Came by Himalayan Cuisine for lunch! Three of us shared a pakora app, which was quite good. They have an amazing lunch special for $14.95. I had double chicken tikka masala and flavors were great. A lot of food for lunch. Lots of seating inside. Staff was friendly. Lots of parking in the plaza. I'll be back for sure in the future!

Himalayan Cuisine La Mesa, California Occasionally, we love to go out and dine at one of our favorite restaurants. We love to eat different types of foods. One type is Himalayan and Indian Food. We always have a great experience here, and the service is always great. The staff are friendly and informative, and the food comes put quickly. The restaurant itself is large with plenty of seating and is beautifully decorated. The food this evening and we decided to try different things we had never tried. We will say that our table looked a feast for four people. Lol. This evening, we tried Appetizers - Vegetables Samosas( Deep fried pastries stuffed with spices potatoes & green peas Served with tamarind chutney.) - Papad ( Baked crispy thin lentil wafers. Served with mint chutney.) Main Course - Butter Chicken Boneless dark meat chicken cooked in a creamy and buttery sauce, with Himalayan herbs & spices. - Vegetable Biryani Mixed veggies, homemade fried cheese, tofu cooked in Himalayan herbs, cashew nuts, and spices mixed with Basmati rice. Served with our yogurt and cucumber sauce. (Raita) - Vegetable Tandoori Broccoli, potatoes, onions, cauliflowers, tomatoes, homemade fried cheese, and zucchini, marinated in sour cream and Himalayan herbs & spices, then baked to perfection in the Tandoor oven and served sizzling with sautéed cabbages, carrots, and bell peppers. - Garlic Naan Dessert - Kheer Rice pudding Everything was delicious and cooked perfectly. Overall, this was a great experience again, and we look forward to dining with them.

We have been wanting to go to this place for a while. My son, his girlfriend, and I had a great time. All the food was delicious, and the servings were more significant than expected. We brought a lot of food home with us to eat later. They will ask you between 1 and 10 how spicy you want your meal (with one being very low and ten being very high). I picked five and will pick four the next time we go. The service was also friendly and quick.

Best lamb and eggplant dish ever. The chicken masala super as was the chicken curry.this is a well kept secret in our neighborhood. We also had the lentil soup it was just perfect., it was a good balance to the spice level of our dishes. Love the garlic naan bread.

Decided to try a new place and regretted it. The food looked fine but lacked flavor which I didn’t think was possible for Indian food. My partner and I were surprised that the 4 items we tried, they all looked like they should taste great but only the chicken tikka masala was good. The other dishes didn’t ask for spice level which was a first. They were not good. However, for someone that can’t handle spicy food, maybe this would be a good place to try.

The lentil soup was great to start of ( which is a free soup you get ). Cheese Naan is great specifically for a toddler. Momos wouldn’t recommend as it was not good. Goat curry was amazing, authentic and simple delicious. Servers were really helpful and nice to talk too.

Amazing food. A must try! Very cozy atmosphere, cozy bench seats for two. Great food selection, priced decently. If you are seated on the left side of the restaurant,the kitchen is very loud. The service was phenomenal, very friendly and attentive staff.

Ordered off delivery as we were craving Indian food one dinner. What we got: Butter chicken - creamy, rich, with the right amount of chicken. Garlic and cheese naan - on the softer side but chewy and delicious! It came in four pieces. Chicken biryani - unfortunately we didn't like it. It was just too salty that I don't know if that's the purpose of the yogurt sauce. The medium was also too hot for us. Serving was plenty, price point reasonable for two people (everything came to under $50) however, not the best Indian food we've tried despite the many good reviews.

