My friends and I stayed at Hotel Adagio for a one-night stay in downtown SF for a bachelorette getaway.
Location: Not necessarily the best, but not the worst. Most parts of SF can be dangerous, but this part is certainly a little more historic. We didn't feel it was dangerous walking around during the day, and we picked this spot because it was nearby several restaurants we wanted to go to. Beware all the crazy hills if you plan to walk around, especially north! J
Parking: Probably the biggest hassle for sure of this hotel. They charge $60 for parking via valet. Luckily, the valet was nice enough to recommend the alternate option of a parking garage (ACE Parking) a half-block away, which was $40 for overnight stay. Though expensive parking in downtown SF is expected, the hotel itself overcharges for their own parking, so I definitely recommend going with the nearby parking garage if possible. They were nice enough to let us park right in front of the hotel to unload the car despite us not using their valet.
Service: At first, when I told them we were in a group party and asked them to put our rooms together, the man at the front desk told me that wasn't possible. I pressed repeatedly, telling him that I tried to call ahead to arrange it, but the people on the phone told me to wait until I checked in because they could not do anything. After that, the front desk man did suddenly find two rooms next to each other after he said there weren't any. Clearly, there were, but I'm just happy that it worked out so we could be next door (no connecting door between the rooms unfortunately). They put us on a low floor, but initially were going to have us on the 2nd and 15th floors, which would have been a terrible chore. Ideally I think should work their systems to give group ordered rooms to at least be on the same or nearby floors, as I booked both simultaneously. We did not get or order any other services from the front desk or room service.
Common area/lobby: The lobby is a lot smaller in real life than it appeared in photos. I was anticipating a much larger hotel than it actually is. It's very small and boutiquey. The lobby is clean and pretty, with a modern elegance where geometrical patterns meets a bit of a classical flare. It certainly fit the mold of a "four star" experience, through and through. The lobby also has a small sitting area behind the front desk portion, which would have been lovely to sit in by the fireplace. The best part was the complimentary, 24-hour hot coffee, decaf, and tea bar in this section, which we used on several occasions. I haven't seen a hotel offer 24-hour fresh coffee in a nice seating spot. There is also a bar in the lobby, but it was closed, it seemed, likely due to COVID. The halls to the rooms are very narrow, and the floor only houses a few rooms.
Rooms: Probably the best part of this hotel and the selling point for us was the square footage of the rooms themselves. We got 2-queen bed rooms next to each other. Both were identical except oppositely laid out, and both were advertised at lamost 400 sq ft, which they lived up to. For our group, it was definitely a luxury and necessity to have that much room, and I've not seen many hotels (especially downtown, small hotels) that have this much space in the bedroom area. Definitely a big perk! We were placed low on the second floor, so had no view. No robes in the closet. Basic coffeemaker.
Internet: We did not try to use their internet during our short stay, so can't comment.
Beds/pillows: Comfortable and soft, no issues.
Bathroom/fixtures: Bathrooms were spacious enough, modern, and bright. Even, warm lighting around the sink for makeup. Also had an extra, full-length mirror in both rooms. Shower pressure was fine, but not a rainfall shower head or anything in particular to note. Everything was gleaming and clean in the warm lighting.
Amenities: We did not have time during our 1-night stay to inspect any of the amenities, but the small gym was located right next door to our rooms on the 2nd floor, along with the business center. Both seemed minimally stocked. No weight machines that I could see in the fitness center, mostly just treadmills. Definitely a very small and limited facility.
Best perk: For us, the coffee bar! Even at 2am when we came in after a night out, we were excited to get to have hot coffee ready.
Fees: No extra or sneaky charges on my bill. Check out as quick and easy.
