"Chef Jorge Vallejo—an alumnus of the capital's most famous restaurant, Pujol—rose to star status with his internationally-ranked Quintonil, a restaurant he runs in partnership with his wife. Vallejo's more recent venture is Fonda Fina, where his protege, Chef Juan Cabrera, interprets the renowned restauranteur's dishes in a warm, inviting setting. Guests will find clever, thoughtful design touches like clay cooking pots that have been turned into light fixtures. The servers are attentive, and every dish on the tradition-inspired Mexican menu is presented beautifully."

Hidden Gem & simply excellent! Nothing to add to previous reviews.... fantastic food, superb service and a very cozy atmosphere. Almost didn't go in because it was very empty when we got there. And that would have been the biggest mistake ever. We will definitely come back again this week. 5 Stars +++++ !!!

Google
Great experience. Service was quick and nice, food was great, and the cocktail I ordered was tasty. Waiter recommended the rib eye norteño, which was delicious. Came with some tortillas so you could make little tacos with it or eat the steak by itself. Cooked perfectly and was super filling

I came here for a quick lunch on a weekday. It's not super busy then. I ordered a quesadilla with cheese, mushroom and zucchini flower. It has good, balanced flavors and is not spicy. Spicy is the optional salsa that gets served with a few complimentary tortilla chips. I also ordered a cocktail - El Barrilo , a lovely pineapple drink. The servers can speak English. The walls on the first floor have electric outlets every 3-4 feet apart. Quite useful! The bathroom is clean and nice.

Google
The restaurant provides very nice Mexican food. The Suadero tacos are very nice. The Chamorro in molè sauce was delicious. The octopus was small portion and a little bit salty but the prawns were very delicious. The service is very attentive and the staff are very friendly and nice. The restaurant vibe is family but not very baby friendly.

I really enjoyed our meal here. Great food, great cocktails, good service, casual environment. The price is amazing, especially considering the quality and location.

Google
One of my favorite places to dine in CDMX. The decor is wonderful, food is delicious and primary central Mexican and the drinks are perfect. Highly recommended. Ask for Margarito.

Google
Excellent, low-key restaurant with a homey vibe. They specialize in Puebla cuisine, which is heavy on moles but different from Oaxacan food. I had a picana steak with a coffee mole that was delicious. Excellent drinks & reasonable prices. Everyone was lovely. Quiet, pleasant soundtrack, great place for a relaxed dinner. Highly recommended.

Google
Delicious molé and excellent service. Highly recommend the flan con queso and the braised pork shank (it’s huge!)

Yelp
A friend had recommended me this spot when visiting CDMX and I enjoyed that the menu had to offer! My brother and I are big fans of seafood and this one had it all! The day we went we weren't too hungry but we managed to order some yummy stuff. The service here is great and the ambiance is perfect for a date night or a night out with the girls/friends! We had made a reservation but thankfully when we sat down there wasn't much of a wait so walkins are probably fine also. We ordered: * aguachile - this was yummy and fresh with a ton of seafood! There was octopus, calamari and shrimp and it was fresh! There was loads of onions and avocado and tomatoes to add to the tang and the flavor. They also gave us a cute cup of chips to go along with this! * fish ajillo - this was absolutely amazing, the dish was grilled well and had the best seasoning - it was tangy, juicy and crispy all in one. This also came with a salad, guac and tortillas. Between my brother and I, we were full to the brim! I also ordered a cocktail but I can't remember the name. I can say it was one of the popular ones and it was tangy with a nice kick to it! Overall, experience was great and service was also on point!

Yelp
Fonda Fina was recommended as a local restaurant that would be absent of tourists. We walked in to a room full of gringos, and Freddy Mercury blasting from the speakers. Are you kidding me? Surprisingly, the servers didn't speak English. Huh? Fonda Fina was a schizophrenic experience. Perhaps the diners were all local, but they were all expatriates from the United States and Great Britain. That's not what I call local in Mexico. The food was very good and the pricing very reasonable. The tuna tostada was very favorable. My beef tacos were just okay. For main dishes, my mesquite chicken cooked in a bag was good, but nothing special. Grilled chicken Lena with mole was delicious, and I would order Lena often. Fonda Fina was fine except for the British and American rock music blasting away in the small space. It was obnoxious and annoying. I'm in Mexico! Play Spanish music that shows pride in your heritage and roots. Unfortunately, Freddy Mercury and Fonda Fina are now inextricably joined.

