"When it opened in 1962, the Hotel Indonesia was a 14-story marvel of modernism that became the preferred address for visiting foreign dignitaries, movie companies, and journalists, even playing a prominent role in The Year of Living Dangerously. By the time it closed for renovations in 2004, H.I. (as it is familiarly known) was a run-down wreck in the shadow, literally and figuratively, of contemporary luxury hotels. Renovated—"reinvented" might be more apt—by the Kempinski chain, the hotel once again makes a strong bid to become the city’s top choice. Standard rooms are big (475 square feet) and are designed in a relaxed mix of traditional motifs and contemporary plushness. They come technologically equipped: Wi-Fi, a long-range cordless phone that rings at the pool or the coffee shop, and a toilet with more options than you want to read about. The excellent Signatures restaurant, presided over by life-size photos of Indonesia’s flamboyant first president, Sukarno, with Marilyn Monroe and JFK, is fitting in a city where extravagant hotel buffets are de rigueur. Guests also have signing privileges at eateries in the adjoining mega-luxe Grand Indonesia Mall."

I stayed for just one night over the weekend. The hotel was excellent and had direct access to Grand Indonesia. Upon arrival, I was immediately assisted by a bellboy (sorry, I forgot his name) who handled my luggage. During check-in, I was helped by Alama. The room is spacious but unfortunately we had the 3rd floor. Breakfast at the Signature Restaurant was comprehensive and delicious. It was a very enjoyable experience, and I'll definitely come back another time.

It’s so good you know to have a stay in Hotel Indonesia (HI) Kempinski. The room, so comfortable, and in the bathroom there’s a TV, so even when you’re on a bath, you’ll not miss your fav. TV show you know! Ooh! The swimming pool is very good you know, perfect for kids, since it’s has a designated pool for kids. But, it’s pretty noisy in the night. But it’s normal since it’s near one of the busiest road in Jakarta. Also this hotel was inaugurated by Ir. Soekarno (president of Indonesia at that time) in 1962, the first guest came to the hotel using becak, which is very unique. By the way it’s so memorable, that i want to have a stay again in HI Kempinski!

It’s always a great pleasure staying at the Kempinski Hotel whenever I’m in Jakarta. The location is unbeatable — directly connected to the mall — and the service consistently makes every stay memorable. Really enjoyed my stay here! The food was great, gym was well-equipped, and the swimming pool was clean and relaxing. The room was big, cozy, and very comfortable. ||Met a wonderful friendly helpful staff Mr Guntur. He is smart and helped us a lot on given info and assis us best way to airport. ||Overall, a great experience — highly recommended!

As an Indonesian, I always miss the warm and genuine hospitality from back home, and Kempinski truly delivers that feeling. The service is very attentive and welcoming, making the stay memorable. The signature restaurants are excellent — great flavors, beautiful presentation, and a wonderful dining atmosphere. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and designed to make you feel at ease, truly a place where you can relax. Overall, everything else was simply outstanding. I really enjoyed my stay and would gladly return.

had a truly wonderful stay at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta. From the very first day, Mr. Novie, the concierge, went above and beyond to assist me. As it was my first time in Indonesia, he kindly helped me book my train to Bandung and was always attentive and willing to help throughout my stay. His thoughtful and mindful personality made me feel very welcome, and even on my last day, he personally escorted me to the car and we shared a pleasant conversation from my arrival until departure.||I also greatly enjoyed the hotel’s facilities and service. The spa is absolutely amazing and relaxing, and I would like to compliment the lady at the spa reception as well — she was very friendly and made the experience even better.||Overall, I am very happy with my stay and truly appreciate the outstanding hospitality. Thank you to Mr. Novie and the whole team for making my visit memorable.
