took almost a full week to be released to my account...and again the attitude from the side of the hotel was pretty much "standard procedure, your problem for not knowing this". As for breakfast, we only went once and were not served. The buffet is fine and yes, we came down late, but we saw other guests being served who arrived later. Again, beautiful place - if the only problem had been the noise I would have given it four or even five stars but the staff really ruined this one for me.

Yelp
This is a beautiful menu and the service is the best in Poland. Went there for New Year's Eve and we went for the venue and the company we were with. The dinner was paced perfectly to the evening. The theme for the night was Tokyo and the food was delicious. There was live music and dancing. The rooftop bar at midnight was spectacular. The restaurant manager, Tomasz, was friendly and helpful. The wait staff were polite and professional. It was as close to perfect as you could get.

Yelp
Very lovely place with huge rooms and the giant tub and shower were fantastic. The have a nice pool in the cellar also offering massages. With all this it unfortunate that I wont be staying here on my next trip due to one major flaw, the place is too loud. The whole hotel is made if fantastic stonework and wood floors that echo every noise made down the halls and into the room. We were woken up way early in the morning over and over again from people talking, walking, televisions, and at one point what sounded like hammering. The place is great but the main reason I stay somewhere is to sleep at night which I got very little of here.