Great quality, great quantity, great value. I am a regular at this restaurant, and my frequent business here is for very good reason. This Indian restaurant provides large filling portions with flavorful and tasty food all in a cozy and warm atmosphere. Normally I come here for dinner, but this recent visit I came around lunch time and was excited to see that they have an awesome "Lunch Special" which we decided to check out along with some other items we regularly order when we visit. Lunch Special: 2 Items (Chicken Vindaloo, Chicken Tikka Masala), Chickpea Salad, Kheer (rice pudding), Naan, and a large portion of rice. Chicken Vindaloo: Savory, meaty, thick. The chicken in this dish is smokey and a bit tender but on the dryer side. The sauce is also more chunky and viscous as compared to a masala which would have a creamier and runnier sauce. I chose this one as it was one of the three protein options for the special. Although it isn't my absolute favorite, I enjoyed it very much for the variety that it brought to my plate. Chicken Tikka Masala: Bright, savory, tomato-y, creamy. This is the classic chicken tikka masala dish that everyone knows Indian cuisine to make so amazingly. I order this occasionally when I come here and I'm glad that it is a part of the lunch special. If you are unsure what to order, this one will not disappoint at all. Admittedly, in my most recent visit the Tikka Masala was a bit more on the tomayto-y side but nothing beyond slight to where it is disruptive to enjoying the dish. Chickpea Salad: Refreshing, bright, airy. The salad is very simple and straight forward. It is light, refreshing, airy, and aromatic. There is a combination of few textures. The onions and veggies were crunchy and crispy while the chickpea was a bit more grainy. I absolutely loved the salad as it was a beautiful contrast to the warmer and more savory flavors of the rest of our meal. Kheer: Cool, refreshing, not too sweet. This is the first time I've ever had rice pudding and it was such a pleasure to try. Similar to the chickpea salad, I thought it brought a nice refreshing break from the heavier savory tastes that is more common with the heavy dishes they serve at this restaurant. I should've saved it as dessert for the end but it tasted so good I couldn't resist taking sips throughout my meal. Lamb Vindaloo: Roasted, gamey, tender, juicy. The Lamb Vindaloo was saucy and savory. It was mild in spiciness and the aroma was filled with spices and herbs. The lamb meat was also extremely juicy and tender and it reminded me of a medium-rare New York Strip steak in the best way possible. The lamb meat tasted gamey in a way that was enjoyable but that also requires the context of my personal preference in game-y meats. I order this dish every so often when I come to this location and have never been disappointed. Overall a great dish to order if you enjoy game-y meats. Otherwise try the chicken vindaloo! Lamb Biryani: Warm, filling, aromatic, colorful. My girlfriend and I order this dish EVERY single time we come here. The biryani is so tasty and aromatic and it has the scents of every spice you would ever want. The lamb in this dish is also very tender and tasty. If you order any of the regular entrees that come with a choice of rice or naan, I would highly recommend you choose naan if you're also ordering any of their biryanis. The portion of rice they provide with this dish is deceptively large and I fall for it time after time. Mango Lassi: Not too sweet, silky. I can't believe that this is my first time ordering Mango Lassi at this location because it is one of my favorite beverages of all time. The drink is silky smooth and is sweet enough to satisfy your sweet tooth but not so sweet where you feel gross and regretful of ordering it. If you've never had this drink I URGE you to order it and try it out! Service is great as always. We are always greeted at the door by staff and shown to our table within a minute whether it is during lunch or dinner. The staff is attentive to needs and checks in autonomously to refill water and provide any other help needed.

11/18/2024 - I was in the area and ordered a Tiki Masala to go and it came with white rice. I ordered at 2:45pm and they told me about 15 minutes. I walked in and it was ready in 10 minutes. It smells so good in there. Giant place to go to with plenty of seats. Total cost was about $20. Loved it. Wished the portion was a little bigger. 2 meals for me and it came with a lentil soup. 5 stars.

This meal was delicious! I enjoyed everything I ordered. I definitely recommend trying the chicken chili if you're interested in trying something different. The flavors were amazing and the chicken was very tender. Their chicken tika was very good as well. You can't go wrong with either. My wife and I had great service. Everyone working was nice and helpful. Highly recommended!

One of my favorite places for Indian food in SD. The main dishes come with either jasmine rice or butter naan. I ordered the chicken korma and chili chicken. The chicken was not dry and had great flavors. Level 3 did not have much heat at all. Will have to try level 5 or higher next time. Friendly and fast service. There are lots of tables available for dine in.

