Hotel de la Opera

We found this jewel on a previous trip and upon returning we decided to stay. The hotel has a great feel and has a privileged location a couple of blocks from Old Bogota Center Square. Built using two houses from the colonial and republican era this hosted is full of charm. We stayed at the Eco wing, the other is the colonial wing and the view from our window was superb. The room was spacious, although a little short on closet space but that no issue. As for the staff, very friendly and always available without being intrusive. The current concierge is charming and always available to answer questions and provide information.One big detail that surprised us was when we asked Edwin where can we find an exchange place. He not only gave us the location but offered to have a staff member to escort us. When was the last time that happened to you? |The hotel has a very nice and breakfast is included. |The location of the hotel is privileged to explore the city and its charms. Recommendation always verify the times because not always what you find posted is what they abide with. Security is tight around the hotel due to the fact that the Chancillery is across the walkway, which is a huge plus.

Good sized updated rooms. We had 2 different rooms during our stay, the first the bed was very soft which isn't great for me. The second was much better.  The bathroom is also large.  The shower doesn't get hot, it got warm, but not warm enough for a comfortable shower for me.  Bathroom was also quite grimy . I understand mold grows, but it definitely was something that could be cleaned better.  ||The staff were all lovely and helpful.  Some have limited English, but Google translate can help. The breakfast buffet is nice to have.  Great fresh fruit options and they change up some of the food every day which is nice.  No air conditioning in the room and the sun was beaming in the room all day, so it was quite warm (26`C, thermostat for heat only).  The staff brought up a fan which helped significantly after we had opened the windows to allow the evening cool air in. We had a great view, but with the main square just a few blocks away it was insanely loud with the music from there in the evening, the room actually vibrated.  The windows did an ok job of sound proofing but we needed them open for a while to cool off the room first. Noise did stop around 9pm.  After that it was quiet.||Overall a pleasant stay in a great location.

Very well located hotel - art deco rooms are very spacious and mine had a lovely view over La Candelaria (Room 701). Spa area is relaxing and the treatments are good. ||Breakfast was average, the bar wasn’t open while I was there and the restaurant offer is limited (although there’s a lot of choice in the area).

Really lovely hotel. I had a great stay here. The staff was super helpful, the breakfast was very tasty, and everything was more than I could have asked for. There was hot water in the showers and free wifi! Comfortable bed and quiet. I did get there early so could not check into my room but they watched my bag until the room was ready. I saw some other comments about the staff not speaking English and I just disagree. We are guests in their country and if you can't take the time to learn some basic Spanish then at least know you can use Google translate to communicate with them. I do not think the onus should be on the staff; it is on us as guests to be good visitors. I know rudimentary Spanish and I think they appreciated my attempt to be understood. The hotel is really well located and would totally stay there again.

Perfect for my first encounter with the historic and cultural capital of Colombia. Ancient architecture, hospitable staff, smiles all around, unique surroundings, centered in la Candelaria, concierge queen, generous breakfast buffet, best hot chocolate and the list goes on.

We loved our stay at Hotel de la Opera. The room had great high ceilings. The staff were very friendly, especially the bell boy. It felt very safe and we could walk everywhere. The omelettes at breakfast were delicious and there was a great selection in the buffet. Thank you!

We stayed at this hotel for four nights as part of an OAT tour. Our 7th floor room in the newer "Art Deco" building had wonderful views of the government buildings surrounding Plaza de Bolivar. The room lacked air conditioning so we were glad to have windows that opened. The street outside our building, while fairly lively and noisy on weekend nights, was quiet during week nights. The hotel offered an expansive and delicious buffet breakfast, including made-to-order omelets and coffee drinks. The hotel's location is excellent - within a few minutes' walk of several excellent restaurants, museums including the Botero Museum, Bolivar Plaza, bakeries, coffee shops, a well-equipped Exito grocery store with ATM machines, and souvenir shops. The hotel is also next door to the beautiful Teatro Colon Bogota, which was closed for refurbishing during our stay. We did not utilize the spa or restaurant so I cannot comment on those facilities. We would definitely chose this hotel if we returned to the La Candelaria district of Bogota.

Lovely local hotel in a fabulous location. So much in walking distance. The Botero Museum is around the corner. The Gold Museum and the National Museum are in walking distance. Lots of nice restaurants in the area. We had an inside room and it was so quiet. Breakfast was great. Nice helpful staff.
