Hotel Indigo Lower East Side New York, an IHG Hotel

Nice looking hotel and very convenient location. Staff are accommodating. However They need a better system managing their reservations. We checked in at 6am after a redeye flight. It makes absolutely no sense to say the room is not ready because it was sold out the night before when we RESERVED AND PAID for the previous night. Essentially we paid for 4 nights and only staying for 3. Maybe confirmed and paid reservation means something entirely different at this hotel. Do better.

OWNERS!! – please decide whether you are running a 4-star hotel or a night club. ||GUESTS!! - By all means avoid staying on 12th floor.||We booked this hotel through an agent for our 8 nights vacation in New York City. We chose this hotel due to its good central location on Manhattan and the small pool that we intended to use after a long day of walking in NYC. The hotel has a nice rooftop bar at 15th floor and a night club at 14th.||We arrived on a Monday and the first days we were quite satisfied with our room on 12th floor with a fine view of Lower East Side towards the Williamsburg bridge. A small room but nice and clean.||The problems started on Friday with loud music and noise from what we at first thought was the rooftop bar “Mr. Purple” on the 15th floor. This continued until 2 a.m. when there was finally silence. Things got worse on Saturday from around 10 p.m. onwards. People were literally dancing on our ceiling (as there is no 13th floor). The noise from the night club on 14th floor was so loud in our room on 12th floor that we felt we were inside the night club. This is what you may expect from a two star hotel in Bulgaria – but certainly not from a rather pricy 4 star hotel in New York.||After no chance of getting any sleep this night, we at 1 a.m. tried to call the reception but the phone was not picked up. We decided to get up and went to the reception to complain. The receptionist could tell us that the party in the club would continue until 4 a.m. – and that fortunately the night club party next day (Sunday) was expected to be only until 2 a.m. !!||Must disturbingly we got the impression that everybody at the hotel was very well aware that there was a noise problem after the night club was opened earlier in 2024 – nobody seemed to be surprised over our complaint. Management claimed that “Mr. Purple” is a different entity and they could not do nothing about the noise (except providing us with earplugs !). This is probably partially correct as Mr. Purple is run as a separate business – however the hotel owners IHG seem to be quite entangled in this – which makes sense if you decide to ruin the business of a 4 star hotel because of a night club. Business of the owners is clearly focused on running a bar and a night club for young people in NYC – and not on hotel guests. Most visitors to the rooftop bar are not staying at the hotel.||Next day we could be moved to another room – which happened after some annoying procedure where we had to pack all luggage and leave our room before we could get a key card for the new room – instead of just moving things directly to the new room.||Apart from the noise problems mentioned above there are other things to be mentioned:||The pool which was part of our reason for booking the hotel – we ended up never using. It turned out that it closed at 5 p.m. everyday which was usually before we were back at the hotel. During the weekend the closing time was already at 1 p.m. However, you can book it for 150 $ afterwards!||If you book this hotel, be aware of the high amenity taxes (we were aware of that during the booking so was not a surprise to us). If you book with breakfast – this consists of a 15$ voucher that you can use in the bar for coffee, a muffin and a croissant. ||Staff at the reception generally showed not much interest in guests and was somewhat rude. Not often have we stayed at a hotel where the staff did not greet us with a “Hi” when we passed through the reception - however both managers and the house keeping staff were quite friendly.||To be fair we were moved to another bigger room and got some compensation from the hotel. - however, this stay turned not out to be what we would expect from a 4 star hotel.||The good things:||The rooftop bar is nice and has a fantastic view of Manhattan. |The location on Lower East Side is great for walking to both uptown and downtown Manhattan and is also close to metro stations “Delancey St– Essex St“ (catch line J or Z from Jamaica station near JFK Airport) and “2 Av”|Lots of bars and restaurants in the area if you like to go out||If you are a younger couple who wants to go out you may enjoy staying at Hotel Indigo Lower East Side – seniors and families, stay away – or consider the other hotel right across the street. ||Will we come back? NYC – most likely… Hotel Indigo – never again!

Can be noisy at night from the hotel nightclub so ask for a quiet room. |Katz Deli is round the corner for breakfast.|Has a small roof top swimming pool.|Very busy at weekends, especially on the roof but the views are amazing.|Highly recommended.

