"Hazel Southern Kitchen is around the corner from my former location on 11th Street - right across the street from the Twitter HQ on Market. Before COVID, they had this amazing lounge space, and they also had jazz musicians come in on a nightly basis. There was just something so healing about eating comfort food and listening to jazz music at the same time. It just felt like medicine for your soul. And now they’re open for takeout and delivery only. Please go by and support them. They have this amazing mac and cheese." - simileoluwa adebajo 1

Google
Hazel's Kitchen has some of the best sandwiches around.🥰 We have been coming here for years (late 90's), never disappointed!! Will cross a bridge when craving a good deli sandwich. I don't stray too far from a personal favorite, "build your own," sliced dark rye, turkey, regular mayo, yellow mustard, lettuce, tomato, avocado and pickle. Huge sandwich, saved the other half for later🥪💫. Prices are incredibly reasonable, staff is super friendly, always nice and fast!!! Best Portrero Hill location for walking around and hanging out. Tons of menu options, gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, etc, etc, etc. Seating table area outside is close by and shaded. Will continue to cross a bridge or two for a great deli sandwich, bagel sandwich, wrap sandwich, all the sandwiches!🥪🥯🌯✊🏼

Google
Little light on the pastrami for a $14 dollar sandwich in my opinion. I was really hoping the peanut butter cookie would give me a reason to go back and try it again, but it was lacking as well.

I was right there on Texas Street, right around the corner from Hazel's Kitchen visiting my old pal Kreedãnz Kleãrwatr and he says he's got soup and sandwiches being delivered from Hazel's. I've had Hazel's in the past, and I have fond memories of food, and today's lunch was no exception...As a matter of fact both the soup and the sandwiches were Amazing! ☆☆☆☆☆

I came here 2 days in a row! I first had the 5a sandwich without bacon so it was it was vegetarian. I thought I would only eat half but I ended up eating the whole sandwich because it was yummy and not too heavy. I ordered the seeded roll. The second day I ordered half a chicken sandwich (grilled) which was good and a cup of soup (both are the same price of a full sandwich). Wow, the gazpacho soup was amazing! It’s a cold tomato soup with cucumber. It was a great surprise. I think the sandwich needed a bit more cheese but it was good too. The staff is super friendly, prices are fair and I liked the atmosphere. Plus they gave me my sandwich in less than 5 min! They have some tables outside to sit down.

Google
The Jordan is the best sandwich in SF. The chefs are always super friendly and brighten my day!

Google
Great food, just don’t get the Ruben unless you want to be disappointed. Would be good if they added more meat, dressing and sauerkraut. The way they make it is strange, they add lettuce tomato and cucumber on top of the ingredients of a Ruben.

Google
Love their sandwiches! The lunch meal is a good deal ☺️ People are kind and efficient. The chairs and tables could be improved to be more comfortable and safe even if they’re not intended for long meals.

Fantastic sandwiches. Small outdoor patio for eating in. Roast beef was rare, horseradish was strong, French roll was fresh baked and absolutely delicious.

Yelp
tldr; impressively quick service, and delicious sandwiches that are well worth the price! cute outdoor patio to romanticize your sandwich eating experience. price: ~13-$15 per sandwich recs: caesar special wrap - Caesar Special Wrap: Perfect and balanced in every way you can imagine a caesar salad wrap to be. The croutons were impressively savory, crunchy, and flavorful. The bouncy spinach wrap offered a really nice textural contrast with everything else that was going on inside. The ranch was a tad runny (but not a problem to clean up with all the napkins they provide). - Crispy Chicken Sandwich: The chicken wasn't as crispy as we had imagined it to be, but the sauces made up for it. This was both sweet and savory and came with many beautiful layers of veggies and aioli. The service was super fast and friendly. Definitely worth a visit -- I can imagine this being a nice treat after venturing up Potrero Hill.

