Restaurant at Meadowood Chef Christopher Kostow Opens $7 Million Restaurant Ensue in Shenzhen, China | Eater SF

"In Shenzhen I learned that Kostow’s new project opened this weekend with backing from Ricky Li (who provided $7 million through the Dingyi Group) and aims to bring Northern California luxury to the city. The restaurant offers five- and nine-course tasting menus that meld California with a bit of southern China, guided in the new market by consultant Agnes Chee; Kostow says ingredients and simplicity drive both cuisines but that he’s shifting emphasis toward more aromatics and delicate preparations. Dishes include lap cheong sausage en croute and river eel from Guangdong smoked over green tea leaves, and Kostow plans to introduce Napa wines to the market despite tariffs. The space, designed by Chris Shao Studio, was described as conveying capitalist California opulence." - Caleb Pershan

Some memorable experience at Ensue with both the new chef Jeffrey Wu and former Chef Smiles. The service was good, Michelin 2 star standard. The wine list was good. The food is influenced by Chinese and they used local produce which was great. Good presentation over plating. We were lucky to be shown to their kitchen. Thank you the entire Ensue team.

We had an incredible experience at Ensue with new chef Jeffrey Wu. The service was absolutely exceptional, 3 michelin star level. The wine list is very extensive. The food is strongly influenced by Chinese and flavours with local produce which is great. Very nice and delicate presentation and taste. We especially loved the wagyu beef which came from China and was exceptional. We were also lucky to be able to meet the chef who took us on a tour of the kitchen. The chef also came from time to time to serve and present the dishes himself. Overall a truly unique and memorable experience. Thanks to chef Jeffrey Wu and the entire Ensue team.

We came for Michelin 3-star chef Christopher Kostow, so he & his team at Ensue doesn't let up. All the food and experience are top notch, from start to finish, and we are so much pleasantly surprised at the ability by the head chef Miles & his team to integrate the local produce from China & execute the farm-to-table concept to work to almost perfection. Just when we thought Hong Kong has the best Michelin restaurants as compared to Shenzhen, Ensue has proved me wrong. 😝 Please keep up the good work and we're looking forward to returning.

Giving 5 stars because I’m sure it’s fantastic. Didn’t get to eat here because there is no good way to communicate as a foreigner. They respond to your email within 24hours but request for you to download WeChat app for further communication- instead of actually answering your questions from the email. I know I was a last minute request, but it’s already so complex to function as a foreigner here, you would think a fine dining restaurant on the 50 best restaurants in the world would be a safe haven for foreigners to indulge in the local cuisine with comfort. disappointing.

We came to Alcove, the bar at Ensue for work drinks in March on a Friday night. Quite cosy and great views of the Shenzhen skyline given Alcove is on the 40/F of Shangri-La.Even the restrooms had a great view! The cocktail menu was very interesting, with the staff spending time to explain each drink as they served it. It’s also super close to the Futian High Speed Rail Station.

What a delightful experience we had at this restaurant! The atmosphere was so relaxed, the courses were wonderful, and the service was truly excellent. Our time there was absolutely lovely. The table service stood out as outstanding, and the waiters were incredibly attentive, making the evening feel exceptionally special. They were truly amazing and very kind, adding an extra touch of warmth to the entire dining experience. Moreover, the food was fantastic, leaving us thoroughly satisfied. I can't recommend this place enough! We're eagerly looking forward to our next visit, hopefully in the near future.

Absolutely incredible experience. The food and service was amazing - a big thanks to Antoine and Rainbow for the excellent service. This is easily Michelin level in every way. Highly recommended if you're in Shenzhen.