Veronica P.

Yelp
Chile en nogado wss top notch! It may have been the mounds of sauce it came drenched in, but I enjoyed every bit of it. The chicken was veryyyy dry, even though it also came drenched in a mushroom sauce. I couldnt eat it.

Yelp
What a fantastic place to have dinner in CDMX/Roma! Service was excellent and the staff catered to every request with the upmost grace. The place is quite spacious and comfortable, plus they have great options for any type of dietary restriction. I visited with one of my closest friends to enjoy our last night in the city and ordered Micheladas with a Tajín rim to start. What a treat! Then we went for appetizers and ordered the Aguachile and some delicious Arugulas y Flor de Calabaza. The Aguachile was very fresh and every flavor popped and complemented the plate beautifully. My friend ate up the Flores de Calabazas so I guess it was really good. We decided to split our entrée and shared the most talked about plate of the season: Chile en Nogada. WOW, WOW, WOW. The sweetness of the the sauce and pomegranate seeds blended seamlessly with the chile and its stuffing. The best part about it was getting to eat the chile with perfectly cooked corn tortillas that added an extra bit of salt and made my heart happy. I can't wait to come back to México and try new plates from this restaurant.

Yelp
What a way to close out my trip to Mexico City. The restaurant is beautifully decorated (I love the hanging lights with corn husks on them over the outside tables), the service is excellent, and the food was refined and beautiful. There isn't a cocktail on that menu that I wouldn't try, but I opted for a pineapple cocktail that knocked my socks off - I love sweet cocktails, and this was the perfect choice. My friends and I shared pork belly sopes as an appetizer. Wow wow wow. The pork belly was tender, fatty, smoky, almost sweet - almost everything that you would want in a pork belly. It was topped with cotija cheese, on top of some sweet and smoky beans and served on a crispy thick sope. For my main, I thoroughly enjoyed a medium-cooked arrachera with a side of potatoes and nopales. The meat was tender, juicy, and delicious with green and red salsas on hot tortillas. The sauce on the meat was sweet, and as I took my first bite, I immediately thought of good times at barbecues with friends and family, smoke filling the air, and an abundant amount of perfectly grilled goodness. Unlike other restaurants, we were served more tortillas than we could fit in our bellies, which is a good thing, because I had to sop up the sauce with tortillas after I gobbled down the arrachera. The nopales were tender and the potato/sweet potato side brought all of the ingredients together. For dessert, my friends and I thoroughly enjoyed the cheesecake and flan. Both were creamy and milky, but were delicious in different ways, so we were glad we splurged. The cheesecake was paired with vanilla ice cream and sweet succulent mango. The flan was surrounded by caramel that we only stopped spooning off of the plate because there was none left. I highly recommend this wonderful restaurant for great Mexican food and a great time overall.

Yelp
Español: El lugar es precioso, la comida es rica y el servicio es muy bueno. Volvería a probar otros platillos. English: The place is absolutely beautiful, the food is yummy, and service is very good. Would absolutely come back and try some other dishes.

Michelle A. L.

Yelp
Excelente sabor y comida. Si andan por CDMX no dejen de venir. Está un poquito perdido en la Roma.

Paul C.

Yelp
The food was excellent. The abóndigas had the same flavors as my grandmother's abóndigas soup, but with a thicker sauce, rather than broth, and tastier meatballs. Don't tell her, but I prefer theirs to my own grandmother's recipe.

Aaron B.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and delicious food. Would recommend the octopus! The tortilla soup had chicharrones on it.

Luis P.

Yelp
After defeating the luchadores the night before and conquering more beers than any sane person would want to drink We decided to give the little fighting spirits we have inside a nice rest by dining out at some nice places. Out of all the upscale or mid level dining places we visited in Roma this had to be my highlight. Not only are the portions great but the food tastes amazing and the service is super quick and friendly. The dishes come out sour to sweet, starters first entrees later unless you want them in a different order. During my trip out to DF i visited this place 3 times. I ordered a lot of food that right now, a month later writing this review is escaping me but I'll do my best to label the photos. My favorite dish so far was the tuna tostadas and the Chile relleno w tamale. If you want to have a nice dining experience wether with friends, alone, or a couple i highly recommend this place for the price and quality of the restaurant.