Yelp
Best chicken caesar wrap I've tried in SF!! I've tried around 10 different caesar wraps now and nothing beats this one. It's toasted/grilled and the inside is generously coated in the vibrant and tart caesar dressing. Tossed perfectly with whole grilled chunks of chicken, shredded Parmesan, and crunchy well seasoned croutons. All the sauce seeps to the bottom too so the ending bites are heavenly with all the sauce. I will say I asked to add croutons so not sure if they're generally included but 10/10! Will def need to try their sandwiches next they look amazing

Yelp
The steak melt knocked it off the park. Crisp edges while still being tender. No gristle that often ends up in a wrestling match that tears apart a sandwich. The sesame roll has the perfect crispy, the vinaigrette bright the acidity, and the perfectly ripe tomatoes and peppers brought it home. I previously lived next to deli board and was looking for a Potrero hill replacement. I found it. Also very thankful that they served me 5 minutes before closing without skipping on the quality. I'd skip the cookie though. Was just ok.

Ruby C.

Yelp
Needed a quick lunch on a Saturday so decided to stop by this spot. There's decent parking in the area since it's in Potrero hill. We walked in ordered the grilled chicken melt and Caesar special wrap with croutons. There's no seating inside but there are two small tables outside to eat. I got the Caesar wrap and it was so good! Very light and refreshing if you aren't too hungry for lunch. My boyfriend got the sandwich and he really liked his too. Overall a good sandwich/wrap spot for a quick lunch

Yelp
Moldy bagel... You would think a breakfast sandwich place in San Francisco would have fresh bread. Literally served me a moldy bagel I didn't notice until I was halfway through. They refunded me but that's so gross and pathetic that it was even served at all. I was sick all the next day afterwards

Yelp
I finally came here after a long time hearing about it! Good: - I got the Jon sandwich and was really happy with my choice - it came with a choice of bread - I got the Dutch Crunch. Super good and huge portion sizes - definitely juicy, freshly made, and cheaply priced. - Fast and easy pick up - cute interior when you go to check in on your order. Bad: - No indoor seating, you have to sit on the road - No service, just a drop in and go place Overall this place was good - I liked the variety, and I'm going to try other sandwiches next time!

Michelle K.

Yelp
To be honest, I'm not the biggest sandwich lover, but Hazel's has always served. I've been here several times before in person but it was my first time ordering pickup. They actually called me to double check pick up time which revealed great service. The sandwiches themselves are also at a reasonable price for how filling they are!

Chika M.

Yelp
the staff members were so sweet! it was so refreshing to see such a huge smile on the workers' faces in the morning. in terms of food, i think the eggs were salted with a bit of a heavy hand, and more on the burnt side than what i would've preferred. the waffle was really tasty! i loved how generous they were with the berries. the outdoor seating was nice but under a tree that had some leaves falling on the table. overall, nice play for a little breakfast.

erika e.

Yelp
Super nice folks. I didn't realize what time it was and walked in at 3pm as they were closing. They greeted me and let me order without mentioning they were closed. Had the chilli and the sandwich with hummus and veggies. So good! It wasn't until I picked up the food I realized they helped me when they could've easily turned me away.

Surbhi G.

Yelp
I wanted to try a local spot and was excited to go here based on the reviews. I bought an egg and cheese bagel sandwich. I took a bite into it and it tasted really bitter so so I opened the bagel up and saw that it was burnt (bagel and egg). I couldn't finish it. We were already back home eating the burnt bagels, otherwise I would have asked for a refund. Very disappointed especially for the price. I wish I had got to farleys next door instead.

Melissa M.

Yelp
It was so good i forgot to take a picture of my sandwich! Loved this local hole in the wall with great service and even greater bites. Hazel's dressing is so yummy!!!

Bradford L.

Yelp
I don't come to Portrero Hill often, but I love the neighborhood a lot. I visited Hazel's Kitchen for a quick lunch after a workout, and ordered the Steak Melt. This sandwich was absolutely delicious! The meat was tender, and the filling was generous. Minor complaint was the sandwich was a bit messy to eat, but I can easily overlook that for a solid sandwich. Overall, a great restaurant, and I'd love to try their other menu items.

Misha T.

Yelp
Had this kinda crazy chicken bacon avocado cucumber sprout honey mustard sandwich (Jason's Special, I think?). I don't think it totally worked as a combination but I liked the creativity on the attempt. Just a little too much going on and it didn't really click. Also I think it would have been better if the ingredients were chopped smaller in terms of the integrity of the sandwich. The fillings were just spilling out and it was hard to manage. The dutch is pretty consistent with the new softer dutch I don't prefer but you can't really hold that against them since this seems endemic now.

Randy T.

