"Fuglen Tokyo crosses hipster chic with Nordic charm. There are two entrances to the small corner cafe furnished entirely in mid-century Norwegian design. The overall effect makes Fuglen Tokyo feel as much a fashionable modern home or antique store as a cafe and bar, which makes sense given that every item in the store is for sale." - Davey Young

Fuglen is a beautiful, welcoming cafe with stylish decor and a cozy atmosphere. There’s plenty of seating, though it does fill up quickly, making it a great spot for coffee, breakfast, or getting some work done. The daily drip coffee was excellent, and the service was warm and friendly. However, the food service was a bit slow. I ordered the sourdough with smoked salmon and cream cheese, which was delicious but took roughly 30 minutes to be ready. The portion was in my opinion small for the price at ¥1700. Coffee was reasonably priced at ¥550 for a large, with an additional ¥260 for a refill. Overall, it’s a lovely place to relax, but be prepared for a bit of a wait if you’re ordering food.

Good coffee with really great vibes! 💃 Fulgen Tokyo is always bustling with people so I was very happy when I was able to get a seat inside! Even though I came during a weekday, it was still quite busy but not as much as if you visit on a weekend. I ordered a hot single shot cafe latte ☕️ Although the latte was definitely good, I felt the single shot was a bit too light for my tastes so next time I'll definitely be ordering a double shot instead 😋 However, I think the main reason why I enjoyed my visit is because of the multicultural vibes of the cafe. I not only mean this because there was a good mix of locals and foreigners but also because the staff seemed to be very international as well! In short, it was fun getting to immerse myself in such an international environment where you could tell everyone including the staff is having a great time 🥰 The staff themselves were also very friendly and I could tell they liked interacting with the customers 🤩 I also really loved the interior of the cafe. Despite being quite busy, it still managed to feel very cozy. The cafe is particularly beautiful during the sunset hours with the golden hour sun illuminating the area 🌅

This was my first time here and I really loved the ambiance, the cool coffee shop design, and of course, the coffee was absolutely delicious. If I ever come to Tokyo again, I’ll definitely stop by. Wishing continued success to Fuglen Coffee!

Delicious drinks with a fun atmosphere! My friend and I stopped in on a Saturday and had a few of the coffee cocktails which were fantastic, and the bartenders were so friendly and even grabbed us an extra seat to be at the bar. Highly recommend the Black Rose and Adult Coffee cocktails 🍸 👌

Incredible coffee, great pastries, and amazing service. The atmosphere is also very nice and calming. I was happy that it opened early as well.

I first visited this place in 2018, and now, in November 2024, I decided to stop by again. The location is very convenient, just a 21-minute walk from Shibuya Crossing. The interior has a vintage style, creating a cozy atmosphere perfect for hanging out and enjoying a cup of coffee. The vibe is relaxing and ideal for unwinding. The prices are very reasonable. They seem to consistently use a single origin—Brazil—with a medium roast profile. The taste is excellent, making it a great choice for true coffee lovers. Highly recommended to visit and try!

Google
Great place to get coffee either dining in or takeaway. Interior has the feels of an old school European hut in the mountains. Staff was warm and friendly in greeting you as well. Coffee tastes great, 580Y for single shot latte. Do note if you opt for takeaway you can’t sit inside or outside the cafe either.

I love all Fuglen cafes, came here after experience in Oslo. Didn’t get disappointed! Highly recommend - great music, vintage vibe and overall atmosphere

Yelp
Cool cafe in what seems to be a hip neighbor. Coffee is actually really good. I came twice ordering a cappuccino each time. Quality was definitely better than at most cafes that I visit. Pricing was reasonable given the quality. There is a decent amount of seating although I don't believe that there is wifi. Also they require that each person orders a drink. Seemed to be predominantly tourists. Lots of people taking pictures.

Yelp
After a long jaunt around the neighborhood, came by here for a quick drink and respite from the heat. Despite it being early afternoon, there was a line to order from the counter (though still some seats around the bar). While the coffee was appealing, opted just for the beer. They had the "Rising Sun" ale from Baird Brewing in a bottle (¥910). Served chilled, good hoppy balance - great after a long walk. Inside never got too crowded despite the line and small space. There is some seating outside as well, which works since the area is pretty quiet. Quick turnaround and nice atmosphere, worth coming for drinks and snacks.