Yelp
Came here for our 25th anniversary meal (since we are now old ) we arrived around 4pm around going around the city Started off with guacamole followed by cocktails, the pulpo and then a rice pudding (off menu) for dessert (see pictures) It seems that cocktails in Mexico City are not overly strong. Fair enough if that is the norm. These are beautifully presented and very nice. I would suggest one with the mescal since those are probably more flavourful I would definitely come back The cons are that the guacamole and the pulpo were a little salty for us but maybe that is just the norm. The rice pudding may have not been the best choice as well I know you're not maybe you have to but we should look

Matt P.

Yelp
Oh my. Our finest meal in CDMX. I'm not sure I can describe every item as they were so complex and wonderful. My wife had the most beautiful Chile relleno (I'm sure that's not the right name) in honor of Independence Day, a breaded pepper with pomegranate, walnuts and meat in a whipped feta sauce. Amazing. My friend had a beautiful pork leg covered in magnificent mole. My octopus with a mousse of some kind of squash was divine. The pina/mezcal drink were glorious. The ceviche tostada was as well. Every single thing was delicious. I could eat there every day.

Rza S.

Yelp
This place was so uncomfortable and bizarre. We stopped in for lunch, ordered two large appetizers, bottled water, and my friend ordered a fancy cocktail. We then realized they were blaring top 40s rock and roll from the United States? We are from the US and even we dont want to hear that. It was too late to leave. The waiter gave me a dirty look and muttered under his breath when we didn't order main entrees. I just wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible! The whole place was empty and there were staff members standing around everywhere. The food itself was fine, but was so weird that we were pressured to order entrees? The amount of food we ordered was more than enough for us. So bizarre. Rude staff. Don't come here.

Michelle R.

Yelp
We ate here the first night we arrived in Mexico City. The restaurant is absolutely magical and the dishes we ordered were delicious and flavorful (roasted chicken, an arugula salad, the fish of the day, and churros with incredible sauces for dessert). It's such a beautifully appointed restaurant and the service was impeccable. The waitstaff is not overly friendly like in the U.S., but this was a welcome change and they were certainly very professional. The only downside is that the food was on the saltier side.

Maor R.

Yelp
Let's start with the good: - beautiful, quaint, rustic ambiance with serene music playing. Really relaxing in here, almost spa like. - service was top notch. Waiters and staff were attentive and pleasant. - beautiful plating The problem: the food. Is just isn't very tasty. Where Máximo Bistrot blows you away with exceptional balance (salt, sweet, acid, fat), here the food over saturated, mushy, heavy handed (cheese dressing on arugula salad for example, Why?), out of balance. The food feels like rustic, simple, village food lacking in herbs, spices, texture and flavor profiles. Dish by dish: 1. Arugula squash blossom salad: heavy cheese and peanut sauce overwhelms the delicate arugula and squash blossoms. I taste nothing but cheese, cream and peanut. Beautiful plating though. 2. Chiltamal: Just didn't make sense. Tasted of black tea with a bit of maize and cream. Texture of mush. Nothing accented or brought out flavors except maybe the sliver of red onion. A miss. 3. Pork Belly Sope: wish I could taste the pork belly but it was drowned in competing sauces it was like they threw the entire kitchen sink on it. And black beans? Why? They added nothing and further drowned out the pork belly flavor. Texture: all mush. 4. Octopus and Pork Memela: slightly too fishy to be truly fresh octopus. Didn't even feel the pork flavor. Sauce was off and not pleasant. Suffice to say I didn't enjoy this meal. The restaurant is lovely, the staff too. The food simply does NOT rival anything from Máximo nor Pujol. However, my personal palate aside, if slightly elevated rustic traditional Mexican village cuisine is to your taste, perhaps you'll feel differently.

Yelp
Appetizers are the way to go here. We got the sopes and tostadas and they were amazing. The drinks are also super elaborate and are very well made. The presentation of the food here is incredible and they put a lot of effort into making their dishes and drinks look beautiful. Their main dishes were not amazing, but were still delicious. If you're going to come here, load up on the appetizers, salads, and drinks.

Shyam V.

Yelp
Just about the worst service I've ever had. Google said they close at 11 and their own door said they close at 12 so we got there around 8:45 and figured we had plenty of time. But the waiters kept rushing us to order and once we did, they rushed us even more by loitering around as we ate and giving glaring looks at us and our food. My friend had eaten most of her plate but wasn't quite done yet and they kept coming by and asking her if she was done. It seemed like the waiters just wanted to leave as soon as possible. If they really felt that way, they could have just told us it was closed and we would have happily gone elsewhere. But they sat us down and took our order without any hesitation. Never ever coming back here again.