TL;DR: authentic Nepalese/Himalayan/Indian cuisine and great service Ordered: - Chicken Tikka Masala (5/5): Must get. - Saag Paneer (4/5): Would've liked the paneer to be more flavorful but overall still delicious - Lamb Biryani (3/5): Good but not a lot of lamb meat. Would've preferred just getting more pieces of naan - Butter/Garlic Naan (5/5): must gets. The naan is so pillowy and soft yet packs a huge punch in flavor So much food for 2 - some of the best leftovers I've had in awhile Won't be getting the Biryani next time but we will absolutely be back to try the rest of the menu! Our go to restaurant for Indian food! We love the chicken, tiki masala, and the Saleg paneer For appetizers, the vegetarian samosas are terrific. They offer a cilantro and a tamarind dipping sauce. The potatoes and peas are comforting in the crusty Samosa. We are wimps and order heat level number three. The cilantro, garlic, naan, and the cheese garlic naan are wonderful! We also love the chicken biryani.... If you order enough, they give you a complimentary pea soup. Be sure to order a mango lassi or ice cream to cool off your mouth afterwards!

Food was alright, not great. Ordered saag paneer-it was good but not the best that I have ever had. The rice was a nice touch. The chicken momos were HORRIBLE. They were either really overcooked or it was saved from the night before. The momo's outside was hard and rubbery and not chewable. They ended up taking it off the bill but this was after multiple stares from the staff. Sorry, but you can clearly see that it was overcooked or just reheated. It's almost like when you buy a bag of frozen dumplings and you heat it up in the microwave but it dries out the dumpling. The vegetable samosas were good and piping hot.

Absolutely love this place came in during the week for dinner with a friend and their chicken tikka is amazing, they bring complementary lentil soup to the table. My friend ordered chili chicken and it was delicious. I have also ordered the Tandoori mixed and it was a huge amount of food. They also have an Indian market next door which I love to grab spices and teas. I come to this place often and I can not recommend enough. Servers constantly check on you and the ambiance is moody.

I've been here about a dozen times since before the pandemic and everything is delicious! The restaurant is huge and busiest for the dinner service but never busy enough to wait more than a few minutes for a seat. Their takeout quality is also just as good as the seated experience. My favorite dishes are the paneer saag, chicken tandoori, lamb tikka masala, and lamb biryani. This place is great for groups or date nights and can accommodate kids. The service is always very good and the servers are nice. I highly recommend it!

Himalayan Cuisine is a restaurant highly recommended by acquaintances and I had dined here multiple times including food delivery. Almost every dish I ordered tasted off, NOT fresh and was either too sweet, too salty or had zero taste ie Bland and Flavorless. Their Saag paneer was not authentic tasting, a disappointment and a disaster. I've had amazing Himalayan food from Tara's in Los Angeles, and the food I've had here is not comparable this at all :( Good presentation was always careless and sloppy plated. Service by the staff was slow, unprofessional and lacking. Why this restaurant received so many high rating reviews is a mystery because I stronger disagree. The interior dining room had lovely chandelier lighting and the walls decorated with a menagerie of Himalayan baskets, assortment of ethnic art. Most people who haven't had much exposure to true Himalayan cuisine sadly don't know any better. This restaurant has the opportunity to improve many dishes, food preparation, presentation and staff service. Have given this restaurant the benefit of doubt but they repeated failed in every area. My generous 2 star is for some of the staff who were nice to Me and my service baby.

First visit to Himalayan Cuisine, we stopped by on a Tuesday around 3pm - Our waitress greeted us warmly at the entrance and we were promptly seated. The restaurant is bigger than I expected from the pictures, there were about 4 other tables being served alongside from what I could tell. She kindly took our orders and we were served our complimentary lentil soup right away. Our food arrived within the next 15 mins. I opted for a Mango Lassi, it was smooth and not too sweet, the Chicken Tikka Tandoori was juicy and flavorful as well. The Garlic + Cilantro Naan was a must, delicious! Also tried Gulab Jamun for the first time, and these were definitely sweet but I was expecting that, yummy as well! We'll be coming back!

