This is a great spot. We got a great deal through a combo of our mariott membership and AAA membership. It's absolutely worth it to use whatever kind of benefit that you can apply, as it makes a considerable difference. We picked the Adaggio bc it was the cheapest option available of the Mariott properties within SF proper. We were worried it was going to be shitty but we're happily surprised. The room was clean, comfortable, well decorated, and spacious. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the common areas and dining areas are welcoming and sparkling clean as well. There's valet parking or a separate garage directly next door, each is $60, which is a great price for a SF Mariott Hotel.
The Adaggio inspired me to compare it to the other SF Mariott property that I lived in for the month of September. I recently had to spend a month at the Ritz-Carlton bc of work. While the main floor is very beautiful, the upper floors are indistinguishable from most other Mariott properties. It cost a ridiculous amount for us to be put up there, and the only standouts to me were the hotel gym, the staff/customer service, and the Diptych brand bath products.
Fast forward to right now. I wanted to go to an event back home in SF, and so I decided to book a room for the night. My wife and I looked through our options in the Mariott Bonvoy app, and found the best deal (after applying a AAA discount) was at the Hotel Adaggio. $198 for a king bed room.
In many ways, the Adaggio is virtually indistinguishable from the Ritz. Same in room carpet, same great customer service (but less people on hand, so less individual attention, but very good service nonetheless), same good quality in the dining offerings/menu, better deals on rooms and parking, same general neighborhood(Nob Hill bordering Union Square). While both of these properties are very old buildings, the Adaggio has been updated quite recently, I believe I read within the last 2 yrs, and it shows. The Ritz is a bit down at the heals, and desperately needs some extensive updating.
So my point is, why pay $400+ per night for the Ritz when you could pay less than half that for a truly comparable experience at The Hotel Adaggio? The rooms and bathrooms are spacious, the bedlinens appear to be the same, the Ritz has better robes and free slippers, but does that really matter? The Adaggio has an office/business center for guest use, unlike the Ritz, which has nothing but concierge willing to print stuff out for you, not exactly convenient, both are in very walkable areas of SF.
I guess this looks like I have an axe to grind w the Ritz, but it's not that. Instead, I'm just so pleasantly surprised by the Adaggio that it seems worth it to point out what a great deal it is compared to the most famous name of the Mariott hotels. Unless your work is covering it, why shell out extra for the Ritz name when the Adaggio will give you almost the same experience for a fraction of the price?