Yelp
Fourth day into our weekend trip to CDMX, we had tried a few highly recommended restaurants. It was the lunch we had at Fonda Fina that delighted us the most. The neighborhood and location was well chosen. It is off the main busy streets. If we were just walking by, we would have definitely stopped and checked it out. The place gave off that kind of vibe. The weather was really nice so we opted to dine outside. To start, we had the arugula and squash blossom salad, a special ceviche and roasted bone marrow. The salad was farm fresh with an aromatic sweetness came from the squash flowers. The ceviche added hokkigai which brought about additional crisp, crunchiness. The bone marrow was super rich as expected. We tried a few local brews to cleanse the palate. I really liked the Julieta blonde ale. For entrees, we had the catch of the day toasted in garlic with some street corn and Oaxaca yellow mole. We were full and should have stopped but could not resist the smell of traditional coffee and sweet rice with milk, nuts and citrus fruits. So we walked to the museum of anthropology afterwards to burn the extra calories.

Alicia P.

Yelp
I give most places 5 stars, but I am giving this place 3 stars because I felt that the food was over complicated and the service was slow. I ordered the octopus appetizer, which was not what I expected. It was too many heavy flavors, which drowned each other out. It was also too large to be an appetizer. The entree I had was a steak with mole sauce, which I thought was over cooked. It came with two sauces, which confused me a bit. I did enjoy the potato and cactus side, which was delicious. Overall, not worth the visit when there are many other amazing restaurants to visit in the area.

Laura G.

Yelp
Visited this restaurant my second trip back to Mexico City and it's definitely my favorite in either visit. I'd rank this above Máximo Bistrot, Rosetta, AND Pendulo and out of all 4 this place has the lowest price point. We came on a Friday at 7:30pm and had no trouble getting a table without a reservation. I'm not sure if that's typical or if we got lucky. I'd stay on the safe side and try booking a reservation just to make sure you get in on these delicious eats! They have an english menu if you need it. But basically on one side of the menu you have shared plates and the other side there's an entree section where you select a protein, side, and sauce. For appetizer we had squash blossom arugula salad with nuts, radishes, cheese, and like angel blessings in it because it was FIRE. Seriously one of the best salads I've had in my life, and I've had a lot of salads because I keep start and stopping my diet for the past 27 years. We also had rice with plantains, pretty solid rice but nothing life-altering in comparison to that squash angel salad described above. As an entree we had the arrachera (skirt steak) with mole. YOU. GUYS. So juicy. So buttery. So sad to be back in America and far away from that piece of meat. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. For dessert we had rice pudding with lychee and oranges, came with a side of ice cream. Super tasty and light. A great way to end the meal! In summary, go eat here.

Alex H.

Yelp
Atmosphere is eclectic, classy, and dreamy! The food was absolutely delicious- I had the garlic roasted fish with green mole and Oaxaca cheese mashed potatoes that was so yummy! My significant other had the grilled octopus tacos with veggies that he loved. The cocktails were my favorite part! Loved the blackberry muddled mezcal cocktail. A little more "expensive" for Mexico City but def a spot for a good date night!

Oremi H.

Yelp
Best chapulines (crickets) I've ever had! Ok I've only tried 2 places but these were marinated almost with a teriyaki type flavor. Tasted like meat. But crunchy. So good. Place was filled with mostly Americans but had a good vibe. Yummy drinks and great food. Definitely a decent spot to stop by for dinner and drinks.

Paul K.

Yelp
A cute little eatery that serves modern Mexican cuisine in the hip neighborhood of Roma. Food was creative, interesting and surprisingly light with a good amount of vegetables...not anything like the modern Mexican food back in California (so much lighter). It's not out of this world good, but food is solid and service is superb. Aguachile, 4 stars: tasty squid ink shrimp ceviche that had a bit of pungent flavor (fish sauce?). Beautiful presentation. Pork belly sopa, 3 stars: Pork belly, beans, vegetables on a piece of flat bread. Pork belly was too lean and slightly overcooked (dry), but flavors were good. The flat bread was fresh and had a nice texture. Pickled pigs feet tostada, 4 stars: pigs feet cubes with lots of pickled vegetables and fried pig skin. Presentation is very nice. It's incredibly light and the textures are amazing (so crispy w no trace of oiliness)! Cheesecake flan with guava, 5 stars: It's a hybrid between the two and not too sweet and just yummy.