First time trying this place as we noticed it was open on Christmas! The place was very busy but the workers were quick to help everyone. We were picking up and order and were helped promptly and with no issue! We ordered saag paneer, butter chicken, and garlic naan, everything was amazing!! I definitely understand why it was so packed! Can't wait to go back for the dine in experience, saw so many other yummy things on the menu!!

Whenever I want curry I go to the Himalayan place to meet my fix. The ambience is nice and reminiscent of Nepal with the pictures that are displayed along with certain furniture pieces. The service is quick and the waitstaff is always nice and pleasant and will answer any questions you may have.

We had a family of 4 to feed for the night so we ordered 5 entrees and a few sides - yup more than enough feed! Mom and I had Chicken Tikka Masala. Sauce was good, chicken was a little dry but overall good. The Mango Chicken Tikka Masala was amazing. Tender chicken and great flavor. Would definitely recommend it. Vegetible samosa was good. Naan made a nice compliment - we did each garlic and cheese. The other entrees I didn't get to try but did well with the family. One had shrimp and I had some of it the next day. Not bad. Leftovers were still tasty. Everyone was happy with the meal and at the end of the day, that's what counts! In fact, now I'm curious about the store next to the restaurant to see what spices I can get to try cooking some thing on my own!

I have been in search of a great, not just good, Indian food after my most recent visit to London. While I haven't been able to find anything close to the food from London, I'm finding enough to satisfy my cravings! Himalayan Cuisine came with high recommendations and I did really enjoy the meal! I ordered butter chicken and the cheese naan. The portion size was significant. The curry came with a side and I chose basmati rice. My husband and I were able to share a serving. We ordered a spice level 4 and I thought it was perfect. I wouldn't have gone any higher. Spice is objective but I'd say that a 4 is a solid medium. It's clear that they are a very popular take out spot. You can order online for pick up!

When it's midweek and you are craving for high flavour and are too lazy too cook, Indian food is a good idea. This is my first time ordering takeaway from Himalayan Cuisine and I am glad I did. On the table were Chicken Korma, Chicken Biryani and Saag Paneer, all in Spice Level 1 as digestion has not allowed for too much excitement as of late. That said, all of the food still had their base level spices and delivered. I shared the meal with a friend and she said that it tasted better than the Indian food she's had in the Mira Mesa area (win!). The biryani holds up on it's on and the yoghurt it came with was delicious. And I love paneer so the saag was great. Korma was new to me and it was a bit more "bland" compared to the other two, but still good. The saag and korma came with carb sides so I picked naan and basmati. Also, the order came with a container of daal which was comforting. My friend also ordered mango lassi -also delicious and refreshing for yesterday's warm day. We barely made a dent on the order and still had a good amount of leftovers. The restaurant looked good but was empty as it was after the lunch rush but it smelled so good in there while I waited for my food. It was a busy afternoon for takeway orders. Also a boon is there is a grocery store next door with Muslim Indian goods, and tons of parking on the lot. Will definitely come back! 10/10

This place has been constantly good over the years. They also give large portions. One of my favorite places for takeout.

Love this place, happy to drive 20 mins. The portions and pricing is great! Excellent dishes, the bowls look deceptively small, but it is plenty of food. Yum! Nice ambiance and good service.

Great Value for Indian Food. First time trying Himalayan Cuisine, with the amount of food they provided, it saved me from cooking for three days (2 pep)! Also comes with Naan, lentil soup which I don't have a picture of. The chicken Momo is good, soft steamed dumplings good for kids or elders, the thing I liked most is the curry? sauce. It's flavorful I probably dipped everything I ate in it. Lamb Biryani is OK, my suggestion is the lamb chunks could be a bit smaller, you might not see it in the picture, but it's literally size of a baby fist, needs to be cut before eating. My guess is the lamb is tandoori style, was a bit dry but flavorful for sure. The Tandoori is a must try, smoky and tender, especially for Keto diet eaters, the yogurt sauce that comes with it also delicious. We called in to order for take out and it's ready in 30 mins, good service, I would recommand it to anyone craving himalayan foods!

