"A 13-mile section of Vietnam 's National Route 1A between Da Nang and Hue, the Hai Van Pass might be short in distance, but it’s long on views. Rising up and down the Truong Son range, and with a name that translates to "Ocean Cloud" Pass, the road travels through an area freighted with historical and meteorological significance—it once formed the border between the ancient Dai Viet and Champa kingdoms, and still divides the weather patterns of south and north Vietnam . The pass was often crowded with traffic for years, but a tunnel that opened nearby in 2005 drew away many of the cars and trucks, making it relatively tranquil these days. Expect coastal vistas that will leave you speechless."

If you’re in Hue, rent a scooter and ride the Hai Van Pass to Da Nang or Hoi An. The road has amazing views of the ocean and mountains the whole way. You can even see the train running along the water and through the mountains. There are many great spots to stop for photos and enjoy the scenery.

Pretty short but very sweet ride. After a lot of scooters in se Asia I rented a motorcycle which was great. Nothing special on the way up from da nang and so many petrol tankers spoiling the ride but from the top it’s a gorgeous view down to the beach at Lang Co and continues to improve on the way down. Highly recommended whatever mode of transport you chose

Beautiful vantage point and amazing natural sight. I rode a scooter there but you could also drive there. The roads are nice and windy with a few straights. I stopped by at a coffee shop to admire the views. You could continue further for more views down the hill and I would recommend it if you had additional time on your schedule.

Such a scenic ride. I would recommend doing it unguided, also doable for beginners cause good road conditions.

The pass road is quite beautiful in Da Nang, there are many coffee shops with a very beautiful view, if the time is right, you can hunt for clouds, the sunrise is very beautiful.

One of the most beautiful roads I have seen. I heard many ask if it’s safe or can ride with the automatic transmission, you absolutely can and it’s not as dangerous as it looks from the photos. If you don’t have much experience you can just drive slower and take longer angles. The ride is definitely worth it in any weather. Have been here several times and it was always great. You can find various cafes on the way and enjoy the views. The road at the start (if you come from Da Nang) is being a bit dusty due to the nearby construction but very soon it ends and you get to ride pretty normal road. Safe driving ✌️