Yelp
Got the Juan special sandwich on sourdough here and damn that's good. The pineapple pairs great with the sandwich and the chicken was not dry at all. Great. Con is that its super small, only like two outdoor tables so thats a bit tough. Service was good and fast, its like a fast casual type place so nothing crazy in terms of the experience

Tiffany Y.

Yelp
I've never been a big sandwich person before, but Hazel's Kitchen might have converted me. All their sandwiches come with Hazel's dressing, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and onion, which means they are packed with veggies and toppings. I tried the roast turkey and smoked provolone with cranberries and it was amazing. It was the perfect combination of savory, sweet, and tart. My boyfriend tried the Ryan Special Sandwich on a Dutch crunch roll and it was also really good. We also liked our friend' Tuna Salad Melt and the Jordan Special Sandwich, which basically means you can't go wrong with anything you choose here! I recommend getting a whole sandwich because just a half will leave you wanting more. If you like sandwiches with a balanced amount of veggies and meat, this place is definitely for you! I've started craving sandwiches ever since eating here.

Patricia T.

Yelp
If you ever need a quick and easy meal, Hazel's has you covered. Sandwiches, bagels, salads: the selection is excellent for a quick and simple eat. BF had the Italian sandwich and I had a Caesar salad...with a LOT of steak. BF liked his sandwich, I'll tell you more about my salad: those housemase croutons are NO JOKE. And the combination between dressing, lettuce, parmesan, crouton, and steak is a powerful one. The people here are so sweet -- it's a small place so you can see the folks here making your food right there. Neighborhood vibes!

Vanessa M.

Yelp
The food was absolutely delicious here, and have options that go above and beyond the typical sandwich shop. I got a Turkey sandwich on a Dutch crunch roll and my friend got a breakfast burrito. They were both worth what we paid, and I would return to get the same order. The service was kind, as they were super busy and were trying to help a ton of people in a quick manner which they handled great. Lastly, they don't have any seating inside the store as you just order at the counter and then wait outside, but they have a few different seating options out front. The parking in the area is easy to find. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for some solid comfort food.

Preeti R.

Yelp
Quick, hassle free, delicious meal. We got a steak melt and a veggie melt with whole wheat bread and they were both great and had a good combination of ingredients that worked well together. It was also good to see that they welcome substitutions. The veggie melt came with a balsamic vinegar based sauce that adds a tinge of sweetness to the sandwich. I loved eating out in the outdoor space where they share tables with Farley, the coffee shop next door, it's great for people and dog watching in the beautiful Potrero neighborhood. Will be back to try some of their other sandwich options.

Ray B.

Yelp
My pastrami sandwich was lacking the pastrami in the pastrami sandwich. Hell, there was more lettuce than pastrami. $15 for this lettuce sandwich. This place use to be so good. What happen...

Kathryn S.

Yelp
Best chorizo breakfast burrito I've had in sf. The workers are also so friendly and cheerful!

Zoe B.

Yelp
Great value--we'll be back to try more of the menu. Breakfast burrito was delicious, sandwiches too.

Janice J.

Yelp
I got the 5b veggie sandwich on a seeded roll. It had lettuce, olives, balsamic onions, hummus, tomato. The sandwich was pretty large and filling. I love that Hazel's Kitchen is such a neighborhood staple for breakfast. They're also very affordable. They have a couple of tables outside but people usually order and take their order to-go. I'll be back for breakfasts on weekends!

Craig V.

Yelp
Came here last Saturday morning when the wait at Plow was a bit too long for our schedule, and I'm so glad that we did. FMU, it's the best sandwich shop in the city. Just come here and try the turkey sandwich or the breakfast burrito . Unbelievably good. Super nice people who work there, and the sandwich takes a maximum of 10 minutes to be prepared. Eat it as soon as possible, taking it home degrades the sandwich bread some. But still it's amazing. Don't sleep on this place. Really though, first time I ate it I came back every day that week.

David M.

Yelp
Hazel is an awesome little local spot. Love their breakfast burritos and all the sandwiches are great. They are so friendly and speedy.

Raquel C.

