Historic Core

This is my overall review of DTLA. Lots of mixed feelings going on. Let me start off by saying when I go to California of course I travel to the beach. After all these years this was actually my first time visiting the Core. We stayed mostly in the financial district. Skid row is a joy (scarcasm). It's so sad to see the homeless everywhere and I always clutch my purse with nervous knots. The jewelry district is overload and all looks the same after a while. Little Toyko is not too far and has good spots. Everything is walk-able. You can stand in lines all night if you want to party on the rooftop at Perch or the Standard. Besides that I found the food and surrounding restaurant row is a joke. For LA I expect so much better. The prices are crap and the food is worse. wamp wamp. Granted, there are so many options and I wish I checked out the new Korean fusion place just past Pershing Square. But except for a few good bistros the food was a major letdown. 'Tis true. But here is the happy news. There is so much more culture here than you realize. By the 1920s this place was hoppin with financial buildings, hotels, flagship shopping stores and that makes it today an architectural dream. The have some truly magnificent exteriors and interiors at every crossing. Try to look up. Literally. At all the ornate. They have good signage on a couple corners highlighting the famous cinemas and celebrity visits throughout the century. Somebody say mafia and mobster history? Check out the Bradbury building to start. I'm mightily impressed.
