How to Explore Haiti and Get Your Hands on Clairin, Its Magical Rum - AFAR
"A storied, 19th-century former presidential summer home now operating as an iconic hotel (rooms from about $100) in the capital; it has hosted numerous celebrities, including Jacqueline Kennedy and Mick Jagger." - Miranda Smith
How Clairin, the Sugarcane Rum of Haiti, is Made - AFAR
"A famous Port-au-Prince hotel run by Richard Morse, a Haitian-American musician (leader of the band RAM) and a vodou priest; the place functions as a cultural hub where music, vodou practice, and clairin intersect, and where conversations about the spirit's role in ritual and national identity are common." - Tom Downey
The Ollsons has a great atmosphere and a really nice vibe. The place feels comfortable, the air conditioning works well (which is a big plus in Haiti), and the food is good. Overall, it was a pleasant and enjoyable stay.
The only downside is the low water pressure, which can be a bit inconvenient at times.

Cool atmosphere. Also had good wifi.
Service may take some time so it's better if you're not in a hurry!
Don't have high hopes for the food. In general, it is mediocre, the sandwiches can be especially deceiving. A shame for such a popular place.

Unique hotel. Staff was helpful. If you are expecting an upscale US style hotel, this may not be the place for you. But if you want a clean hotel at a reasonable cost and are looking for an atmosphere that fits with the Haitian surroundings, try this place. Live music on Thursday evenings as well.

Nice views. Came here to visit for about an hour for lunch. Historic gingerbread house architecture. We sat on the porch and enjoyed the music, food and view of the water. Although right in the city of Port-au-Prince, it's was actually really relaxing sitting outside enjoying the breeze.

It's very cosy & stylish. It's almost a museum from colonial times. It has nice photo opportunities. There's a pool. The reason that I gave less than 5 stars is just personnal, because decorations are heavily inspired on voodoo and as a Christian I cannot support that, but I guess most people will have no issue with that. Anyways, it's worth visiting, even just to drink something at the bar or to enjoy a concert.

I love my country and support my folks. However the stairs weren't safe, the room was dusty everywhere, the pool was dirty,I couldn't go in it. 2 big dogs running around and barking was annoying, however, the staff and the guard were amazing, but more investments and renovation is needed for that place to get 1 more star from me.

Charming and friendly this beautiful Victorian Mansion The Grande Hotel was a jewell and felt like you were going back in time, possibly in a Bogart movie. I haven't been to this magnificent hotel in over 53 years, but it looks pretty much the same, although apparently they now have air-conditioning. When I stayed they didn't have enough electricity for the whole evening, so it would go out at about 7pm for a couple of hours, which was a great time to go downstairs and mingle with the other guests. At that time (before air-conditioning) they did not have glass windows, just shutters. I found myself sharing my shower with a local chameleon. Amazing and glorious hotel. The Haitian people are marvelous and friendly. I stayed for about 10 days and I don't believe that I had the same fresh Fruit for breakfast twice. Love this memorable hote.

Restaurant and food was great! Service was also very good. My room was clean comfortable and air conditioned. The grounds are filled with wild art and sculptures. Definitely the place to go if you want an experience and not standard hotel fair.
