25 Best Things to Do in Istanbul

"A grande dame of Istanbul, Grand Hotel de Londres is a beautifully preserved building from the 1800s. It's all about opulence here, from the rich color palette and glittering chandeliers to plush wall-to-wall carpeting. The terrace bar is a favorite hangout for tourists and locals; there's often live music here, plus beautiful sunset views over the Golden Horn." - Travel + Leisure Editors

"Travel Back in Time The Grand Hotel de Londres (also known as Buyuk Londra) has been open for more than 100 years, and while its interior is immaculately kept, there’s something about it that is charmingly stuck in the past. You can imagineErnest Hemingway at the bar in 1922, reviewing notes for his story in the Toronto Daily Star . Wander through the lobby with its antique furniture, past the requisite portrait of Atatürk, to the tiny elevator that will take you up to the rooftop. The bar there is scenic without being a scene: no seasonal cocktails or artisanal ice cubes here, just a simple but serviceable menu and gorgeousviews of the Golden Horn and the Old City. If you can, try to arrive before sunset to hear the call to prayer echo throughout the streets, then descend the grand staircase back into the noisy nightlife of Pera."

This is one of my favorite places to have a drink in Beyoglu- the terrace is lovely and so is the bar on the main floor. They could use a bit more variety of drinks, and maybe some food? -it would be great if the terrace was open already on nice evenings!! (March now.... it usually opens in May I think?) So much history and amazing decor. I hear it's even haunted...

Stepping into the Grand Hotel de Londres in Istanbul feels like taking a step back in time. The elegant decor and antique furnishings transport you to a bygone era of romance and luxury. Every corner of the hotel is filled with history and charm, making it the perfect place to immerse yourself in the rich culture of Istanbul. Amazing staff and romantic ambiance made our stay unforgettable! This hotel is extremely photogenic. We witnessed numerous wedding photo sessions conducted there during our stay and couldn't resist inviting a professional photographer to take some photos for a good memory as well :)

The old world's charm. Really enjoyed staying here, the room had a view of Golden Horn (and the sunsets from the rooftop terrace were breathtaking). Staff extremely helpful, best Turkish coffee served by the barman. Areas for improvement: furniture, showers, breakfast. This historic hotel could use a face-lift. It's precious.

This was my second visit here, and unfortunately, it will be my last. Our experience with the rooftop staff was extremely disappointing. We had both a local Turkish speaker and an English speaker in our group, but when we tried to order an ashtray and place a coffee and tea order at the bar, we were ignored. One staff member who clearly understood English chose to turn away and speak to the person next to him, while three others behind the bar went back to their phones. When I finally managed to get someone’s attention, I was rudely told to order a beer, with no explanation of what else was available. Frustrated, our group of 15 decided to leave. The place may look nice but the service sure is lacking!

I love this place - the quirkiest hotel in Istanbul; huge rooms, daft decor, friendly staff and an excellent rooftop bar on two levels.|On this visit we were staying elsewhere, but we made sure to visit the roof bar.|As the sun sets, it's magical. The lights start flickering on, the sky turns into a rich mix of reds, oranges and blues, and the cocktails just slip down.

Built in 1892, this hotel is quite interesting. I felt like I was still living in the times of the Ottoman Empire, with the rooms decorated so beautifully, and the common areas splendidly adorned. But, admittedly, it does need a lot of updating, with tired-looking furnishings. Nevertheless, I still give it a 4 star. Staff was efficient. Location was good for exploring Istiklal, the famous pedestrian street. Trams and funicular were close by. Wonderful restaurants in the area abound. Rooftop bar is very nice.

This place was great. The architecture and furnishings are historical and romantic. My room was lovely and had a panoramic view of the Golden Horn. The concierge and staff were very kind and helpful. Bonus: friendly, pampered pet parrot in the lobby and several more on the roof terrace! This hotel has lots of style, character, and comfort at a very reasonable price! Would definitely book in here again!

The room is very small, the bathroom was not really clean and it was dirty on the floor, the air conditioning doesnt work that good , I put it at max and it still wasnt giving much air. The breakfast is poor of food , it doesnt really have variations at all, and the food quality is questionable.

Yelp
I give it 5 stars without hesitation because it still has genuine old world charm and character. We had the room that Hemingway stayed in, fantastic view and a big comfortable bed. A few things may have been dated and I couldn't care less... I don't travel to spend time in a hotel room. Everything here was exactly what we needed and I would stay again in a New York minute.

Yelp
I wouldn't stay here again if you paid me. (Reality: maybe if you paid me a lot). I shared a room with two people I knew; it was a triple with a double bed and a single bed. The problems literally began at the door. The door could only be locked from either side with a single key. This meant that if we were not together as a group, the door had to be unlocked or the person had to come to open the door. The door looked like it also be kicked in with ease - with the door locked, I could push the door open an inch or two away from the frame. The toilet seat cover was broken and was only placed on top of the toilet. The bathroom door did not lock. There was only occasionally hot water. The trashcan's step-to-open pedal did not work. The curtains were almost sheer and did not block out any of the lights from the street. The worst thing, however, was the mosquitoes. Our room was filled with them. Over three nights, I got about ten bites, and this is with sleeping with socks, sweats, a hoodie (with the hood up!). I changed my mind, I wouldn't stay here again even if you paid me.
