Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro

The hotel is nice, and it is right on the beach. My room (623) had a nice view of the pool and the ocean. The hotel has a dedicated beach area with lounge chairs and umbrellas. You can get towels at the pool area before you head over to the beach. The surf is rough right there, but just a few steps gets you to a more accessible entry point. The hotel staff are attentive, and the concierges are very knowledgeable. You have to Uber or Taxi to good restaurants outside of the hotel, but the cost of a ride is negligible. The little boat ride up the lagoon that is included in the resort fee is interesting (go on a sunny day!). If you are looking for some quick, easy gifts (think T-Shirts and such) take a trip to Copacabana and visit the night markets on the beach. Super affordable. (Make sure to get some Reais at the ATM on the Spa floor before you go.)||I had a fantastic massage while I was there. It was so good, I went back for another before leaving, but my #2 massage therapist was not so great.

This was our first trip in Rio, I initially booked another chain hotel on Copacabana beach but reconsidered reading its reviews about being too noisy. In the same time Grand Hyatt reviews mentioned about the more quiet location with the great views of the lagune so we chose to go there. Grand Hyatt exceeded our expectation from the very initial experience at check in including early availability of the room through exceptional service in the Club Lounge with amazing food and drinks to awesome massage therapy in the Spa ending with accommodating the late checkout and in general exceptional treatment from all the hotel personnel. If you want to be in a place you want to relax and receive great service I highly recommend this hotel!

We stayed for business in the Hyatt Rio at the end of October 2024. The staff was very pleasant and the service very good. Rooms were clean and room service was done every day, which is not common anymore. The food in the restaurants was good and they had a wide variety of national and international dishes. The service in the bar was excellent and the staff very professional. They remembered our preferences and the cocktails were delicious. I can recommend this hotel.

Suite was big and beautiful with a double twin room that connected for our kids. Grand Club was fantastic - great breakfast, great light dinner fare, always had hot pão de queijo. Downsides were no bottles of water given for Globalist status, had tv problems that were never fixed so kids’ tv didn’t work. Also, hotel sits on a beautiful beach with lagoon behind. ||Downside is there is an airport directly north of hotel, and all small planes and helicopters runways have them fly over the hotel after take-off. Lots of air traffic noise and road noise when at the pool. ||Pool is still wonderful and beautiful, and very close to the beach. Overall we had a wonderful trip. We also really enjoyed the lagoon tour with the biologist.||The hotel is not geared towards kids, but they still had a great time. Will definitely stay again.

I have rated this at 4, but 4.5 would be about right.|Seems a very new hotel, finished stylishly. The rooms are modern and spacious and the pool area is pleasant, but the best bit is the beach. In fact it is on the other side of the road, but the Hyatt area has sunbeds and parasols and is monitored. There is the occassional guy sellig trinkets but there was never any hassle at all. Get your towels before crossing the road - it's all very organised. |The public spaces are grand, but rather empty, and there seems to be a long way to go to get to anything|We stayed in a club level room. The Clubroom itself was a bit sparse and needs an Interior Designer to do a makeover, but the food and the service were excellent.|It is some way out of Rio, and is really a resort hotel on a beach. We had a few days in Rio to start with and then came here for some R&R and that worked well.

Great compact resort with great dining options and a great beach. Staff was amazing, we have really enjoyed every aspect of our 4 night stay. The largest mall in Rio is a short ride away. Highly recommended for a family stay, altough we noticed there were quite a few business travelers as well. ||It exceeded our expectations as we should enjoy a quite resort with the city not too far away

This hotel is fantastic, really modern, the decoration everywhere is stunning. The location is great, very close to the beach(even though a bit far from city center), the service is amazing, the bfast was extremely good, loads of choice and good quality. I went there with my family and the kids loved it.

