Egg is a beloved Williamsburg gem serving up mouthwatering Southern-style breakfasts in a rustic setting, perfect for brunch seekers craving comfort food.
"Before Williamsburg was a hot bed for culinary activity, it was a neighborhood on the rise and melting pot for the arts. As we all know, any respectable home for the scruffy hipster artist types better have a good place for them to congregate, eat breakfast, drink coffee, and talk about how broke they are. Egg certainly wasn't the first Williamsburg restaurant where this kind of morning gathering could happen - but it's always been the most important. This place has always been a staple for the neighborhood, and they take a very serious, farm-to-Chuck Taylor approach to their food. So serious that they even have their own farm outside of the city. Even though we don't live in Williamsburg, Egg has been in heavy rotation for what seems like decades at this point (probably since 2009). We love this place. There's no bullsh*t here, just a stark white space with friendly service and reasonably priced, high quality food. The only downside? Don't even bother trying to compete with the crowds on the weekends. It's an absolute zoo. Monday through Friday is when you want to hit Egg, especially if you've got business in the 'Burg. It's just steps from the Bedford stop on the L train, and is about as convenient as a Williamsburg restaurant gets. Food Rundown Organic Grits and Eggs Holy sht, Egg's grits. They're not too heavy, not too spicy...not too anything. Just subtle and delicious and combined with a couple of sunny side up eggs and seared kale. So fcking delicious and exactly what I want to eat for breakfast every morning. Eggs Rothko Are you obsessed with grilled cheese? Then you should be ordering this for breakfast. An egg is cooked inside a thick, square piece of toasty buttered brioche and topped with delicious cheddar. It's absurdly good, and one of Egg's classic calling cards. You also get a side of broiled potatoes and a meat of your choice. We usually like to pair it with some country ham. Duck Hash Our go-to. Two eggs site aside an amazing hash of potatoes, green onions, and braised duck leg meat. All breakfast should have some duck involved. Also, if that sounds like your thing, look out for the specials menu. There is usually at least one quack-alicious option there too. Pancakes Just a simple stack of three pancakes with a square of butter and Vermont maple syrup. Sometimes simple is underrated. Biscuits & Gravy Are you prepared to be completely unproductive for the rest of your day? Then go with the biscuits and gravy. Egg makes incredible biscuits fresh every day, yet they can be a tad dry sometimes. But that's nothing a big bowl of gravy can't fix. This is one hearty and delicious breakfast. Homemade Granola Egg's granola is delicious. If you're all egged out, don't sleep on this." - Andrew Steinthal
"Egg got its start as a morning pop-up at a hot dog restaurant in Williamsburg, before taking over the space and becoming something a neighborhood institution. It closed after 15 years during the height of the pandemic." - Luke Fortney
"For years, this little restaurant has attracted lines around the block for its unwaveringly delicious brunch. If you can go on a weekday, you'll have better luck sampling their spectacularly soft, eggy french toast, or their famous Eggs Rothko basically, the best egg in a hole ever."

"This small but welcoming southern-inflected spot is a Williamsburg breakfast go-to. The menu has soulful staples, like the country ham biscuit (served with Grafton cheddar, homemade fig jam, and a side of grits) and, for something slightly healthier, the Carolina kale (organic kale and tomatoes in a lightly spiced broth over grilled cornbread). The French press single origin coffees from Tanzania are a delight." - Andrea Whittle
