This is a beautiful park. In springtime, everything is flowing. The rest of the year also, but the spring is the best time to see it. It has a couple miles of interior trails, and an outer 1 mile loop with pedestrian, bike and car lanes. Plenty of large gray areas for picnics/ play, amd a large water feature on the western end, and beautiful large live oaks everywhere. This place is a must see for all.

This park is a little slice of beauty and peace within the Charleston peninsula. Great seasonal flower beds, large live oaks and easy walking paths.

Google
A great public park for hikers, runners, bikers and dog walkers. The size is perfect for normal folks. Came town for a beach vacation. Paid a visit at early morning with my k9 baby. We had a great time. Also walked around the Citadel. Impressive campus.

Google
Lovely park, but Charleston City Police threatened to arrest my friend and me because we were wearing protective face masks. There's a new ordinance that says nobody over age 16 can wear a mask; however, there are medical exceptions. Police refused our medical exemptions, saying it has to be N95 masks. That's not true. We will be back and I will be wearing my standard face mask. They also violated our 4th Amendment Rights by forcing us to ID ourselves; which we only did under threat of arrest. The park could use a few more picnic tables and maybe some benches around the pond.

Google
Beautiful, spacious, well tended sensory paths and walk/run/bike trails with varying surfaces to fit all preferences. There is a playground across the street from the primary park grounds. Public bathrooms were well kept across from the Mary Murray Dr. Parking lot. Bring a snack or two for the homeless. Great for families and stroller walking.

Fun place for friends. And family alike. I would suggest planning a day out here and enjoying the beautiful sights and greenery. It’s home to a few places where one could do yoga or exercise classes - see the green citadel area . I loved coming here and just thinking or going for a run

Nice hidden gem. Clean, very walkable. We grabbed a couple of sandwiches and enjoyed a nice afternoon

Yelp
Hampton Park is a wonderful, large park in Downtown Charleston. It is a great place to run, walk, or bike, but if you're not into fitness, you can always come here just to relax or have a picnic. The gazebo and rose pavilion are especially pretty. A lot of folks take photos here- I've seen many wedding and family photographers when I've been here for runs. It does cost a LOT to get married here, though, and you must go through the city. If you like to run, walk, or bike, the road around the park (Mary Murray Blvd.) is closed to cars/trucks on Saturday mornings. If you choose to run, walk, or bike any other time, be sure to stay in the designated lane. One "lap" is almost a mile which means you have access to your car, water, bathroom, etc every mile. I've always felt safe here but I usually visit during daylight or early evening hours. A few groups meet here to run or work out too, so you can join one of those for safety in numbers if you're concerned.

Yelp
After lunch at Grove & Park we decided to go for a walk in nearby Hampton Park. It was a glorious autumn afternoon and the walk was just perfect. What a beautifully maintained Park for public use. Gorgeous flowering trees and shrubs with people walking their dogs & babies. A beautiful gazebo and pond with lots of benches to sit & soak in the fresh air and sunshine. I only have one complaint... There are no signs, so you don't know where you are going or the distance involved. Other than that we had a lovely time meandering around the park.

Yelp
Always beautiful, peaceful and serene. Sunday strolls in paradise with the pup. #lovewhereyoulive

Yelp
The park is beautiful with many different areas to relax, by the lake, in the trees, gazebos. Parking was easy and the walking paths are well kept. The flowers were quite extensive in mid May.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful park right outside downtown Charleston. This is a great spot for a walk, run, bike ride and/or a picnic as there are plenty of great paths and spots to enjoy a picnic. The azaleas and blossoms are gorgeous in the spring!

Yelp
Hampton park has been a place of comfort for my roommates and I for awhile now! We go frequently, it's the perfect walk. You have so much to look at and so many cute dogs to run into. We bring dogs there all the time, they have stations all around for doggy bags and a water station in the middle of the park. During the spring the flowers in one walk way are absolutely breath taking. Not to say the flowers are always gorgeous because they are, they have people there constantly taking care of the park and planting new flowers ever so often to keep it fresh and gorgeous! They do a great job. The combos and unique flowers they have are so fun to look at and take pictures of. They have plenty of ducks/ goose/ birds- not sure exactly what they are but so fun. They do poop a lot all over so be ware but that's nature for you. We love walking around grabbing coffee or a smoothie at huriyali or little line kitchen- which is more of a walk but still close. They also have lime bikes there which are so much fun and a great activity if bored. Take a few laps or bike anywhere. Definitely will need to check it out if in the area.

Yelp
A must visit if you are touring charleston. The park has multiple paved trails, good for wheelchair users. Biking path on the road along the perimeter of the park. Small pond with water geese and a playground for kids. The bathroom was locked when we were there so I'm not sure what the operating hours are. It's one of the best designed park I've visited anywhere. It's decently large so you can spend a couple of hours relaxing and exploring without getting bored.