We absolutely loved our time at the Grand Hyatt Rio. The staff are very friendly and professional and always went out of their way to take care of us. Our suite, 711 on the Club Lounge floor, was amazing. An ocean view and separate soaking tub and shower, and access to the Club Lounge for Breakfast and Cocktail/Supper. The food was delicious and generous and again, the service was amazing. Keep in mind that it is a bit of a drive to Copacabana and Ipanema and other sites in Rio, but the location could not be better. And the beach is beautiful. We would definitely stay here again.

If you go to Barra da Tijuca, you MUsT stay at the Grand Hyatt!! It is THE best hotel, with a resort feel! There are quite a few restaurants on the premises and they are not far from a variety of offsite restaurants and establishments. The rooms are absolutely amazing and super comfortable! They have electronic black out shades to keep the room completely dark, which was a great feature! Inside the hotel, they also have two pools, a spa, fitness center, etc. The food and staff are truly top-notch! The entire place is amazing and you will not regret staying here! Don't miss out on staying at this awesome hotel/resort!

This was the scenario of the fantastic wedding of a couple of friends from San Francisco: the bride carioca, the groom Italian. They choose this hotel for the convenience of having us all in various hotels from Barra da Tijuca and for the easy access, beautiful grounds and fantastic service. Stellar service and hotel is modern looking and well taken care of. The pool area is chic and cozy and we all had a great time. Very recommendable for weddings.

Very well located hotel with wonderful staff. Feijoada on Saturdays and brunch on Sundays are a treat with a live band always.

Pros: Good Wi-Fi Pool Gym Located Across the beach Cons: Too far from tourist spots Customer service was spotty with everything except the concierge Arrived via taxi from the airport. Check In was ok. They were a tad bit slow. The hotel itself is beautiful and clean. It looks very modern and up to par with grand hyatt standards The room: spacious with a nice balcony. We had a partial view of the beach. There's construction going on and there's a big building the blocks the view. We asked for a rollaway bed and it was there when we arrived. The beds and pillows were comfortable. The restroom is a bit odd. It has a huge, heavy door that you must slide back and forth when you have to go the bathroom or shower. It's very big, but I think it would have been nicer to have a door that shuts the toilet area off. The toiletries were the best. I loved the lavender scent and they weren't skimpy with them. The shower water pressure was adequate. I can't say the same about the sink water pressure. Sometimes it was a drip and sometimes a slow stream, but it always took forever to wash your hands. The mini bar has beer, water and soda. They have a nespresso machine and a tea kettle. I was very surprised they only gave us one mug to share between three of us while we were there. The pool was great. It's big and spacious. There's plenty of lounge chairs. They have waiter service. Pool towels are offered. There's a door that leads to the beach by the pool area. You need your key card to get in and out. Extras: - We waited 20 minutes for ice and it never came. No Ice machines available. - an iron and blow dryer are available in the room - the gym was excellent. Plenty of machines and treadmills. They offer towels and water. - a safe is available in the Room - the concierge was awesome. They helped me set up my driver and tour guide for day 1. Then they helped me buy train tickets to Christ the Redeemer. - If you want a snack or drink, they have a 24 hour store on the first floor. Do expect hotel prices. - we used Uber for everything since everything is so far away - they have Lounge chairs at the beach. They also have water available for you.

A really great hotel with a friendly and supportive staff. The hotel is new and modern and even during a covid lock down the staff made sure we felt a minimal impact. They also do a good job taking care of their elites and special thanks to Denise and Felipe for taking such care of us! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I stayed here in September and had a very nice time. The hotel is new in appearance but breaking down in many places. That being said, the staff was exceptional and went out of their way to solve problems (like my phone not working). I saw some reviews of the construction and out of the way location but I enjoy it being a little less crowded and the are a little less run down like Copacabana beach. I stayed elsewhere in my December trip but likely will be back to the Grand Hyatt the next one. Full disclosure, I was in a Oceanfront Suite in both and the room and balcony were very large. If it didn't have as many flaws as it has from wear and tear, I would have given it five stars for price and service. And a note to anyone, service is never fast in Rio. I recently stayed at the Fairmont Copacabana (doesn't exist on yelp) and it was more expensive. Copacabana isn't a great location and its spot on it is very loud with the historic port in front. The rooms were much smaller even at 50% more expensive and the food was very average.