Yelp

Yelp
Finally able to try their coffee after bookmarking this place for 3 years. It's not located close to any JR or metro station, but it was a nice walk from Meiji Shrine and crossing a park. Anyhow, they specialize in espresso drinks and pour over (with kalita wave), we tried their Ethiopia bean and it was very well balance. We ended up buying a bag to take home. Seating is quite limited and it's always full, if you want to have the coffee at their cafe, each person needs to buy their own drink. So, 2 people in your group, buy 2 drinks. We ended up sitting right outside and it was very relaxing. Free wifi, just ask for the password.

Yelp
This is the coffee shop that reminds me that trendy coffee shops in Tokyo are generally tourist traps. The majority of the patrons here are from overseas I find. Real locals drink coffee out of a can from vending machines (like I often do) or imbibe dark roasts akin to cigarette ash at Doutour. Beautiful ambience but the coffee is forgettable. If you are here in Tokyo looking for very good pour over / filter coffee, I would head over to Onibus (also full of tourists but at least the coffee is good) Mind you, I haven't been here for the cocktails in the evenings, this is strictly about the coffee. It is a beautiful space, I will say that (though jammed with tourists like a sardine can, but I can't otherwise blame them)

Conor S.

Yelp
Coffee coffees coffee! Come here for coffee and a chance to slow down. It's a absolutely lovely here. Great coffee and a great relaxed space. I'd love to come here in the evening for a cocktail and some more relaxing.

Yelp
I heard about this place at a team dinner and figured I would check it out one afternoon. I arrived during more of what I would consider "coffee time" than "cocktail time," so I ordered a cardamom roll (like a cinnamon roll, but not) and a pour-over coffee (whatever the daily pour was). The cardamom roll was fresh and lightly spiced. Not overly sweet, but tasty. Maybe not the best I've had, but it was definitely not at all bad. The coffee had a nice depth of flavor and mouthfeel -- yeah, I get to use "mouthfeel" in a review -- because the coffee was not just brown water, but had a bit of texture (viscosity, maybe?) that was ever so slight, but it had some body. I was lucky to get a seat at the bar -- apparently, the place is *always* full and it is not very large. There were a lot of people sitting at tables, studying, reading, or just chilling out. It seems like that kind of place: a very relaxed place where people hang out. The cocktail menu looked interesting and I'll have to come back some time to partake in the "other side of the menu." It is near the Yoyogi-koen, although you can't see the park from the shop. That is the nearest subway station. It is on the Chiyoda Line.

Yelp
I randomly stumbled upon this place while walking around Shibuya. Great mix of coffee and cocktail drinks. The staff was very friendly and helpful in guiding me through the menu. They have indoor and outdoor seatings with a Norwegian designed interior. Makes for a good spot to hangout and relax a bit.

David G.

Yelp
I want to preface this review with an admission: I have no clue about Norway's coffee culture. None at all. But if Fuglen is any indication, a trip to the Nordic country might be worth it to any coffee lover. Fuglen is a coffee shop close to Yoyogi Koen station. It is a coffee shop/bar that sits a leisurely 5 minute walk away from the station. The shop sits between 20-25 people inside, with an additional 10-15 seats on the outside. The decor is spot-on and gives it a cozy feel, which lends well with a book and a hot cup of coffee (or whatever caffeinated beverage you order). The coffee itself is absolutely marvellous. It is prepared meticulously well and the beans are as fresh as they can be. There is a great variety of choices with seasonal options also available. The only drawbacks would be that there is absolutely no food option, which was surprising since they also serve alcohol at night (perhaps that's when the snack menu comes out?). Also, Fuglen seems to have a reputation which ensures there is always a steady inflow of customers. Be prepared to stand and wait for a seat to become available. Overall, Fuglen is a worthy and recommended stop for any coffee lover in Tokyo.

Yelp
Before posing the question "Why Norwegian coffee?" the more prudent question to ask is probably "Why not Norwegian coffee?" Norway is the great Scandinavian nation that has brought us the World Barista Championships, and along with it some of the most prominent names in coffee at the moment: Fritz Storm, Paul Bassett, Tim Wendelboe, Izaki Hidenori, and most recently Sasa Sestic all first made their name as winners of this hallowed competition. Fuglen proudly serves fresh roasted coffee from Tim Wendelboe's eponymous company alongside other varieties roasted by Fuglen's proprietary roasting company Fuglen Roasters on either aeropress or French press; they also have a pretty reputable espresso bar that I didn't arrive early enough for. As if you needed another reason to visit Fuglen, they also have a carefully-curated alcohol and cocktail selection with an award-winning mixologist on board who specializes in Akvavit-based cocktails for that extra Scandinavian touch. Oh and not that it matters too much, but Fuglen also has one of the most sophisticated and chic interiors I've ever seen in a Café.