Yelp
I spent the day here, parked in the sunshine so the solar panels on the roof could pull in some power and working from my wifi hotspot in the van. Hampton Park is the largest park in Charleston - around 61 acres - and between calls, I took a nice walk around the central lake. Lots of significance here. The park is named in honor of Confederate general Wade Hampton who owned one of the largest collections of slaves in the South. And during the close of the Civil War, the park was used as a prisoner-of-war camp. The roadway into the park is named Mary Murray Boulevard after the wife of Charleston philanthropist Andrew Buist Murray who funded the roadway that is atop the original horse-racing oval. Yes, this used to be a horse racing track! Several monuments and memorials in the park. You'll need to seek those out on your own. It's a great walking park with a simple oval loop (the former horse track) and lots of greenery to look at. The fountain is beautiful and a regular photo op. [Review 19457 overall - 1031 in South Carolina - 427 of 2023.]

Yelp
Early morning run with a friend who saw me running on Strava and invited me here. Nice one mile loop and a few soft surface paths inside the park as well. There are two parking lots. Make sure you know which one you are meeting your guests at. It was dark when I ran so didn't spend much more than an hour here.

Yelp
Really cute little park in the downtown area of Charleston. I wouldn't say it's the top of the tourist sites list for those visiting on a short timeline but if you have some extra hours or if you're a local and want a nice place away from the "city" scenery this is a cute spot. I stopped by Huriyali for lunch, just a couple blocks over, and walked over after to look at the variety of plants, fountains, gazebo, statues and so on. It was a beautiful walk around I definitely could have spent more time enjoying with a book or audio podcast. I came around the end of Summer early Fall time period and everything was still lush and green, with plenty of hanging Spanish moss to go around. I would recommend all kids and adults wearing shoes in this park as there were tons of poopies from dogs and geese all over. The worst area was around the big fountain/pond where the bridge goes over the water. That was the geese's layer. The rest of the pathways are well kept and clear. Give yourself 30-45 minutes to explore if you want the full experience and bring your camera!

Yelp
Nice park that was pretty kept up, good for a walk or whatnot on the various paths/trails. Parking is on either side of the loop that surrounds the park. Some water features including a little island make for a nice visit. I think the plants are better at other places like Colonial Lake, but I think the trees are much nicer here. Do a once around driving to get your bearings and see what it offers and then park (for free) in the two lots and check it out.

Yelp
I was introduced to beautiful Hampton Park recently when I participated in an MUSC 5k for heart health. It's a large public park located on the outskirts of downtown. I was so glad to discover this gem tucked away from the hustle & bustle of downtown . First off , they offer a small parking lot plus street parking . They have lots of safe running trails and most important beautiful scenery! The flowers are beautiful and there are lots of photo opps here for prom, wedding or any special occasion. You will also appreciate the drinking fountain, picnic tables, playground and restrooms found at the park. Seems like a great place to take your pup as well . There are trash cans set up inside the park to dispose of any waste bags from your pup. I told my mom about going here and she informed me that Hampton Park was the site of a horse race track in the 1800s. Pretty cool. I'll be back !

Yelp
It was a pretty space, with Spanish Moss and a pond among some serpentine paths. There weren't a ton of benches and the ones I found to eat at were a bit overgrown. Other amenities weren't present that I could see (perhaps deferred to the neighboring institution). It was a nice bit of green, but not as nice as being on the water.

Yelp
I really love Hampton Park! Downtown being so historic means that there's not a lot of large space for big open areas and greenery but Hampton Park is that spot! While Charleston has plenty of little greenery and historic small parks, Hampton park offers a space where you can get a good walk in and while seeing some lovely greenery. It's a great spot for hanging up a hammock in between some trees and enjoying the outdoors as well.

Evan G.

Yelp
Hampton Park is one of my favorite parks and places to visit in Charleston. This park has so much to offer and see that every time you visit you can see something new that you did not notice before. There is plenty of space and room to move around from all sides of the park and enjoy it. The park is very well maintained and and landscaped with so many flowers, plants, and big trees to climb on that you can look around and really take everything in. This park is perfect for a picnic or just taking a quiet moment to relax and reflect. I have been coming to this park from ever since I could remember and it seems to get better and better each year with constant improvements and good additions.

Yelp
A beautiful park for walking, strolling, or biking. Lots of flora and fauna to admire and take pictures of for your Instagram page. Various statues and gazebos to admire. Fountain in the middle is also very picturesque. As a note, if you bring food and plan on eating it at the picnic tables, expect that you will be stalked by geese, ducks, and other fowl creatures. They are vicious! We witnessed one big fight between those geese of Canada that I'm pretty sure ended up on SnapChat. Anyway, a really beautiful park with lots of history, located right next to The Citadel.