Bao T.

Yelp
Service is horrible. Had to ask for the check 3 times before finally getting it 45 minutes later. On the way out, a clumsy waiter hit me in the head with a tray full of food, and continued on without any apology. Waiters repeatedly bumped into tables as they walked by. Food ranged from bad to mediocre. Tuna tostadas were decently seasoned, but tuna did not taste fresh. The fried cheese appetizer was served cold and extremely greasy, which seemed to mean that it had been pre-fried and left out long before we'd ordered it. Drinks were okay but very weak and sugary. I tried both of their signature mezcal drinks (one citrus based, the other pineapple based). Both tasted of fresh fruit, but were syrupy-sweet and had only the faintest hint of mezcal. Mexico City has so many great restaurants, but this is definitely not one of them.

Thomas C.

Yelp
It is always hard to find a restaurant that can accommodate 16 people last minute. Fortunately we were able to find this place. I would have given 4 stars, but some of the dishes were top salty for our tastes. The service was great and very attentive. Not everybody spoke English so it is a good choice to have someone that speaks Spanish in your party. The cocktails were great and the salsa for the chips were also very good. Don't fill up on the chips and salsa, or you won't be able to enjoy your entree.

Amy S.

Yelp
Fonda Fina was a great find! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! We were out for a stroll when we strolled upon it. Such a cute place with great ambiance. The food was incredible, the drinks delicious and the service impeccable. All of the wait staff was very attentive, while also not hovering over us. We loved everything about this place! Our recommendations include the fresh guacamole, green ceviche tostadas, dried noodle soup with chilaquiles and the braised pork shank! Our favorite drink was the El Barril, although the cocktail menu is amazing and the drinks look like a work of art. We will be back to this restaurant every time we are in town.

Kenneth O.

Yelp
This is a gem of a restaurant. Apart from food presentation being spot on the service was phenomenal as the waiter carefully observes your pace and then brings out the main dishes as to not rush you. A must visit spot!

A A.

Yelp
Instead of dining at chef Jorge Vallejo's Quintonil, which topped Pujol this past year in Pelligrino's "best restaurants in Latin America," I chose chef Jorge's newly opened fonda, Fonda Fina. Despite my lack of fluency in Spanish, I was able to communicate my order to the team at Fonda Fina. They had an English menu which definitely helped. They had a menu of the day for lunch which I opted choosing their recommended tortilla soup, tamale, and flan for dessert. To drink as part of the menu of the day, I ordered the mango juice with mint which came with a refill. The service and attentiveness is about as good as it gets in DF. Very professional and attentive, but not to the point of annoying. One of the most difficult places to book I would say for those in the know local and gastrotourists. I visited during off hours so I was able to easily score a seat. After dessert, the staff retreated where I had to flag someone down for the bill. It's considered rude to bring the check to diners without them asking. Quite refreshing not to be rushed during a meal. I loved that the food was more reasonable and more substantial than Quintonil here. This is probably where more of the food the top chefs in Mexico like to eat and inspired by more than the modern Mexican tweezer food that tends to draw many gastrotourists to DF. Come for the sophisticated traditional Mexican cuisine and attentive service, especially the "bang for your buck." I suggested calling for a reservation before departing for DF or wing it like me and come during an off, odd hour.

Nicole M.

Yelp
Dinner was super delicious. I came in around 8pm on a Thursday by myself. I was greeted welcomingly but then when I said I was alone, I got a look of disappointment as all of the tables seat 4 people that I saw. I got the same look when I didn't order a huge amount of food. I ordered two appetizers and a drink. It was plenty of food for me. That's where the downside of this place ends though. The food was amazing! The chorizo tostadas were delicious, the wine recommended was delicious but my absolute favorite was the pork tamal. It was deconstructed!!! I'd never seen anything like this. It has crispy slices of thick cut pork and masa that was sliced like bread. I would come back and just order these next time! But probably with other people!

Alyssa C.

