"Sometimes happy hour turns into the “after-party” spot, and in that case better head to Eighteenth Street Lounge. This legendary D.C. club, around since 1995, features live music, DJs and dancing on Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from until 3 a.m. Check Instagram to see who’s performing this week. "Eater DC’s 2022 Bar of the Year in Blagden Alley hits the mark with its espresso martini. The Havana 3AM showcases Skyy vodka, Mr. Black coffee liqueur, espresso, and sugar. Happy hour from Wednesday to Sunday (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.) shaves $4 off the caffeinated coupe, joined by $8 prosecco and $7 sangria." - Mekita Rivas, Tierney Plumb
"The legendary Dupont Circle nightclub that closed during the pandemic after 25 years in business reopened in a new Northwest neighborhood last fall. Lovingly known as “ESL” by regulars, owner Farid Nouri’s two-level, 5,000-square-foot comeback in Shaw is about half the size of the dearly missed original. Similarities include an airy rooftop deck, full-service bars on each level, and the ability to host multiple live acts at once. Many of the same resident DJs and eclectic jazz, funk, reggae and Latin acts are back, too." - Tierney Plumb, Tim Ebner

"Eighteenth Street Lounge (ESL), a beloved Dupont Circle club that closed during the pandemic, is making a comeback in Shaw's Blagden Alley. The new ESL is a two-level, 5,000-square-foot venue with an airy rooftop deck, full-service bars on each level, and the ability to host multiple live acts simultaneously. Unlike the original, the new ESL includes a food program and expanded hours for happy hour and community events. It can accommodate 250 people and offers a diverse menu ranging from $7 parmesan popcorn to $118 caviar-topped blinis. The venue retains the essence of the original with elegant furniture, baroque couches, and antique chandeliers while introducing new elements like live edge bar tops and fireplaces. It also hosts daytime wellness sessions and various events. ESL Shaw is run by a team that includes women artists and designers, and it partners with local charities." - Tierney Plumb
