Just stayed there only to start having bed bug bites. My son was badly bitten and I was mildly bitten. I wrote to the hotel yesterday but did not yet hear back. In retrospect, I realize two small brown dots on the bedding were bed bug marks, but I did not know it at the time. Also front desk times are very limited. Update to review: hotel is completely unresponsive to my and booking.com's inquiry into the bites.

The hotel had bed bugs. I received a few bites, and my son's body was covered in bites. Our travel companion had some as well. There were two small brown dots on my sheeting that I didn't think anything of but in restropect I realize were bed bug markings. We reached out to the hotel about it multiple times and they are unresponsive. After this experience, I looked back at reviews on various websites, and they had a bed bug issue last year as well. The correct thing to do is to exterminate the entire place and not permit guests for a few days, but this place seems to not care.

Fantastic little hotel in a lovely part of Amsterdam. Rooms were immaculate and clean with a lovely setup to the room. Beds were comfy with thick mattress toppers.
Great recommendations for local food and instructions to find the place were great.
Bag storage was no problem and we had friendly check in and out.

Our family of 6, ages 9-76, planned to stay here on our lay-over to Tanzania. The receptionist was so friendly and kind. She let us store our luggage and gave us a room to change our flight clothes. We came back at 3:00 to discover the room had been renovated and the chalking smell made staying there impossible. She had already booked us into another hotel and had a taxi ready to drive us there, at no extra cost to us. This was excellent service and we were so grateful, after a long day of sight seeing. |We highly recommend Hotel Dwars, for the exceptional service.

We went out of our way to book Hotel Dwars during this week long stay in Amsterdam after a great experience here a few years back. After this stay however, we will not return to the property!
The noise was extraordinary and came from another guest’s room - that guest brought a stereo speaker and used it, apparently to turn their room into a makeshift nightclub. Without a Dutch telephone number, and no
landline provided in neither the room nor in the small lobby at ground level, there was no way to reach any staff to address this noise pollution. What made matters worse was our taking time to write a professional email to the manager to express our concerns. She took 3 days to respond! That’s correct, 3 days! At this price point, this is totally unacceptable and we will not only not stay at this property again, we can no longer recommend it to others. Competent management involves engaging with your guests.
We found the staff, the manager excepted, to be friendly and sympathetic but it really was up to the manager to properly address this problem and she failed. Without question.
You’ll also note photos from the room of some large spiders that should have been removed before we arrived.
There are many other properties to choose when staying in Amsterdam and next time, we will exercise our preference to select another accommodation.

We loved our stay here. Fair price and very clean. Loved our room and how close it was to everything. My only complaint is that there are no elevators. So if you have kids and large luggage this one might be a little tough to get up the very narrow spiral staircase. Otherwise the location is very safe and we absolutely loved that it was next to one of the best restaurants we’ve ever been to.

We stayed at the Hotel Dwars for 6 nights.
- Extremely narrow staircase and no lift.
- The room was inadequately small for three people.
- The shower door leaked water into the bathroom.
- The desk was tiny and entirely filled with coffee making facilities
- The one chair was the completely wrong height so that you can't work at the desk anyway
- The staff are only present for part of the day. Messages on the online chat often go unanswered, especially at night and during the weekend. Phone calls are seldom answered.
- The internet was mostly unstable, especially at night. This made working in the evenings impossible.
- The staff claimed to have reset it several times but this failed to solve the problem. They also claimed that they could not do anything over the weekend.
- The internet outage lasted until the end of our stay and was never resolved.
- The lack of reliable wifi was sigificantly disruptive to our schedule and required us to spend lots of money to pay for our own internet
- The manager was apparently on holiday while we were there but has not responded to any emails since then.
All in all, a completely unacceptable level of service.

We enjoyed our stay here recently, it’s a lovely little hotel in a pretty neighborhood. It’s near a tram stop with quick access to everything Amsterdam has to offer. Lovely clean rooms & extremely comfortable beds & the staff were very accommodating.
