Gallow Green, perched atop the McKittrick Hotel, boasts a lush rooftop garden and inventive cocktails, perfect for cozy gatherings or brunch with an incredible view.
"This laid-back rooftop bar and restaurant on top of the McKittrick Hotel has some quality shrubbery and plenty of places to sit. It’s also one of your best drinking options in Chelsea (especially when you want to hang outdoors), and you can eat a full meal here. The menu changes seasonally, but might include tacos, falafel, or snow crab claws." - neha talreja, bryan kim, carina finn koeppicus, hannah albertine
"If you want to spend your whole day outside, you could always head to the Frying Pan or grab a drink at Le Bain after you call it quits on the High Line. But if you go to one of those spots, an intern will probably spill a vodka soda on you. So try Gallow Green, the bar and restaurant on top of The McKittrick Hotel. It's one of the more civilized rooftops around, and you can easily make a reservation. Drink some frosé and eat a cheeseburger or some calamari on the big, leafy outdoor patio." - bryan kim, carina finn koeppicus
"Feeling like you need even more greenery? Make your way to Gallow Green, a bar that sits on top of the McKittrick Hotel at 542 W 27th Street. The secret garden oasis will totally transport you to another place and time but don't worry, you can always anchor yourself back in the reality of New York just by looking over the edge to see the skyline. The bar offers a rotating seasonal menu, but you can count on drinks like the Northern Lights, made with tequila, pomegranate, lime, and soda." - Stacey Leasca
"We love The High Line - but so do tourists. If your friend wants to check it out, go to the northernmost entrance then point out the McKittrick Hotel. Tell them it’s the place that does Sleep No More, and that there’s a bar on top called Gallow Green. Then ask (and the phrasing’s important) if they’d rather join the sweaty human centipede that is the High Line or get a drink on a shady rooftop." - bryan kim
"The rooftop of The McKittrick Hotel, where “Sleep No More” takes place, is something of an extension of the nightly interactive performance/high-minded haunted house that takes place throughout the rest of the building. This means you’ll ride up in an old timey elevator with an attendant in some kind of costume, who may or may not do a card trick, and some “characters” may walk around. But for the most part, this is just a cool rooftop bar with quality cocktails." - katherine lewin, hillary reinsberg
