Henie Onstad Art Center

Henie Onstad Art Centre in Høvik is a wonderful place to visit if you enjoy modern art, calm surroundings, and beautiful views. The location by the Oslofjord is stunning, and the outdoor sculpture park adds a unique experience — perfect for a peaceful walk before or after exploring the exhibitions. Inside, the gallery spaces are bright, spacious, and very well organized. Exhibitions change often and include a mix of modern, contemporary, and experimental art, so there’s always something new to see. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere is relaxed — great for both adults and kids. The café is another highlight, with good food and amazing views of the water. Parking is convenient and access is easy. Overall, a great combination of art + nature + good food.

Spend couple of hours with some friends looking at very versatile selection of art exhibitions. It was also very interesting to see the clothing and awards Henie won during her long career. Remarkable lady, and that is coming from somebody that has no idea on how to scate.

As a Yayoi Kusama fan, this was an unforgettable experience. The center houses some of her iconic works, including immersive installations that play with light, mirrors, and color in ways that are both playful and deeply moving. Unlike more crowded Kusama exhibitions around the world, here you can take your time, reflect quietly, and truly absorb the details. Set beautifully by the Oslofjord, the museum’s location adds to the calm and contemplative atmosphere. The surrounding nature, combined with the clean, minimalist architecture, enhances the art-viewing experience. There’s also a lovely café and sculpture park, making it easy to spend half a day here. What sets Henie Onstad apart is its balance of world-class art and peaceful surroundings. It’s not overrun by tourists, so you’re free to engage with the works in a personal and meaningful way. Whether you’re a Kusama devotee or simply enjoy contemporary art in a serene setting, this center is a must-visit when in Norway.

A gem of varied art with changing and fresh art exhibitions, everything from painting, to 3D models and soundscapes. Always fun exploring this museum. The park surrounding it is also very chill, with a lot of interesting sculptures scattered around. It’s quite big and can take a whole day if wished.

Henie Onstad Art Center is a great all-day destination—modern architecture, inspiring art exhibitions, outdoor sculptures, waterfront views, walking trails, and cozy places to eat and relax.

Our visit to the museum was incredibly fortunate. When we arrived, there were very few people around. Even more amazingly, they still had Yayoi Kusama's work on display, particularly the "Infinity Mirror Room," where we found ourselves alone with the mesmerizing lights and reflections. Typically, museums limit visitors to 15 minutes per room, and there are usually 2-4 more visitors in each space. However, on this occasion, it felt like a private viewing, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the art. It was an unforgettable and privileged experience.

I had the 72 Oslo Pass so I got in free. I'm a massive Kusuma fan, hence, my visit. Had the room to myself. There's a Jean Arp in the upstairs collection and a Sonja Henie room, too. Yes, bus stop is on the motorway. It wasn't an issue.