Place is tucked in the heart of La Mesa and its incredible Indian food that delivers. I have the chicken curry with rice and the Papad as an appetizer. Needless to say the flavor and the spices are blended extremely well! Service was great too!

Phenomenal. Divine. Good good food, good good service. Service didn't feel fake like it sometimes can in the US, but felt more genuine and natural. Restaurant itself is huge and has got lovely decoration. We got complementary soup too! Such a nice touch. Servings are plenty and DELICIOUS!!!!! Definitely will be coming back to La Mesa just for this fine place.

Deeeeeeelicious!!!! We tried it because it was close to home. The quality is so good especially for the price. Tikka masala was a must and same with the saag paneer. We would probably skip the lamb briyani because the other 2 items are way better and we have our eyes on the butter chicken next . We ordered to-go for this trip and the food held up really well. Still just as bomb 2 days later for lunch. It was very fast pickup and the seating area was cute too if we wanted to eat in. Next time!

The portions here are gigantic. I had the chicken tikka masala and it was very tasty. I do wish the rice was flavored in some way but the white rice was still good. My partner had the chicken tandoori and felt that it was a bit dry. We shared samosas and the garlic cheese bread which I thought were both delicious. The servers were very nice and attentive. I also really enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant, it felt very homey.

This is the first time we try this restaurant and it is bomb! This is one of the new good restaurants we tried in a while. Customer services is good. The server explained good since I didn't know what to choose between couple options. Each of the portion is good. We got Samoa for appetizer and it's big. Two of them can fill you up. I love that they bring out free soup. I would come back and try different food on the menu. I love the mango drink they have.

2.5 stars... Promptly seated at our reserved time in a spacious dining room. Complimentary lentil soup was delivered after placing our order; fried paneer, biryani chicken and chicken tikka masala. Paneer was bland, as was the lentil soup. This surprised me because if you fail to order "mild" on most Indian dishes your tongue will suffer. Tikka nasals and biryani were both good. Check in for free dessert, we chose the galub jamon... but they were brought out with the meal, and were room temp by the time we got to them. Nice space, nice people, average food... this joint joint not make the list...

Indian food has my heart! This is hands down the best Indian food in San Diego. The menu is endless, theres literally something for everyone here. Not a meat eater? They have plenty of veggie options which is great. Staff is always to nice, personable and attentive. The ambiance is pretty cool they have some cute little salt lamp decor and some nice music playing in the background. You won't be disappointed if you try this place out and trust me you'll keep coming back!

Don't waste your money or time on this place. I don't know if it's a change in ownership or cooks. Maybe they just don't care! The Food was awful! No spice level. Do better. Update: Manager Raj called and offered to replace everything and hot sauce.

The food is AMAZING! Anytime my husband and I are in the area we have to eat here. The service is incredible everyone is so kind. We always enjoy the Tikka Masala, Saag, and the butter chicken.

One of our favorite places in San Diego! Great service, great quality food. They give you a complimentary lentil soup. We always get the Chicken tikka masala, and the garlic naan. The entrees come with your choice of naan or rice, and my husband loves the chili chicken. The momos are unique twists on dumplings (Tibetan) and the mango lassi is delicious. Always enjoy this place and service and food quality are always consistent. Family friendly! And great value for the price as well.

Absolutely love having this place nearby where i live. There's not to many spots for Himalayan food so the fact I have that option is just amazing. Miss the lunch special!! But regardless I've tried many different dishes and they are all great!

BEST Indian food in San Diego. They're consistently delicious, no matter what you order. I highly recommend getting a lunch special-it's a great deal! My favorite dish is the tikka masala, of course. But I also like the chicken vindaloo and the saag aloo! Make sure you order the mango lassi!

This is the spot. This is my favorite place so far for my curry fix. Located in a plaza with ample parking, you will be greeted promptly and seated. We came on a Saturday night and there was no wait. My wife and I were absolutely craving curry and we ordered a specialty lamb and chicken curry. You can choose naan or rice as your side, so we went one of each. The curries were right out of the pan hot and the taste was nothing like I've had ordering the typical tikka masala near my work. I would love to come back and explore more of their menu.

