Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa

This hotel was amazing. I usually pick my own lodgings after creating an itinerary and doing a lot of research. I was only going to be visiting Johannesburg for 2 nights, so I didn’t research the are much and let my travel agent pick this hotel. Wow. Thank you to her! This hotel is beautiful. Very impressive grounds, architecture, restaurant, and their staff was incredible! From the food servers, to the front desk staff, and the groundskeepers and housekeepers, they were all friendly and kind. |The room was great, it had everything we needed, from plush robes and comfy slippers, to the usual appreciated amenities - hair dryer, iron, safe, refrigerator, coffee maker, glassware, coffee supplies, etc. we had a great stay and enjoyed two dinners and two breakfasts in their great restaurant. The decor in every aspect of this hotel was impressive! African fare and decor around every corner. Beautifully presented to whoever is lucky enough stay here! |Thank you for a couple of wonderful days!

Visited the Spa which is really beautiful and relaxing. Treatments were a 7/10 not as good as I've had elsewhere, but lovely. Service for food was very slow. There are some small attention to detail around the spa that can easily be attended to, to add to the level of experience expected. Overall a lovely afternoon spent.

Fairlawns is a beautiful setting but has servicing issues. The food is not great, the Sunday music was really loud and when trying to make spa bookings I could not get through. It is a pity. They need a service intervention and to look at their menu quality to justify their prices.

Very disappointing stay overall. The rooms are old and outdated: the TV is not a smart TV and as a result could not connect to streaming channels. The carpets are visibly dirty with stains on it, similarly with the couch. It was raining during our stay and we had water leaking through the bathroom roof. When we notified reception we were told they will alert their manager in the morning (no offer of solution ). In addition, there’s an overall musty smell in the corridors which isn’t appealing at all. Further, the breakfast was subpar at best. Got our orders wrong twice. Definitely not worth the price and definitely doesn’t reflect the 5-stars.

Gorgeous hotel in lush gardens, offering a quiet retreat for a visit to Johannesburg's northern suburbs. Our stay at Fairlawns was brief so did not have a chance to enjoy the restaurant facilities, but the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The hotel in general, warm and welcoming, making it feel like home.

I tried booking a spa day for 6 ladies, and was told they cannot take a group booking because they believe the group will be noisy and disturb the hotel guests. Firstly, it is incredibly rude to assume that your spa guests are going to be noisy and disruptive, and tell them so over the phone when trying to make a booking. Secondly, this business should not even have a spa facility if they believe all the clients are going to disturb their hotel guests. Worst experience with a spa ever, would not recommend booking with them. You might get thrown out if you sneeze too loud.

This joint delivers on its promise of over the top pretension. ||Every square centimeter of manor itself is adorned in heavy handed kitch, hundreds of framed mirrors and dozens of mounted animal remnants. ||There is a lovely meeting/private dining room with truly beautiful Abstract paintings and sculpture. ||We stayed in room 22 which is beautiful. The luxurious bath room featured open areas for the toilet and shower, (no sound privacy) very slippery tiles underfoot and not one safety grab bar, decorative or otherwise to be found. They also offer no bar soap so one must carry the “cleanser “ bottle back and forth from the vanity to the shower. Shower walls were decorative glossy black metal panels, unique. Very nice towels. ||Upon arrival, I asked about wines and was directed to a youngish shorter man who claimed to be the “Sommelier”. I said I am interested in high altitude, small production Chenins and blends, he said, “yes, we have some hip wines”(?). ||I was hosting five colleagues for dinner. ||The Wine Master turned out to be a pitiless imposter, the poor guy. ||The first two wine producers from his list I asked him to tell me about, he said “ oh yes, it’s white and very nice”. After some running around to determine that those are out of stock I said we’d settle for some Sauvignon Blanc. “Great” he exclaimed with relief…Only to return with a Chardonnay(!). Honestly, this bottle was delicious, just nowhere close to what I was looking for. ||Embarrassingly, my dinner guests witnessed this whole run-around. ||The cuisine is quite good. I tried both seafood and oxtail mains. Server was cool and detached. ||No one working here was interested in engaging, just lots of phony formality. For those travelers seeking a shallow, instagrammable moment, this place oughta work well. ||The Fairlawns is pretentious and without any soul. All rather vapid eye candy sizzle and no human warmth. Felt like a parody of itself.

A hidden gem in Sandton. Total relaxation guaranteed. Massages were superb and the staff were amazing. It felt as if we had been transported to Bali. Well worth booking a luxurious and pampering spa experience.
