A vibrant beachside dive since '69, this shack serves up tasty burgers, fresh brunch, and cold beers, all amidst lively tunes and a friendly vibe.
"This iconic burger shack just steps from the Venice Beach pier has been slinging casual fare and brews since 1962. A favorite of both rock legends and locals, there is little argument that this is one of Los Angeles’s most beloved dives; it also serves a hefty, eggy burrito in the morning for hungry surfers and locals who need a substantial weekday breakfast. If you come on the right night, you might even catch a live band." - Matthew Kang, Nicole Adlman
"Burgers are griddled right behind the bar at the legendary Venice dive Hinano Cafe. Open since 1962, this beachside watering hole still has the same sawdust-covered floor charm after all these years. Order a cheeseburger with a choice of cheddar or Swiss, and chips on the side." - Rebecca Roland, Eater Staff
"Hinano Cafe is a staple beachside dive bar, the kind of sandy spot that visitors and locals love equally. From the simple burgers and hot dogs griddled behind the bar to the friendly staff and proximity to both sun and surf, Hinano is pure Los Angeles. On weekends, it can be a scene, so prepare accordingly; keep in mind that it’s cash only." - Eater Staff
"There is no shortage of dive-y beach bars along the Santa Monica/Venice coast. Hinano is simply our favorite. Located on an aggressively touristy stretch of Washington Blvd. in Venice, Hinano is one of the few bars in the area that locals actually still go to. The beer is cheap, there’s sawdust on the floor, and there’s a burger on the menu that we’d travel long distances for. Once your buzz is good and strong, the beach is only a half block away for you to frolic in." - brant cox
"More burgers for you to eat in Venice. This time at Hinano, a super casual, sawdust-on-the-floor, pool-cue-in-your-ribs beach dive that’s been a local dive since the ’60s (back when those locals included Jim Morrison). Their burgers are super traditional, grilled right behind the bar, and come in a basket with a bag of chips on the side. Needless to say they’re best enjoyed with a cold beverage (or many) of your choosing. The chili is also good, and they serve breakfast starting at 8am if you’re looking to start your day the Lizard King way." - brant cox, sylvio martins, nikko duren
