Updated Review for High Point Barber - 1 Star I'm updating my review to address the response from High Point Barber and provide more context about my experience. As a happy customer who has visited all the High Point Barber locations, I've always considered this one of the best places in town for a haircut. Until now, my experiences have been consistently great, which makes this situation even more disappointing. The issue arose when I tried to book an appointment at a location I hadn't visited in 2 haircuts (was at another High Point Location for those haircuts). Despite being a current customer of High Point Barber, I was told I needed to book as a new client for this particular barber. This policy wasn't clearly communicated on their website, nor had I encountered it in my previous visits to other locations. When I expressed confusion about this policy via text, saying, "This is the first time I am hearing about this," it was apparently interpreted as combative. This wasn't my intention at all - I was genuinely surprised by what seemed like a new requirement. What's most frustrating is how the situation was handled. Instead of working with me to find a solution, such as asking if I could adjust my appointment time by 15 minutes, they simply canceled my booking and insisted I rebook as a new client. This rigid approach seems at odds with the excellent customer service I've come to expect from High Point Barber. One of the main reasons I've been a loyal customer is the consistently high quality across all barbers. The idea that I need to book as a new client each time I try a different barber contradicts the very benefit of choosing High Point Barber - that all their barbers are skilled professionals. Final Update to High Point Barber Review - 1 Star After careful consideration, I feel it necessary to provide a final update to my review: Website Policy: I fully understand and accept that the website states appointments are not guaranteed. This is a reasonable policy that allows for necessary adjustments in scheduling. Mischaracterization of Attitude: I must firmly reject the assertion that I was combative. The conversation screenshot I provided clearly demonstrate otherwise. It's disappointing to see this mischaracterization in an attempt to justify the handling of the situation. Inconsistent Policy Application: After reviewing the website and conversations with staff at multiple locations, I've found no clear indication that booking as a new client is required for every barber within the High Point organization. In fact, staff at other locations have stated that "new customer" status only applies to first-time High Point clients. Previous Positive Experiences: It's important to note that I've had excellent customer service from High Point in the past, including at this location. Recently, when a barber left, the staff helpfully assisted me in booking at another High Point location that had a suitable opening. This level of service is what I've come to expect and appreciate. Communication Breakdown: The core issue here was not the need to adjust the appointment, but rather the abrupt cancellation and insistence on rebooking as a new client without exploring alternatives. A simple conversation about time requirements or potential adjustments could have resolved this situation amicably. While I understand the challenges of managing a busy salon, customer service should be consistent across all interactions. This situation could have been handled with better communication and a more flexible approach, in line with the excellent service I've received in the past. I sincerely hope that High Point Barber will take this feedback constructively to ensure that long-time customers continue to receive the high-quality service that has been the hallmark of my previous experiences.

I have to say, my experience with High Point was absolutely fabulous. I'm new to RVA, and hadn't gotten a haircut in probably five months. I keep it pretty shaggy, generally, and needed a haircut asap. Called in, and got an appointment with an apprentice -- Van -- about three days later. Van was fabulous. I told him exactly what I wanted, how I liked my hair, and showed him a couple of pics. "I got you" and went to work. He was methodical, professional, and kind. My haircut was exactly what I wanted, and then some. I know he's an apprentice right now, but I'll be booking with Van from now on. 10/10! Also, the atmosphere was great. Front desk staff was very friendly, music was mid-2000s alternative, and in general, everyone seemed like they were having a good time. Check them out, and request an appointment with my man Van!

Highly recommend! All the barbers are very talented and do high quality work, but I cannot recommend Patrick enough. Have been going to High Point for ~2.5 years and have booked with Patrick for~1.5 years. He is talented and you can tell he has a passion for his craft. I have really appreciated his willingness to discuss different cut options and his professional recommendations on what would work best for the look I am going for. He also spends time to educate me on the best styling options. The best part about Patrick's (as well as the rest) are that the cut grows out well. Each time I have been impressed that as my hair grows out, it continues to look styled and good up until the time of my next cut! Come here for a high quality cut, great atmosphere, and honest/professional recommendations.

Recently moved to RVA and hate finding a new barber because I have always been very particulate when it comes to who cuts my hair. Everyone at the front desk has always been very friendly helpful. Shawn (hope I spelled it the right way.) has done a phenomenal job both times I have been in. He nailed exactly what I was looking for right of the bat. He has a real attention to detail and takes the time to do it right. Can not recommend strongly enough.

I definitely had a great experience when I got my haircut. Not very experienced with barber cuts, but I felt relaxed, didn’t have a very good idea of what I wanted but came out looking and feeling great. Will definitely be back every 3 weeks.

Patrick O’Meara is a top-tier barber. Takes his time and makes sure everything looks perfect. Sarah, the front desk manager is super friendly and helpful. She makes sure you have your next appointment booked before you leave, which I really appreciated! Relaxed atmosphere and friendly people.

Tried walking in and was rudely told they only do by appointment and the next available was 4 weeks out despite the shop having 4 barbers and 1 customer at the time. I tried calling during business hours (around 1pm) and no one even answered the phone. Awful service all around.

I’ve been going to High Point since it opened (seriously, nobody other than Elliott has cut my hair since 2013) and am continually impressed with my experience. Elliott is the man. He gives me a great cut every time. It’s clear he cares about his clients. And, I have a great time when I come into the shop. The guys have an authentic, familial way of relating to each other. You walk into this place and you feel part of the family. Thanks High Point!
