Hostel Celica

Definitively one of the best Hostels I ever stayed in. I especially liked the two coffee places to hang out on the ground floor and also the chillout place on the second floor. Lots of plants also! However, the kitchen was quite small but I was there in the off-season so no problem there.

Definitely the best place I stayed in Slovenia. I wish I had more time to spend here. The staff were always friendly, helping book an airport shuttle and getting me a breakfast bag packed on my last day. The breakfast buffet offered each day was incredible! With such a variety of hot and cold foods offered, there was something for everyone: eggs, toast, cereal, coffee, tea, meat, cheese, veggies, fruit. The 10-person room (barely) had enough room for everyone, with the keycard and locker system working smoothly. The beds were comfy, and the outlets were conveniently located. The number of toilets and showers provided just enough capacity for everyone, and the kitchens and common spaces on each floor were very nice, very clean, and very cozy areas. This hostel is truly incredible and is beyond deserving of its one-of-a-kind reputation. This would be the first place I would recommend staying to anyone traveling to Ljubljana!

Hostel Celica was a very nice place to stay in Ljubljana. The staff were incredible, and the free breakfast was so good! The beds were comfortable, and the rooms were quiet. The hostel is very eco-friendly, with cute little signs all over the hostel reminding guests to be eco-conscious. What that could have been better would be to have bath mats for the shower, as the water went everywhere... The hostel is a 15 minute walk into town, but a stones throw from the bus and train station. Besides a bit of water to clean up, I really enjoyed my stay at Hostel Celica.

Lovely hostel super close to the train and bus station. Super helpful staff. The rooms are clean & simple with lockers + free towels. Unfortunately the kitchen is very small but its nice that you can get breakfast at the hostel.

Amazing reconstruction of the old prison! Beautifully designed as well, and the breakfast is excellent - self-service, good machine coffee, high quality bread, homemade müsli and scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, too. Do mind your head if you're on the top floor under the eaves, the only downside to a comfortable bed. The kitchen is also mini - bring all condiments. Otherwise, pots and pans, plus a small fridge, are prepared for guests.

I have visited Slovenia twice, but never Ljubljana, and on a recent trip to Croatia I decided to put that right.||This Hostel seems to come up a lot in the guide books and on travel blogs, as its "charm" is that it is a former prison.||I thought "why not?" and booked a stay here for my one night in the city.||Located not far from the train station, it is just on the edge of the old town (you are probably a 25-30 minute walk from Prešeren Square, but its a easy walk to do.||The building and rooms are clean enough, and the staff are ok, but as per other review, they go at their pace, not anyone else, so can get annoying when the staff will take longer than it should to look away from the computer screen or up from their phone when standing at the reception waiting to check in or to ask about a shuttle service to the airport.||I had booked a private single room, and it actually did have a good feel to it.||Toilet and shower facilities were spotless, so on the whole was a very enjoyable stay.||My one gripe though was at 2am in the morning, for a full hour there was someone outside the building screaming at the top of their voice (almost like they were in pain or something), and nobody was going to check on them to see what the matter was.||If back in the city again, it does feel like I have been there and done it with this hostel, but if lack of options I would consider staying here again.

The whole jail novelty wears off within one day; the stay was mediocre to say the least. I have no idea what the other reviews are talking about. The breakfast was nothing special, not unlike other hostel breakfasts I’ve had previously. The bathrooms somehow always smelled like urine and floors were only dry when the staff got around to cleaning it the one time a day. The room was enough for three beds but not for three people, it was very cramped and I’d certainly never pay to be in jail ever again. I had to climb over the other person to get to the door. At night you can expect to have a hard time falling asleep as there is loud music with drums blaring through the windows even when they’re closed. This noise pollution usually lasts until 1am. I was told laundry is €9 per wash per dry which is outrageous, I ended up piling my dirty laundry to clean elsewhere. The bar and kitchen staff by contrast were very pleasant but unfortunately this wasn’t enough for redemption. This was not a value for money in any way imaginable.

I had a great experience at Celica hostel. The design of the hostel is beautiful, staff is really nice and helpful, breakfast is included with a large choice of spreads, fruits, bread. The breakfast was good but juices were missing. I slept at the dorm for 12 people and the fact that there aren’t a bunk beds is really a plus. Because no one disturbs you. The beds were great I slept like a baby :) and there is two bathrooms in the dorms which is nice the only thing that was missing was soap in the bathroom and a rug. Water was everywhere. The hostel has also a great location not far from the bus station. Thanks for everything!