We came here last night. I have been here many times and usually the service is okay. The server placed a hot cup of soup in front of my baby and my baby grabbed it and burned herself. Then they took forever to bring the bill so my husband had to go up and ask for it. We paid the entire bill and still Left a cash tip but we will never come to this place again.

We came here for lunch. I've dined at other Himalayan Cuisine's and enjoyed everything. This spot was just a tad bland. The Dal lacked flavor and tasted like it needed to be cooked a little longer. I ordered the Chicken Korma- the chicken was a bit on the dry side and it wasn't very flavorful. The garlic and cheese nan was good. It had a great garlic flavor. I will likely go back and eat her again, as I've had good experiences at others, and maybe this was just an off day.

Very nice very clean place. Quiet. Great service. Had the lamb biriyani, chicken korma and chicken tikka masala. The chicken korma was delicious. The biriyani was not as good as we had it there other times. The chicken tikka masala was great also.

This place is a gem. Service was fast and excellent! Staff was super nice. Now for the food . Absolutely phenomenal. Excellent flavor and variety. If you're in the college area this place is a must.

Wow, what the hell was going on last night. It's a Friday evening and we decided to dine here. We knew from prior experience that the food would be delicious. But no, not tonight....... After a very long wait, approximately 50 minutes, we noticed that most people arriving after us already had received their orders. Not us........ We reminded our server. At about an hour wait, the server (another person) delivered finally the food. He threw the plates virtually on the table like someone is feeding animals. It definitely was disturbing. Now we had a look at our food. The Vegetables Biryani was well overcook and must have been siting in the warmer for quite some time. The rise was soft and mushy. The Lamb Saag was tasty, but it was not the creamy type spinach we used to get, rather like mashed potatoes and the Lamb pieces were too large, like someone just took a hatchet to it. The next item was the mushroom tikka masala. I usually get chicken tikka masala, but not this time. My mistake. The mushroom tikka masala just did not come up to my expectation. I missed the flavor that I would usually experience. The mushroom were not freshy cut. I was able to taste that they came from a can. Definitely not freshly cut. What was the highlight of this dinner? Absolutely nothing!!!!!!!!! I have never "Not Tipped." But last night it was the first time.

Very large restaurant, was busy, couple large groups but felt very comfortable and private at the same time. Food was delicious! We tried three different meals, everything was flavorful and good portions. Complimentary lentil soup with each meal. Service was great too!

This is place is huuuuuge inside! Almost big enough venue to host a wedding. I guess you could if you bought out the entire place. Didn't ask, but wouldn't doubt they have that capability. No real waiting because they have plenty of seating available. So many employees. Great service. Clean bathrooms. Relaxing & authentic atmosphere. Our Order: Chicken Chhoila, (husband loved this, but I was just okay with this) Plain Naan (gotta have), Cilantro garlic naan (seriously gotta have), chicken korma (very tasty), mango chicken (daughter loved it), butter chicken (you can taste the butter!) and iced chai (sipped this up in 1 minute (exaggerating). There are sooooo many dishes to choose from (some might think its overwhelming) but they really do cover everyone. Plenty of vegetarian dishes. It's great because we will back and now we'll try 4 more new dishes. But will always to have the naan bread because its great to dip that in any of the dishes sauce.

This place never disappoints. Customer service is great. Always seated in a timely manner. The food always comes out steaming hot and fresh. The ambiance is beautiful, quiet, and well decorated with cultural decor.

Ambiance is great. It's peaceful. Mellow, easy to order, relax and eat. Bathrooms are fantastic, so clean, smells clean, they have everything here unlike majority of restaurants here in San Diego. Also their toilet paper is superrrr soft. I respect that. Anyways I got lamb biryani and vegetable samosas. I came with my mom. We love this place and have been coming here for years. Great food and respectful staff with fast services.

This review is solely based on take out. This is our go to spot. We love everything we've ever tried. Nothing has ever disappointed us. My personal favorite is the veggie korma and chicken vindaloo but we continue to try new plates and everything is delicious. The online ordering is super easy and we've never had an issue with our order being correct. The workers at the front are always so friendly, even if it's for the couple minutes we are picking up our food.
