A great and full culinary experience. We came here on our last night in Iceland to experience the different foods. And we were not disappointed. They had an interesting menu. We had the Reindeer Mini Burgers, Grilled Puffin, Horse Tataki and Grilled Whale Steak. Presentation was inviting and the flavor’s were amazing with a well crafted dishes. If you come here as a party of two be prepared to possibly sit next to or close to other people. The more private seats/booths were for parties of 4. That was my only disappointment. This restaurant is tucked away on a side street in the heart of downtown and you can easily walked past it. The inside was with low lighting and with a welcoming atmosphere and a well-designed space. The food came out quick, so if you prefer to enjoy one appetizer at a time you will need to let them know, or everything will be bought out at one time. This place gets crowded so I would make sure to book in advance.

Our first dinner in Reykjavik was here. As it’s a grill restaurant quite a fair bit of food is grilled. We had the whale, puffin, reindeer meat and a crispy duck salad. For me the best is the whale which was grilled just right - medium rare. Puffin is definitely not my favorite. Overall it’s a good first dinner in Iceland.

Atmosphere and service were great here, but I felt like the food left a lot to be desired. I might be critical since this was ranked some of the top food spots in Iceland. You can see from the pictures that they really want to sell the atmosphere. Warm lighting, fancy light fixtures, decorations, and overall a very elevated vibe. All of the workers are also very friendly and love to put on a smile to make you feel welcome. We got the tasting menu, which was a five-course meal for a hefty price of 13k Krones. I will say they did nail the presentation for all of the courses. Some of the dishes, like the lamb were quite nice, but some like the lobster and arctic char didn’t taste as good as they looked. To be cut and dry, I think the best dish was the dessert and was the only one that really stood out. The others weren’t bad necessarily, but were less tasty than other restaurants that I have tried around Iceland. For example, the lobster had a nice crust but I didn’t really taste much of the lobster itself. The arctic char tasted sort of like ham, which was interesting but not mind-blowing. The whale had an ok sauce but wasn’t really any special besides from the presentation. Your experience might vary as I’m sure their menu changes. I just think that overall they are selling the experience and presentation rather than the taste. As much as presentation is wonderful, I would love for the food to be top notch as well.

It was truly an unforgettable dining experience. The restaurant’s unique atmosphere stood out immediately—the real trees integrated into the decor create a warm, natural ambiance that makes you feel like you’re dining in a forest retreat. The food was absolutely perfect. I had the lamb chops, which were tender, full of flavor, and cooked to perfection. For dessert, I enjoyed their After Eight, which was a delightful and creative twist that perfectly balanced richness with a refreshing minty finish. The setup was ideal for our group of 12; the seating was well-arranged, comfortable, and conducive to easy conversation. The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who ensured everything ran smoothly without being intrusive. Grillmarket is an outstanding choice for a memorable group dinner, combining fantastic food, cozy atmosphere, and excellent service. Highly recommended!

An incredible dinner. We chose the chefs tasting menu to celebrate our dad’s birthday. The staff were superb and took great care of us - and the food was exceptional. Every course was incredible. We almost went back the following night!

A nice looking restaurant inside that is hidden away off the street,down a small lane and behind a building (just use google directions). This restaurant has Whale and Puffin on the menu...which is not for everyone. The Lamb is an alternate choice. Lamb was ordered along with Duck spring rolls (tiny rolls), coffees, beers and Olives. All food and drink was delicious! The prices are in line with the dining experience and reputation of the restaurant. Happy to have eaten here and a recommended stop for you eat here.

One of the few places that offers whale, puffin, reindeer, and horse while traveling in Iceland. Very nice restaurant. We went to just try each of the Icelandic foods and everyone was very happy. Went for appetizers and then went somewhere else for dinner. Highly recommended for travelers looking to try the best of whale, puffin, reindeer, and horse.