Yelp
I'm very disappointed I paid $7.95 (way overpriced) for a side salad that was suited for a child, not an adult. My co-workers and I were excited to order lunch together and we decided on Hazel's Kitchen. Whenever I order food I always like to have a salad with my meal and the salad options determine where we order from. I was excited to have a sandwich and side salad for lunch until it arrived and I took a look at the size of the salad and it was almost the same size as my computer mouse (please see pictures below). At max, this salad should be priced at about $4 per its size, and even that is too much. I've ordered from other places where their side salad was cheaper and still larger than what Hazel's Kitchen provided. Please rethink the size of your side salad or the pricing. Thank you. **UPDATE TO MY REVIEW: The owner of the organizing reached out to me regarding the side salad and pricing and agreed that $7.95 is too much for a side salad and offered a full refund, which I have not taken up yet as I have not had time to pass by the store. I appreciate her prompt response in this matter. Come to find out it was GrubHub that marked up the pricing of the side salad from $5.95 to $7.95, which $5.95 for that size side salad is still $2.00 more than I would pay and the sandwiches were also marked up by $1-$2, so please double check the site from where you order and compare pricing. Shame on you GrubHub for marking up pricing when we already have to pay for the following: Delivery Fees, Service Fees, Sales Taxes, Driver Tips, and Driver Benefits Fees (which these fees help service and benefit the workers, all good things) So don't raise the prices on the items themselves. GrubHub will be hearing from me and I'm not the type of person to complain about stuff, but they are taking advantage of their consumers and I have time today.

Kimberly Y.

Yelp
As someone who prefers to remove cheese from most of my foods (so feel free to stop reading if that doesn't apply to you), Hazel's has the best breakfast burrito for my liking. I get the burrito with bacon, no cheese. Thanks to the right proportions of salsa and avocado, the burrito is flavorful without being dry at all! It's only $9, but it's also not the biggest breakfast burrito. We've also tried the omelette, which was pretty good, and the Belgian waffle, which was unfortunately just alright. I tend to just stick to the burrito. I find they're also super friendly not only with people but also with our friend's dog, offering up turkey scraps as treats when they're not too busy.

Monique V.

Yelp
One of the best sandwich shops I've visited! Got the 5a with added chicken and some fresh watermelon juice soooo good!! Staff was friendly and fast!

Jackie O.

Yelp
everything I've had here so far is full of flavor and taste great. The staff is friendly and the whole vibe of the area is relaxing definitely a place to meet up with friends and relax.

Shireen K.

Yelp
A good place to grab a quick bite with extremely friendly service (bonus points for the good boy snacks given to my dog while we waited for our tacos!). I've had both the Hayley's Sandwich (a solid choice for a sando although large) and the tacos (also quite a large portion). Thumbs up for a friendly neighborhood lunch spot.

Geeta S.

Yelp
The food is awesome. As a vegetarian I always get the tofu breakfast burrito! The service is good too. The staff is friendly and they are relatively fast. The ambiance is the outdoors general seating area since this is a very small shop. Sometimes it's crowded and we walk with our food. One of the tastiest spots

Dusty R.

Yelp
I ordered the BLT avocado on Sesame roll. Perhaps I should have read the description more carefully because I wasn't expecting cucumbers in a BLT. Of course it didn't have tomato and onions which were also listed on the description. The roll was so stale that it was crumbling. It was disappointing considering how many great reviews this place has received.

Neva F.

Yelp
Hazels is nothing short of amazing. They field your order from anywhere (online, phone, at the counter), and serve it up so fast! Don't bother with wonky customization (unless, you know health), bc the combo's on the menu are already delish. Let Hazel's make you day!

Tatum T.

Yelp
Tuna melt was bomb!! Paired with salt and vinegar chips. Order was ready promptly. Definitely grab lunch from here

Mimi L.

Yelp
Have been here a handful of times making sure to try something new each visit (unfortunately can't remember exact names of what I got previously. Had the chorizo breakfast burrito today with added jalapeños and originally did not think it would fill me up, but it definitely did. Loved that the tortilla was slightly toasted and wasn't super thick and leaving me with just a huge bite of flour tortilla. I would definitely get the chorizo burrito again! Also the workers here are always the absolute most welcoming! A few outdoor tables to sit down at and street parking.

Winston C.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday morning for a quick brunch/early lunch. Pleasantly surprised by the amazing sandwiches and quick service. Highly recommend coming here for some bomb sandwiches made with fresh bread. We had the Emita Special Melt and Juan Special Sandwich. Both were stacked full of meat and absolutely delicious! Would readily get both again and the sauce that was on them was amazing. Also had the honeydew aqua fresca and it was also delicious.. tasted just like honeydew juice, pure and sweet. I would definitely grab a sandwich here again next time I'm in the area or would even grab one early to take for a picnic/lunch later.