Yelp
We came here on our first night in Mexico City, so the standard was set VERY high from the start of our trip. We LOVED this place. The interior and exterior are both GORGEOUS! Very welcoming and warm. We had the pork belly sope with avocado, the kale caesar salad (the best I've ever had!) Xoconstle tamarind glace, (dried meat) on a corn memela with jicama and pomegranate. The cocktails were some of the best we have ever had, and the meal was so affordable. 3 drinks, and 3-4 dishes for about $40 US. Can't recommend this place enough!

Emily W.

Yelp
We had the most wonderful dining experience at Fonda Fina and quickly made it one of our top five restaurant choices in CDMX. The ambiance is warm, welcoming and homey with funky Mexican toys as drink markers and traditional utensils used for design and decoration. The food was spectacular from the cheese filled tortillas with green pepian, octopus with mole to the mandarin cacao crepe brûlée. Each dish and sauce was beating with uniquely Mexican flavors and warmth. Cocktails, wine, mezcal and tequila were all in abundance and well prepared. The staff and service were exceptional (in point with or Pujol experience). Chef Tania, our servers Jhoel and Carlos as well as the tortilla and bar tenders made us feel like family. This was a truly wonderful dining experience that we plan on repeating each trip to CDMX we make!

Christine R.

Yelp
Our first meal in Mexico City was spent here, and by far, it has continued to be the most memorable. The atmosphere was absolutely lovely. We even got to watch tortillas being made from scratch! Our server was more than understanding and helpful when it came to improving our Spanish. The clientele was respectful and diverse (people watching was an added bonus). As most other reviewers have stated, cocktails were muy impresionante! Most importantly: the FOOD. Authentic. Delicious. Best guacamole and freshest tortillas yet. I just can't stop thinking about this wonderful meal! We'll definitely have to go back before our trip is through.

Alex S.

Yelp
This place has decent food and good drinks. Cocktails are delicious but weak. Mexican red wines were lovely. Three stars because I think it's a bit overpriced for the food. Ordered tortilla soup, crab tamales, bean tamales, brisket with charcoal sauce (?) and a side of mashed potatoes, white fish with corn. My favorite was tortilla soup and I would come again for this dish. Beef was cooked right and yummy. Tamales were a bit tough and pasty. Also fish was just okay. Most customers are foreigners and their menu is in English.

Laura S.

Yelp
This was a super delightful dinner spot -- the menu is so big and everything looked so good it was a huge strug to pick but good thing the service was fantastic because our v kind waiter had some great recommendations and did not least us astray. I ordered a pineapple drink that was delish and not too strong (until I got to the tequila soaked pineapple chunks at the bottom anyway), and then we shared pork belly chalupas (fantastic -- get these) and paneques (yummy but had a sort of odd flavor in there that was reminiscent if baby food?) for starters. Then we just blindly took our server's recommendation of chamorro and he didn't even ask what side or sauce we wanted so he must have just known that we had no idea idk. It was SO much food and really tender and juicy and so so good. Def had no room for dessert, which was a shame, but I pretty much had to be rolled back to our hotel so...

Cristelle E.

Yelp
I love this place! The food is really amazing with good quality ingredients! The staff is also very nice and warm! Definitely recommend this place. If you're thinking of going, take this as a sign and go! You won't regret it!

Yelp
Since we had heard so many good things about Pujol and Quintonil (but didn't have the time to get a reservation), I was excited about Fonda Fina. Unfortunately, this felt like an example of trying too many things at once without much refinement. Worst of all was an attempted mix of cultures in an udon/dashi dish, which might as well have been reheated instant dashi with unseasoned chickpeas, chunks of avocado, and two sad noodles bobbing. Tacos with menudo were all mush with zero flavor, and a tostada with shrimp was similarly bland and confusing (the shrimp bits, which you add yourself, were brought out a handful of time after the tostadas, which seems like a crucial element to forget). The pork belly sopa was the one dish we thought was "pretty good" (it's pork belly, if you can't make that taste good, you're lost) but still not inspired. I've mulled over the confusion as there are so many glowing reviews - we kept saying, "maybe we ordered the wrong things?" But for a supposed great restaurant, shouldn't that not be an issue? To top it off the staff seemed to be trying to make us feel out of place by scoffing at us as they poured our drinks - contributing to a rushed exit, almost embarrassed by how bad it all was. We know there aren't many US tourists in DF, but shouldn't that make our presence a good thing?

Dan Z.