Yelp
It has been years since I have been to Hampton Park. I ate at a restaurant nearby with a few friends so we decided to take a walk to the park. I had forgotten how pretty it is and all of the trails that it offers to walk. It was a nice day so several people were out there jogging, riding bikes, walking with their kids and walking their dogs. It was a nice family feeling environment. The houses around the peripheral of the park are very nice. It is a great place to take a nice walk. There's a huge fountain in the center with a lot of Canadian geese. The walkway and bridge around it are very cool but you have to watch out for the landmines that the Canadian geese leave. One of my friends has lived here for over 20 years and didn't know about this park. She's very excited to bring her family when they come to visit next month. It's very beautiful and it's free!!

Yelp
Hampton park is incredibly gorgeous! The grounds are so well maintained and it is so peaceful to walk here. They have an inner loop which is more of a mature walk, and an outer loop which is paved and better for running/roller skating/biking. They also have plenty of grassy areas for picnics or play - I feel like I've seen everything here from soccer, cheer practice, karate and even photo shoots! In the center there is a beautiful pond full of birds. It truly is a unique and gorgeous place

Kurt K.

Yelp
This is a lovely park on the peninsula that has a running trail and a some very well maintained open spaces. The gazebos are nice and the number of benches and parking were adequate and well placed. The only thing that was a nuisance was the geese. They pooped on every flat surface and near the water. The ducks and the geese are not afraid of people and that is a concern. The homeless people sleeping in the park were a safety concern so beware.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to hang out in Charleston! they have a great walking path with exercise equipment along the way, but mostly I just like to stroll along the pond and look at all of the flowers. And now that there's a lot of food / drink options within walking distance, it makes it a great place to hang out and enjoy and afternoon before grabbing dinner or a beer after work.

Lee D.

Yelp
If you are looking for a beautiful park for a picnic, bike, run, walk, or stroll with or without your dog, look no further than Hampton Park in the historical district of Charleston. The grounds are well kept, restrooms are clean, and there are picnic tables scattered throughout the park, many in the shade of huge trees (which I imagine would be very nice in summer months). Nice walking paths and beautiful azaleas, which were in full bloom at the beginning of spring. It is also the site of the first Memorial Day parade. Just watch out for the hungry ducks and geese!

Bronwen B.

Yelp
This park is such a beautiful place, and I love the new upgrades that they have done on one of the gazebos. It's the perfect place to walk, run, or just sit and read. There are many shaded areas so during the summer heat, you can sit in the shade. I'm a member of a running group that meets here twice a week for some pretty tough workouts. I sometimes dread coming here because I'm tired or not in the mood for the workout, but once I'm finished, I feel so much better and I can actually enjoy my surroundings. You'll also see a lot of photo shoots here during the spring time since it is always beautiful in the spring.

Claudia E.

Yelp
Nice place for a walk... Beautiful garden with a nice fountain with ducks to feet... I got a nice time there with my girlfriend.

Bradley K.

Yelp
I love Hampton Park and so does my best friend Hank. Anytime the weather is slightly nice we go out of our way to enjoy a nice walk in the park and around Colonial Lake. Hank enjoys staring and chasing all the geese he possibly can away, no geese were harmed.. I love the fitness trail and occasionally when I can't get to the gym I'll take a walk or run around the trail and get a workout in on the installed equipment. The park also has a great track to run around but obviously looking at ma bod you won't be catching me running on that one! Definitely one of my favorite places in Charleston to chill, hang, relax and exercise.

Amy A.

Yelp
The views in this park are beautiful! There are gorgeous flowers and live geese wandering the park. It is a great location to take a walk through historic Charleston, or to take a jog to get a little exercise on your vacation. For locals in Charleston, it is a great location to get a good, free workout. At the park, the have many paths for you to jog, run, or walk. Along the path there are exercise stations. You can stop at each station to build muscle with body weight exercises. If I lived here, I would definitely be taking advantage of an affordable workout with a view!

Panayota E.

Yelp
Gorgeous gardens in the spring!! Love everything about this park! Perfect for picnics, dog walks, jogging, flower exploring, taking photos etc. very peaceful

Pamela K.

Yelp
I love spending time walking around this beautiful park with my boyfriend and our dogs! There's so many different paths to walk around through gardens and fountains or even work out tracks. This park has the prettiest ponds in the center where ducks love to swim around and people are always outside laying in the sun or playing music. It's a great place to spend and afternoon enjoying the spring weather!