OnlyatBrandei S.

Yelp
Grabbed breakfast bagel sandwiches from this spot and went to have coffee next door. For a tiny kitchen, they offer a surprising number of customizations. I wish they had seating available, but this place met expectations and then some for a takeout-only situation.

Monica B.

Yelp
Ordered a pastrami sandwich and there was barely 2 slices of meat! It cost $14 and I was extremely disappointed. The sour dough bread was good but not much inside my sandwich. If you want repeat customers, you will need to make decent sandwiches and don't skimp out on lunch meat and cheese.

Vicki W.

Yelp
Hands down the best BLT we've ever had! The staff are over the top helpful and friendly. It was a great service topped off by great food. I would give them 6 stars if I could!

Morgan P.

Yelp
Hazel's Kitchen never fails! Their food is always always amazing and the guys that work there are the kindest. My typical order is a breakfast sandwich (eggs, bacon, cheese, + avocado) which is always sooooo so good. Today I decided to try the Jordan Special and it was amazing. Going to continue making my way down the menu and I'm sure I'll love every order as I have already,

Alex C.

Yelp
Came here today for lunch on a whim when we went to Plow and realized how packed it was. What a great decision since not only was there no line, but the food was amazing! A tiny, quaint little shop with very limited seating inside (there are about 3 stools), Hazel's Kitchen is still very inviting with a plethora of delicious items on their menu. I decided to go with the steak quesadilla today, and what I got was a giant serving of utter deliciousness wrapped in a big green spinach tortilla. This thing literally filled the take out container it came in, and was packed with delicious strips of steak, red peppers, zucchini, onions, and avocados, all mixed into a gooey perfection of melted mozzarella cheese. The service here was very friendly and inviting, and everyone behind the counter thanked us for coming as we were leaving. A definitely gem in the neighborhood and a must try for your lunch needs!

SFdweller T.

Yelp
Absolutely love Hazels. Great sandwiches and breakfast meals - their bacon egg and cheese on toasted sesame was my go to when I was pregnant and saved me time and again. Great and friendly staff too.

Rachel C.

Yelp
The sandwiches here are excellent, the staff are friendly, and the service is fast, even during a busy lunch hour! The Jordan special was full of grilled chicken, pesto sauce, and tomatoes--Would order again.

Sandra L.

Yelp
Hazel's kitchen is bomb dot com. The sandwiches are so delicious. I prefer warm sandwiches on a freezing cold SF summer and I can't recommend this place enough. There's some delicious (probably secretive) sauce that's in these sandwiches and I keep coming back for more. We ventured out of our regular tuna melt routine and got the chicken melt this time. It's packed with a fulfilling bite, lots of flavors but the right balance of savory, creaminess and sweetness. There's some pesto in it too and it just tops the sandwich from being amazing to heavenly. Front of the house cashier staff is friendly, the kitchen pump out sandwiches quickly, there's nothing to fault with this place. Go support this business!

James L.

Yelp
I don't know what they do with the delicious smelling food that you can smell from down the street, but it sure didn't go on our plate. None of the food was warm. The worst bacon I've ever had, scrambled eggs were fried and overcooked, Belgian waffle was just fine.

Caroline W.

Yelp
Hazel's Italian Melt is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Would definitely recommend, as well as their fresh orange juice and watermelon agua Fresca. The Juan Special Sandwich is also amazing. Love this place.

Kylie S.

Yelp
Best tuna melt I've ever had. Chefs kiss super friendly and fast service. 10/10 would try again

Taylor Z.

Yelp
Very solid sandwiches that are quite filling. The grilled chicken melt had nice crunchy bread and lovey filling!

Roshni G.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick lunch and OMG the chicken Caesar salad was delicious!! It was like the chicken was flavored with bacon! Hubby got a good BLT with avocado too. No pics because we killed it soooo fast. A few seats outside and super friendly staff.

Ipsit S.

Yelp
I love this place. The owner and staff are always so friendly and welcoming. They take the time to get to know you and I've never felt rushed to order. I've been grabbing food here before starting my shifts and my only regret is not coming here earlier. If you're look to support small business, Hazel's is it.