Pete M.

Yelp
Fuglen takes its coffee very seriously and it shows. Best coffee I've had in Tokyo. Great ambiance too - like being in a mid century living room with soft lights and jazz music in the background. There's many coffee options to choose from, but I was thrilled with a simple cup of black coffee. There are a few good options plus a tray of pastries to snack on. I had a small sandwich of lox, cream cheese and dill on rye. The coffee and sandwich totaled about 1100 yen. It's not really any more expensive than many of the other coffee shops. What really puts this place over the top is that a night it becomes a cocktail bar! The cocktail list isn't extensive, but I watched the two bartenders meticulously put together several drinks and it's clear they take the booze as seriously as the coffee.

Yuria H.

Yelp
A nice chill cafe for some serious coffee. I'm no coffee connoisseur so I don't know how to describe it, but I can tell you it's absolutely epic and you should try it. Place serves coffee cocktails in the evening, and you can bring in your own food, which is pretty convenient. Moderately crowded on weekends and I never got the chance to sit at a table.

Linda T.

Yelp
Hipster coffee place with Cool outdoor seats and tables. It's pretty cramped and small inside. Got an Espresso shakerato, since it was so hot. Espresso was good, served slightly sweetened shaken in ice. Cool place if you are in the area!

Sterling H.

Yelp
Cocktails were absolutely delicious, staff is beyond friendly and accommodating. Coffee was served non stop the entire time I was at the bar drinking, will be coming back for my morning pick up. Atmosphere is very comfortable and chic, this place is a must to visit.

Jan W.

Yelp
Their chai latte and mocha are pristine. Some pastry options offered. They're quick to make your drink and accepts credit card

Max S.

Yelp
The perfect neighborhood coffee shop with free wifi and delicious coffee at a great price. This is really one of those spots that I would love to become a local at, because of their attention to detail, emphasis on quality of each cup rather than quantity of sales, the friendliness of the baristas there, and the excellent pricing. They have delicious baked goods as well, though they're a bit pricy. Fuglen also sells quality cocktails at night, so if you're looking for a hangout spot with both coffee/alcohol, Fuglen is your place. And while the Japanese tend to understand the term "cocktail" to be what America calls cheap mixed drinks, Fuglen's cocktails are the real deal. If you're looking for coffee in Shibuya, avoid a $6 mediocre cup and come to Tomigaya/Kamiyamacho where Fuglen is located - a more quiet, artist's alley / hipster neighborhood. I also have to say, this is the best "third place" I've found in Tokyo yet, and I've explored a ton of cafes. The decor and atmosphere are great, locals come and go, and the wifi doesn't cut out each hour - I could spend hours and hours here, except for the lack of power plugs.

Theodore W.

Yelp
Fantastic vibes. Hard to beat Norwegian roasting quality coffee. Excellent for late night hangout and enjoyment of a piece of quiet in the modern-traditional mix of Asakusa area.

Mathias H.

Yelp
Well, where do you go when you are visiting Tokyo as a Scandinavian? Of course to a Norwegian bar/café/furniture store. Actually we were in dire need of a coffee and I knew that Fuglen was in the area and I used to be a fan of their Oslo location so decided to give them a go here as well. They serve their own roasted coffee as well as occasionally some other Norwegian roasters. The coffee here is very good, among the better cups I had in Japan and clearly of good third wave coffee bar quality. They also serve nice cocktails with fresh ingredients. When we were there they also had a nice sake flight which included a variety of local artisanal sake. I am no expert on sake but we got a very good introduction and the sheer variations in flavor were amazing. The atmosphere is also a big part of the appeal here. The design and interior is pretty cool and the bit dark feel really fits well in the evenings where it is nice ti just linger here. Service was super friendly and knowledgeable.

Lia M.

