Hotel Rum Budapest

There’s a lot to like about this hotel. The rooms are nice (with one exception I’ll come to later), the communal areas are well maintained and modern, the staff are friendly and very helpful, the breakfast area has fantastic views across the city rooftops and the overall location is great. ||But would we stay again? Sadly not. The main issue is that the bathroom is a glass box in the main bedroom, with the toilet placed not so strategically next to the glass facing the bed. That may be some people’s thing, but public-albeit frosted glass- toileting is not for us. I think if we’d spotted this when booking, we would have passed on the hotel. Another issue was that the bed was extremely firm, but that is personal preference so not a deal breaker. It was still comfortable. ||The food was really good. Very tasty and a wonderful setting. ||So there’s a lot of positives and one not so positive. We did end up stringing a towel across the glass to obscure the view, so it wasn’t the end of the world.

My husband and I loved our 3-night stay at the Hotel Rum! Intriguing building with central spiral staircase, spacious high-ceilinged room with equally spacious bathroom. Location is perfect to walk to most areas of the city, or 3-min walk to closest Metro station at Kalvin ter. There is a fine restaurant on first floor that we did not sample, but their rooftop bar is amazing, with fabulous views of the city and serves an excellent breakfast. Insider tip: they will loan you towels to take to the Thermal Baths. Would happily stay again!

We stayed for 3 nights in a large room which was very comfortable. |All staff spoke excellent English and were charming, helpful and knowledgeable . Breakfast is great and made even better by the wonderful views. |There are metro, tram and bus stops just a few minutes walk away . It takes less than 10 minutes to walk to the banks of the Danube at Liberty bridge. |The hotel is on a quiet street but just around the corner are busier places to see. Lots of food options near by.

If you choose this hotel, check the room configuration before booking. Some rooms have beds that are built into the wall and can be accessed from one side only. Some rooms have skylights instead of windows. In some rooms a hanging cabinet is in just the right place to hit your head and could cause serious injury. There is nowhere to sit other than on the bed. The bathrooms are very modern and clean. The view from the rooftop restaurant is stunning and the cuisine is quite good.

Hotel Rum Budapest is in a perfect location for touring Budapest with most attraction being approx 15 minutes walk. The rooms are lovely and clean and spacious, in particular the large rooms. Breakfast was included within our rate and this was located at the rooftop which had glorious views. Breakfast was options from an a la carte menu and was delicious! ||We gave 4 stars because while the hotel is in a prime location, the hotel itself doesn’t have much amenities, e.g gym, etc.

This hotel is on the Mr & Mrs Smith web site and should be of a good standard, however our experience was not good. Poor attitude from the outset from the young receptionist, one guest said someone was in their room when checked in no real empathy to resolve. Our room was dark, lots of black paint, low level lighting and multi plug cable hanging from the wall. Double bed had two single duvets strange way to set up a bed in our opinion. Small all black bathroom no hanging space.This hotel should be reviewed by Mr & Mrs Smith and BA Holidays as the web site does not represent the experience we had, so much so we checked out and went elsewhere after one night!

Poor hotel. Looks nice from the pictures but in reality is nothing special. We came when the weather was warm and the room was unbearable to sleep it, air-con may aswell not work. When we asked if we could have a fan we were met with a rude response from the receptionist who failed to get one for us and was not polite about it. Unfortunately, this was common at Hotel Rum, the staff were unfriendly, unaccommodating and plain rude - the opposite of all the lovely locals we met in Budapest. Room was uncomfortable, the bathroom is weird and the amenities non existent. That being said the hotel is in an ideal location - so maybe look at the hotels nearby !!!

Overall I liked the hotel but there were 1 or 2 things I felt could be improved. Our room Black Rum or a 'Large Plus' was their largest room. It was modern and suitably furnished, however, there were a couple of things I didn't like. Firstly, the tea/coffee making facilities were positioned under the small hanging rail. This meant it wasn't practical to hang your clothes there as a) they were very close to the kettle and b) you weren't able to use the kettle etc as the clothes hung on top of them. The space was not long enough for dresses only jackets, skirts & shirts, there was no wardrobe. I subsequently moved the kettle etc to the desk area. The bathroom was built within the bedroom area and was separated by a sliding door with obscure glass. It was noisy to open as it was on metal rollers so was quite loud at night when someone needed to use it while the other person slept. The hand basin was very small, like a cloakroom basin, so much so I couldn't lean over and use it comfortably without knocking my head against the shelf above, it just didn't work. The large bed was great but we were provided with 2 single duvets which as you can imagine was not really practical for a couple sleeping together. I asked them to change it and they did. Overall the room was good, large enough, a good shower, comfort but firm bed, quiet and reasonable facilities, as our breakfast was included in the price I felt it was good valve. The breakfast was excellent, the menu was slightly different from your usual choices but there had put a modern twist on same familiar dishes. The staff in SOLID were great, all the hot food was cooked to order. We also ate at SALT, which is a 1 Star Michelin restaurant located on the ground floor. This was excellent and it very worthy of its star, there was good interaction with the head chef and the kitchen team as well as 15+ courses. The hotel's position is good as it's in a quiet area but with a good choice of restaurants and amenities close by. One or two last gripes , on our booking we should have got a welcome drink but we didn't. I spoke to reception and they explained that as I had made the booking a while ago this was now not being offered. However, they had gave me a voucher to use at breakfast time for a glass of Prosecco. They have stopped using SOLID as a wine bar and only use it for breakfast and brunch so drinks aren't available out side of these times. When we arrived in our room there was a small glass 'preserving' jar with one cookie in it! I'm not sure why only 1 when there were 2 of us staying, I did mention it to someone at reception but wasn't offered any suggestions. Maybe it was me but I would have expected 2 cookies, so I wasn't sure if out was left over from before and as there was no welcome drink in the room, my first impressions were a little disappointing. I received lots of emails regarding my stay before and afterwards, which was very good.
