At this cozy Gowanus bakery, indulge in seasonal pies crafted by the Elsen sisters, where buttery crusts and unique flavors create pure pie magic.
"In many ways, Four & Twenty Blackbirds kicked off the New York pie renaissance with the opening of their Gowanus-based location in 2009. Since then, the shop has become a national icon, known for their seasonal pie rotations. For Thanksgiving, co-owner Melissa Elsen estimates that the in-demand bakery will make over 5,000 pies, many already spoken for between national and wholesale customers. Luckily, for New York locals, they are offering four of their greatest hits for pickup, salted caramel apple, brown-butter pumpkin, bittersweet chocolate pecan, and their unique salty honey, a fan favorite and Four & Twenty Blackbird original. Pre-orders are live now. Pies go for $45 and pick-up is available at the Gowanus shop from Sunday to Thursday November 28 at 3 p.m." - Eater Staff, John Tsung
"This excellent Gowanus pie shop is ready to sub in as your Thanksgiving pastry chef. The 10-inch pies are $44, and come in four varieties: salted caramel apple (their most popular), brown butter pumpkin, bittersweet chocolate pecan, and salty honey. Pies can be ordered for pickup November 24-28 (Thanksgiving Day), and limited local delivery slots are available." - neha talreja, molly fitzpatrick
"If you’re not a pie person, you just need to try the salty honey pie at Four & Twenty Blackbirds. We promise. This pie shop with a cult following is also our favorite place in the neighborhood to post up with a laptop and get work done or have a coffee date with a friend or colleague. In addition to big slices of pie, they serve great sweet and savory baked goods. You can also get whole pies here—we almost always find a reason to leave with a lemon chess pie. "Do you love pie? This pie pioneer from South Dakota sisters Emily and Melissa Elsen also serves as a coffee shop and popular daytime hang among Gowanus denizens. Bittersweet chocolate pecan, buttermilk chamomile, salted apple caramel, and black bottom oat are a few of their specialties, but do drop by to see what they have on any given day." - Robert Sietsema, Eater Staff
"We can't hide it anymore: Hyperaktivists love pie! As children, we swore we'd eat pie everyday, and we don't give up on our dreams. Now that we work a few blocks from Four & Twenty Blackbirds, the best pie shop in America, we get a slice (or two, or eight) of chocolate chess or salted caramel apple at every possible opportunity. The crust is light and flaky, the fillings handmade and locally sourced, and they have savory options as well." - Hyperakt