Yelp
Amazing coffee, rich and delicious! I've had a cappuccino and a mocha here. Their pastries are not too sweet and the perfect texture and taste. The ambiance is both peaceful and groovy with good music and people quietly talking and reading books. Baristas are kind and some can speak English pretty well. A great place all in all to relax and have very good coffee.

Cal C.

Yelp
Really cool coffee ago that happened to be near our Airbnb place. It's quiet enough that people can come and read, but it's also trendy enough for people to come and hang out. The cinnamon frappe was ... interesting ... The croquet monsieur was good!!

Erika R.

Yelp
One of the best coffee shops in Tokyo. Again, a little over priced but good coffees and cappuccinos are these days. They're pastries are so so. Cool spot to hang out.

TJ A.

Yelp
I am not an authority on coffee, but I do have a lot of friends that are total relentless dicks about coffee and I wouldn't hesitate to bring them here. The espresso is awesome. Also, I've never written a review about a vibe before, but it's worth noting that this place has an excellent one- the decor, staff, etc. all so on point. Great spot.

Florentina N.

Yelp
Super love the ambiance, I like the cinnamon roll, which named different. It is like back to the 50s again, the kind of coffee shop I dreamt of!

Daniel C.

Yelp
Loved the coffee here! I had some sort of Norwegian roast for my Americano and it was delicious. Fantastic hints of berries in flavour. Great little pit stop to rest my feet after roaming Yoyogi Park and surrounding area. I doubt they make the pastries onsite but they were pretty fantastic nonetheless. I had a danish and croissant. The danish was sweet but not overpowering, and the croissant was deliciously buttery and flakey. The vibe inside is very laid back. Lots of mixed conversations in Japanese and English were happening around me. Was great to kick back and read some articles on my phone for an hour or so (good wifi). The staff is very friendly and had conversational English proficiency. I was told in the evening this location becomes an amazing cocktail bar. I didn't get a chance to see that but the person that suggested this place was on point for all the other recommendations he gave me so I would expect nothing less than good things for the cocktail bar.

Dan K.

Yelp
Excellent quality everything, though seating is limited. Great place to people watch and window shop for a new lifestyle.

Yelp
Prior to my trip to Japan, I have never heard of Fuglen. I first heard of it because Intersect by Lexus in Omotesando uses Fuglen and I had the best latte in my life there. So, I saw that there is an actual Fuglen Tokyo, and instinctively knew it would be absolutely delicious. And I just happened to be right. Got a single latte and it was perfect. Good temperature, creamy, and smooth. I put it a baby hair behind Intersect by Lexus, because the milk they at Intersect use gave it a nice sweetness. Their pastries are delicious and affordable. Staff is very kind and speak English. Not a whole bunch of searing but was able to snag a seat. Very cozy environment that was welcoming after walking around in the cold rain that plagued our entire trip.

Erik K.

Yelp
Excellent coffee shop and hangout spot!!! They have excellent coffee, knowledgeable baristas, and a fun vibe. Seating is limited, but there are a few tables outside, or you can get it to go. Wifi here is fast and reliable.

Kathy S.

Yelp
We cannot recommend this place highly enough! This place made us finally feel at home in Tokyo....friendly, cozy, delicious...everything you want your neighborhood coffee/late night nightcap place to be. Delicious lattes....scrumptious cardamom rolls....exquisite mixed drinks....super-friendly bartenders and baristas...beautifully appointed and welcoming. We visited here at least once daily after its discovery for the remainder of our trip. Thank you so much for being here, Fuglen Tokyo! Hope to visit you again.

Bhavya K.

Yelp
The coffee and croissants were absolutely perfect. The ambiance is great and the coffee shop has a very trendy feel to it. Should definitely be on a 'must-visit in Tokyo list' for coffee lovers.

Minecraft M.

Yelp
Great place just weird hot chocolate. I like it's very nice and cozy. Good breakfast.

Peter R.

Yelp
You are in for a treat. Amazing coffee, knowledgable staff, and great setting! One of the top cafes in Tokyo!

Michelle K.

Yelp
oh I love that place. one of those locations where you could stay and read on a rainy day. very friendly staff, great coffee and atmosphere. and compared to the other places we've been in Tokyo so far the prices are more than ok!

Hitoshi K.

Yelp
I visited them the morning. It was a little bit hard for me to find it, but it's worth to visit. Their Danish is really good. The staff is really nice and kind. The coffee was fine for me.