Yelp
This bad review is mainly for the braised ribs. They came with nearly 75% fat on the meat. This should never be the case: they should have trimmed most of the fat but left some on for the flavor; then if the meat had been cooked properly, all of the rest of the fat would have rendered into the braising liquid leaving the meat flavorful and actually having meat to serve on the plate. When I brought it to their attention, they tried to educate me that this is how short ribs should be served. If anything the fat should have been soft and edible, but it was hard.

Doug B.

Yelp
Ok. First the good: the food was amazing. Evolved and delicious. From the cocktails, to the appetizers, to the main dishes and finally dessert everything was amazing. Now the bad: the service was atrocious. Although all the food came out hot, not once were we asked if we were happy, no one smiled and in fact the woman who poured water had an amazingly sour and unhappy look on her face. We had to ask for water several times and then only one glass came out. Not once was it refilled without asking. We told the server that we were sharing everything, yet all the food just came out plunked on the table. It was never served to us nor partitioned. There was a table of two heterosexual couples sitting next to us. We noticed that they were served food. Was this discrimination because we were gay? A piece of advice to the chef: your food was amazing but you need to teach your staff about hospitality. The final straw that broke the camels back was that the server literally looked at the tip we had left in front of us and made a sour face. We tipped in the middle range but not generously. It could have been a lot less.

Yelp
This place is good but not great. We came here after our tour guide said he considered the best food in Mexico City (even ahead of Pujol). We started off with some excellent Mezcal cocktails and asked for the chef to just bring us out whatever he picked. Maybe we got a bit of the gringo treatment / were given more of the basic items because our three main dishes were fried chicken cutlet (really very basic- nothing more than your standard schnitzel), a steak that was good but again nothing special going on and no interesting flavors and a pork chop that was probably our least favorite of the three and also had nothing really going on. We kind of wondered if we got the gringo treatment and didn't try some of the more interesting dishes because our waiter thought we wouldn't be able to handle them. Our appetizers were much better and we enjoyed the chillaquiles we had in between. Dessert was also excellent. Overall this place is pretty good. By no means will it break the bank - for three of us with dessert a ton of food and cocktails it cost about $40. But I really don't think this place lives up to the hype whatsoever.

Yelp
Catch of the day? ... I'd say catch of the week. It was not fresh, not flaky and juicy as it should be, we were barely able to take away the meat from the skin. We were served half of the fish, and were only able to eat about a quarter of it. Our other dishes were too salty to finish, the octopus appetizer, side of potato skin and mushrooms. And despite the positive reviews of the bone marrow and lard dish, it was a huge disappointment. It felt like we were just eating plain fat. Positive to the restaurant was the decor, our hostess and the English menu.

Yelp
Excellent traditional Mexican food, it is presented in a very detailed way and the taste is very good. Service was great also, highly recommended if you want to eat Fonda style food in a more refined setting

Yelp
Increíble. I started with the sopa azteca. It was well balanced; ever ingredient had a place. I had the aguachile, which was unique because the sauce/marinade has squid ink in it. The black radishes were a great touch and the portion was good (very hard to find in a finer restaurant). The tostadas they served were delicious and the green salsa was memorable. I won't put the names of any other restaurants buttttt I do think it's better than some of the other renowned DF eateries. Prices were very reasonable. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This was a delicious meal. The staff was extremely nice. I was with a very picky eater and he was able to find something to eat without a problem. This is a nice hidden gem.