I have been to Rio de Janeiro over ten times, I love the city and lately I have been choosing Barra da Tijuca to stay. It is quieter, the beaches are broader and bigger, and the sea is much nicer than in Copacabana, Ipanema or Leblon. Barra da Tijuca is perfect for families or people looking to rest and/or piece and quiet. This is the first time we stayed at the Grand Hyatt, as it is pretty new. The facilities and the staff were great. The hotel is very modern, with clean and spacious rooms, great bathroom, shower and tub. Wifi connection is great, the pool is very nice, and it is right across from the beach. Breakfast is really really good.There are 3 very good restaurants in the hotel, a terrace that overlooks the city, all rooms have balconies. Ours was facing the pool and the ocean. The spa and the gym were really good too! They offer you bikes for free for an hour. Of course we already know our way around Rio by heart, but if you are looking to hang out in the heart of the city most of the time, keep in mind that it could take you anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour fifteen to get to Copacabana or Ipanema on public transportation, or 20/25 minutes if you rent a car or take an UBER, which by the way works perfectly in Rio. As far as restaurants around the area, you have a few good ones, but of course, not as many as in the heart of Rio (Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon). There are a couple of shopping malls about 7 minutes by UBER. Also, for the adventurers, there are a couple of beaches close to this area that are hidden gems in Rio... most tourists don't go there: PRAINHA and JOATINGA. So if you are looking for piece and quiet and to enjoy the beach staying in a great hotel, this is a great choice.

I don't even know what the bad reviews are for! This hotel is absolutely beautiful. I'm American and the room was only $44 USD a night and absolutely incredibly high standards. If this hotel was back in the states, it would be $500 a night easily. Stunning ocean views, the staff was very kind and accommodating, pool is gorgeous, hotel is massive and they have several great restaurants. The spa was WONDERFUL too. Highly recommend for any Americans visiting. Made my visit to rio an absolute DELIGHT!

This is the nicest hotel I have stayed at in my life and I stay in hotels as part of my occupation. The hospitality is incredible, personal and not at all automated as most hotels. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. With an ocean view room I left the door open all night and slept to the sounds of he ocean.

This was a FABULOUS experience! We wanted a great beach, and while a little far from Ipanema and Copacabana, Barra da Tijuca offered our favorite beach in Rio. Victor and the hotel staff, despite being a huge hotel, make us feel at home, and the room was OUTSTANDING, spacious, and beautiful. The fitness center was outstanding, and my only regret was not going to the spa. Don't be thrown off that this hotel in not in downtown Rio- the beach and amenities of the hotel are worth it for a perfect experience!

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. I waited at the pool for over an hour trying to order drinks, we asked the waiter for a menu over 10 times and never got one they kept saying they didn't speak English when I'm brazillian and speak fluent Portuguese. We asked for a bucket of beer and the waiter said they didn't have any left when 10 minutes later I saw at least 10 buckets walk past me. Since they didn't have any beer buckets I asked for the champagne menu and never got one so I got fed up and asked to speak to the manager I waited for over 30 minutes and he never showed up so I had to go to the lobby and speak to the manager. I spent 2 hours trying to get this resolved. I live in Florida where hospitality is a big deal and this was one of the worst hotels I've stayed at. I understand that it is New Year's Eve and they are busy but it's Rio de Janeiro and Hyatt a hotel with over 500 rooms should be equipped and ready to handle an influx of guest at the pool. If they can't service that many people maybe they shouldn't book all the rooms.I'm surely never staying here again. The manager of the hotel did a great job at helping us get situated and even gave us a bottle on the house. The only good thing A about this hotel was he manager.