What a joke of a hotel! Everything has been underwhelming from the start: staff isn’t remotely courteous right at check-in time. Breakfast is a complete joke: you get some coffee and barely warm “sandwiches” from a cart at 15F. The lady was visibly down with COVID and coughing all the time when handling food (fortunately she was wearing a mask): why wasn’t she put on sick leave? No sit down option. No eggs, nothing. Skip to today where I just checked the outside terrace (by the pool) as the door was opened. I left my glass (with my medicines) outside then a staff locked the door. When I asked to open the door again to retrieve my glass the staff (a man) just told me “this is closed” and I had to insist to retrieve my glass, much to his annoyance. The room: The rubber seal from my window was broken which meant I could hear anything happening outside: they never sent the promised technician and never offered switching rooms. The furniture is completely worn down. Cleanliness however is very good and the cleaning staff is top notch – kudos to them because they were the only good people I saw. The checkout: the clerk was visibly annoyed when I asked him to type my company details on the official receipt (guess what, that’s your JOB and it’s a legal requirement). No goodbye and nothing, we just have to get lost. If you want to be treated like dirt at this pseudo hip hotel, be my guest. Shame on IHG for condoning this. What kind of service is that? Why isn’t customer service a priority?

Not sure why this hotel doesn’t have more good reviews. Stayed 13 nights on a work trip and it was perfect. I emailed ahead to request a quiet room and it was secured super quickly, could not hear a thing. Rooms are large for nyc, modern, comfy and cleaned everyday without asking which isn’t always the case. Incredible location, all the staff were super smiley and went out of their way to be helpful and welcoming. Had a great stay, would definitely stay again x

First time staying here and had an overall good experience. Other reviews had made comments about hearing a lot of noise from the rooftop bar, Mr. Purple - located on the 15th floor, but we were on the 7th floor and didn't have much issue with noise. We could hear it a little at night, but earplugs did the trick with blocking it out. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The room itself was quite spacious and perfect for a weekend trip. There are multiple mirrors within the bathroom and outside the room which was nice. There were no other appliances besides the mini bar such as a regular mini fridge or a microwave. I would say the door to the bathroom was quite heavy and had to give it a bit of shove to open it. As well as there were no shelves in the shower so if you brought your own toiletries and didn't want to use the ones attached to the wall it was a bit of a struggle. ||When we arrived to our room we noticed we didn't have any shower towels, but we alerted the front desk and they quickly sent ones up to our room. We also felt the floor was a bit dirty considering this is a 4-star hotel. My sister noticed pieces of pink boa feathers on her feet and those were not ours. Since we were only staying for the weekend, we did not feel the need to address this with the front desk, but if we were staying for longer definitely would have addressed it. ||There is a card that is presented at check-in that lists amenities the hotel offers. However, it was very unclear if these were additional charges or if they are already included within the cost of the room because they are stated as credits, therefore we didn't take advantage of any of them during our stay. We could have inquired with the front desk, but were on a tight schedule so didn't have the opportunity on this visit. But I'm sure if you were to ask they would be able to explain it. I would say that the front desk was not the most welcoming I have ever seen, but I could chalk that up to this being a hotel in NYC.||Also, I was very comfortable with the security measures in place considering the rooftop bar is open to the public such as needing a key card to access any floor other than the bar. ||Overall I had a good experience and would stay here again.

This hotel really tries to offer a 4 star experience, but unfortunately, their lack of attention to detail prevents them from properly executing one. The rooms are in serious need of updating and do not match the pictures on their website. It’s very dingy. The staff seemed inconvenienced when I checked in. There were stains on the bed and our sheets had holes in them. The hotel fails to mention that there is a full nightclub at the top of the building that closes at 4 am. The club is so loud that one can hear the bass from the rooms and even from the lobby. Be aware that it will be very loud. The hotel does not seem to care that guests are unable to sleep in the rooms that they paid to sleep in. All of this and they have the audacity to charge an amenity fee. This is a good hotel for a younger crowd that appreciates a good party and emoji art in the lobby. It’s a good location but I would suggest staying elsewhere for a comfortable experience.
