"Compared with its pre- and post-Wall legacy of punks, anarchists, and squatters, today’s Friedrichshain is contrastively mellow and gentrified, brimming with bars, restaurants, and cafes. It does still carry an alternative edge here and there, especially around the dilapidated street-art hub Raw Gelände, notorious club spot Berghain, and Revaler Strasse, which is still home to squats and some grungy hangouts. But these days, it’s also home to young families and professionals, as well as artists and bohemians, who tend to gather around its primary square, Boxhagener Platz, on the weekends; Saturdays is a farmers’ food market, while Sundays, it hosts a flea market. Friedrichshain is also home to the historic Soviet-era boulevard Karl-Marx-Allee, the world-famous stretch of the Berlin Wall known as the East Side Gallery, and sprawling green space and summer hangout Volkspark Friedrichshain." - MATADOR_NETWORK

"Warschauer Strasse, Friedrichshain While living in Berlin , I stayed on Warschauer Strasse, on the end closest to the U-Bahn station of the same name. On an evening walk before dinner, I took a walk down the street to explore my new surroundings. This particular set of doors is the epitome of the neighborhood, to me. By Matt Opsahl"

Yelp
Friedrichshain is named after Volkspark Friedrichshain. The district was created in 1920. In the Nazi times it was called Horst-Wessel-Stadt. It's going through severe gentrification, but the community does its best to preserve F-stain unique vibe. Children friendly, pets friendly, vegan friendly, my Kiez forever!

Yelp
What a great area in Berlin. I'm glad we spent most of our time here while our hotel was city-center. Great train access, cheap meals, loads of interesting graffiti and a craft fair. There was a crowd of art, music, sports fans and an outdoor cocktail stand. Amazing.

Yelp
I love this area! Just great to spend time and see all the interesting people that are also very friendly. The best- weekend's market in boxhagener place and the brunches specials surrounding it. A pleasure.

Yelp
what can i say, this is my hood and i love it here. cheap rent, real people, and a lot of cheap eateries. central location for clubs if you live near the border, and you have U-bahn, S-bahn AND trams all within reach. when i lived in kreuzberg it was a pain to get home sometimes late at night because there was no tram service. i'm only docking 1 star due to the dog-poop issue. you all know what i'm talkin about.