Yelp
DO NOT EAT HERE. Worst experience ever. We came to Mexico from California to celebrate our mother's 70th birthday. We made a reservation for 8 people at 9pm on a Saturday night, which we felt awesome about. Had read great reviews online and, while we had been told service was "meh" , our experience via the phone call was perfect. Unfortunately everything went downhill upon arrival. They sat us upstairs in a room that felt like a sauna. The A/C was not working and the temperature read 29 Celsius (aka 86+ degrees Fahrenheit). It was insufferable, especially for ailing 70 and 75 year old parents. We immediately asked to be moved downstairs and were told that would not be an option since they had mismanaged the time it would take for the large table downstairs to clear. So we were stuck. We immediately ordered bottles of water for the table out of desperation and fear of fainting, and only later learned they had run out of water and had therefore swapped out the 35 peso bottles ($2 each) for the 80 peso bottles ($4.50 each). Then they screwed up everything on our order. The menu reads amazing. You pick your protein, then a side, then a sauce. They brought us 20 corn chips total for the 8 of us (think of this as the bread or free chips that come with their salsa). We held off on ordering apps since we knew our main meals would be awesome. It took nearly 75 minutes to get the entrees, and upon arrival, everything with our order was wrong. They had run out of rice. They had run out of French fries. They served my father and the kids the wrong entrees, so my picky father who had ordered the beef milanesa was served the chicken with cheese on top (which he hates). Our nephew was accidentally served my father's meat, bit into it, and spit it out. Then they told us they wouldn't make my father his proper meat dish, so they swapped what was left of each other's milanesa steaks and set there upset, overheated, and without water (oh, yeah, they also ran out of bottled water completely by the time the meals had come). All in all, a terrible experience. Three different couples got seated upstairs, sat for a second, only to be horrified by the sweltering heat, and somehow got moved downstairs. But no. My father - neckbrace and all - and my mother, who looked like a red tomato the entire time, were told there were no other tables. At the end of the meal, nothing was discounted, no offer to make right on the entrees that had all come out missing at least the accompanying side, and they charge San Francisco prices for the meal. Different family members ran out of the restaurant before we had even paid up, for fear they would pass out. In the end, my father walked over to them to hand his credit card so we could make our way to fresh air as soon as possible. We complained to the hostess and the manager, in addition to our wait staff (who could barely hold their sh#t together since they too were sweating profusely and clearly uncomfortable by the heat and discontent patrons). The hostess apologized and said there was nothing she could do. The manager ran inside to grab 5 min bottles of water (these cost 5 pesos a piece at any Oxxo) and said this was all she could do. Then she shrugged and looked disempowered and bothered that other downstairs patrons might hear us. FYI- this was not a language issue. My mother is from Mexico, my father from Cuba, and we all speak fluent Spanish. This was just a crappy customer experience followed by mismanagement of the food, and a complete lack of empathy for diners (including seniors) at risk of heat stroke. Worst experience ever. We couldn't even stand to wait to sing happy birthday to my mom (nor did they ever offer something as simple as a free dessert to curry some favor with us). So bummed to have spent one of our 3 dinner meals here.

Yelp
This restaurant was absolutely amazing and affordable. If you are in the Condesa neighborhood, definitely check it out. Good ambiance, great cocktails, delicious and unique dishes, and low prices. I will be recommending this place to friends visiting Mexico City!

Yelp
I was extremely impressed by every aspect of this dining experience. There is a lot of creativity going on here with the food. The flavors are diverse, interesting, and well-balanced. It was immediately obvious that the quality of the ingredients being used was very high. The presentation was attractive and the service was top-notch, highly attentive and friendly. I knew that I wanted to try their lamb barbacoa, and there were definitely a lot of choices when it came to sides and sauces for my dish, so I asked the waiter for his recommendations with these. I figured that he would know the tastiest things, and the things that would work the best with my lamb and he certainly did. The Mexican red wine that I had was excellent, and the desert that I ordered was one of the best I've ever had. The price that I paid for the meal was fairly steep for CDMX, but only about half of what I would pay for a comparable meal in San Francisco or New York City. I can't recommend this restaurant enough. It's a meal that I will not soon forget.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, great food. The owner is so friendly and goes to every table to make sure the food is wonderful. This restaurant was featured in the ny times and for good reason! Brand new and in a great neighborhood. Definitely recommend if you are visiting MX or looking for new trendy restaurants!

Yelp
2nd time in Mexico City and we wanted to explore. Found this adorable little gem which happens to owned by a previous Mexico Iron Chef contestant, Juan Cabrera. Food was delicious to say the least. We had several dishes milanesa, short ribs, tamales among other choices. All we do good!!!! Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Simply amazing! From the wait staff to food to drink to atmosphere...our waiter Morgarita was a consummate professional. Extremely helpful, knows his restaurant well and aiming to please. The food was pleasing to the eye and absolutely delicious. A meal like this in the US would be a couple of hundred dollars, including the Mezcal ( which you probably couldn't get). We will come back for brunch on Sunday but be early by 2 it's tight...a tremendous experience!

Yelp
Excellent neighborhood restaurant with elevated Mexican food. Cocktails were particularly good, even compared to the nearby bars specializing in cocktails. Presentation was good but portions were much larger than normal for restaurants in this price range - we left stuffed and happy. Our only complaint was that the music was a bit too loud, but not so much that it took away from an excellent meal.
