"The capital’s most iconic accommodation, Hotel Oloffson (from $100), is a destination in itself. Built in the 19th century as a presidential summer home, the hotel has welcomed dozens of celebrities, including Jacqueline Kennedy and Mick Jagger." - Miranda Smith

"I learn later that night, when talking to Richard Morse—the Haitian American proprietor of the famous Hotel Oloffson, leader of one of the country’s best bands (RAM), and a vodou priest himself—that clairin is the preferred drink of Haiti’s most celebrated vodou figures." - Tom Downey

Charming and friendly this beautiful Victorian Mansion The Grande Hotel was a jewell and felt like you were going back in time, possibly in a Bogart movie. I haven't been to this magnificent hotel in over 53 years, but it looks pretty much the same, although apparently they now have air-conditioning. When I stayed they didn't have enough electricity for the whole evening, so it would go out at about 7pm for a couple of hours, which was a great time to go downstairs and mingle with the other guests. At that time (before air-conditioning) they did not have glass windows, just shutters. I found myself sharing my shower with a local chameleon. Amazing and glorious hotel. The Haitian people are marvelous and friendly. I stayed for about 10 days and I don't believe that I had the same fresh Fruit for breakfast twice. Love this memorable hote.

Unique hotel. Staff was helpful. If you are expecting an upscale US style hotel, this may not be the place for you. But if you want a clean hotel at a reasonable cost and are looking for an atmosphere that fits with the Haitian surroundings, try this place. Live music on Thursday evenings as well.

The Hotel Oloffson exudes historic charm and an enchanting ambiance. The rooms are large and comfortable with warm showers. The staff is friendly and caring. The food is well prepared and reasonably priced, and it comes with a calming view of the trees that fill the courtyard. The furnishings are a bit stodgy and the parts of the grounds are in disrepair, but if you come with the right mindset you can experience one of Port au Prince’s grande dames. Note that the WiFi works well in the common areas but doesn’t need reach the rooms. And nothing beats their famous (and strong!) Rhum Punch, especially on a night that RAM is playing.

The atmosphere is unique with a bar and a terrace overlooking the bay. Its also not far from the downtown. (I walked to Champs des Mars in 15 minutes). ||My last night there I heard drums from the garden and went down to an open pavilion where a group of dancers were starting to rehearse. It was mesmerizing, they were so good, very African influenced dances mixed in with tango. It went on for maybe two hours and apart from some Haitians I was the only tourist. It was a privilege to experience and made me aware of the richness of the Haitian culture.

We stayed at the Oloffson based purely on the history of the place. It's a stately old property (classic "gingerbread house") that we enjoyed staying at for a couple of days mid-trip around Haiti. Our room was quiet (not in the main house) and very large. We had good hot water, a huge fan and aircon (though the electricity went out intermittently) and slept comfortably, despite the absence of proper curtains on the windows (just lace). Hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating (they let us leave our rental car and some luggage with them for 3 days while we visited Can Haitien) and were always very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was just some bread with jam/ peanut butter/ butter and coffee but there were a few other items you could purchase (fruit etc...). We didn't get the chance to enjoy a drink at the bar or eat in the restaurant but it was a lovely space. Don't miss the RAM concerts on Thuesdays (they were not playing the week we were there but we caught them at a different location on another night).

Nice views. Came here to visit for about an hour for lunch. Historic gingerbread house architecture. We sat on the porch and enjoyed the music, food and view of the water. Although right in the city of Port-au-Prince, it's was actually really relaxing sitting outside enjoying the breeze.

Cool atmosphere. Also had good wifi. Service may take some time so it's better if you're not in a hurry! Don't have high hopes for the food. In general, it is mediocre, the sandwiches can be especially deceiving. A shame for such a popular place.

It's very cosy & stylish. It's almost a museum from colonial times. It has nice photo opportunities. There's a pool. The reason that I gave less than 5 stars is just personnal, because decorations are heavily inspired on voodoo and as a Christian I cannot support that, but I guess most people will have no issue with that. Anyways, it's worth visiting, even just to drink something at the bar or to enjoy a concert.
