I picked up my beloved little adornment from Sally a couple of weeks ago and have worn it every day since. I love my ring so much I just can't even. After falling in love with watermelon bicolor tourmaline I started sourcing my own stones, not knowing just how difficult it would be to find a fine jeweler who was willing to work with provided jems. When I finally found the perfect stone, the jeweler I purchased it from didn't have any settings that suited me: this is a gift for myself, to help ease my acceptance of turning 40 this year with no kids, no husband, and no engagement ring in my foreseeable future. My life doesn't look like my friends'. And that's OK. But I want a ring. And that, I decided, I can do for myself.
I wanted a right hand ring, that looks like a right hand ring, NOT an engagement ring. So I walked into Fancy and met Sally and showed her the stone and told her I wanted a right hand ring that did NOT look like an engagement ring (although I'm pretty sure I actually used expletives because by that point I'd seen so many f#$*ing engagement ring settings I thought this project was a lost cause) and she was stoked.
Sally was amazing. She met me right where I was energetically ... she sketched ideas, showed me samples, gave great advice, finished my sentences and read my mind, and was really awesome to work with even though my budget was lower than what you'll see on the pricetags in her shop. We settled on a wide hammered silver band (as opposed to white gold, to keep the piece in my budget) and she built a bold, beautiful setting out of red gold that perfectly fits and shows off my stone. When I picked up the finished ring I almost cried; I wear it daily, and it's like it was made just for my finger (because it was, and Sally knows her you-know-what). Not only is the piece of jewelry itself a treasure; the whole experience exceeded my hopes for giving myself this gift and I'll treasure both the ring AND the experience and energy associated with it. Thank you so much, Sally! Hugs from Watermelon Sara!
