"A huge dolomite rock rising up from Hotel Gellért at its base marks one of the earliest inhabited parts of Budapest . The citadel atop the hill was built by the Austrians in the mid-1800s to better control the unruly Hungarians after squashing the revolution (it was later used by German SS troops in World War II). Other monuments dot the verdant landscape atop the hill, which is now surrounded by posh residences. The walk up from the hotel is steep but worth it for the view once on high."

The hike is totally worth it, since the view is amazing! Budapest is very beautiful especially during autumn!

The view from the top is very beautiful. You can see the Danube and some of the bridges that connect the city. It’s not very hard the walk all the way up and you can take breaks along the way. There are also some benches where you can sit down and relax. If you visit the city I think you also need to go and explore this place. Unfortunately the top area where the statue is located is closed due to renovation and you can’t go there

Nice view but the Citadella is cordoned off. There's no sign informing people about the closure 😒

It has been completely locked down from all directions. I understand they’re sorting out a huge building project, but at least the pavements should be available. Not much sign, apart from the road signs, so if someone walks up there that would be a huge disappointment. On the other hand, the last available terrace is big enough to see the river banks and the main tourist attractions from bird views. Budapest is beautiful, no matter what. Hope they did this road and building works for a more amazing outcome.

This is my favourite spot in Budapest. Plenty of space to walk and there is a bit of a hike up and down, but it's worthy. Amazing views from the top, especially in the evening and at night. Unfortunately, some parts of the Citadella were closed, so we were not able to visit but enjoyed everything around that.

Climbing Gellért Hill was a fantastic experience. While clear directions beforehand would have been helpful, the well-maintained stairs provided good support during the ascent. The stunning city views - the Elizabeth Bridge, the Danube River - kept me motivated the whole way. Reaching the summit, including the Citadella, was incredibly rewarding. The fresh air and panoramic view, with clouds adding to the beauty, made the climb absolutely worth it. The descent was much easier and quicker. Highly recommend Gellért Hill for any Budapest visitor seeking a challenge! Just remember to bring water for the climb😊
