"One of Sydney 's most celebrated cocktail bars has that speakeasy style down—dapper mixologists, glass cabinets, jazzy sound track, moody lighting—but it also delivers on the libations front. Expect inventive riffs on classic negronis, smoky mescal concoctions infused with tea and bitters and of-the-moment cocktails like a Kentucky-inspired "kick-starter" with bacon bourbon. There's also a small bar menu and a comprehensive, verging-on-scholarly whiskey list."

"Eau de Vie isn't considered Australia's best cocktail bar for nothing. Housed in the back room of the sleek Kirketon boutique hotel, this award-winning Prohibition-style bar is most famous for its inventive and insanely theatrical libations, the type that are shrouded in clouds of eucalyptus and wood smoke, served over frozen river rocks, topped with saffron mousse, chilled with liquid nitrogen, and occasionally set on fire. There are more than 50 drinks to try, each one more innovative than the last." - Kris Fordham, Laura Dannen Redman

Wow this was a highlight of my evening. Maybe a little difficult to find - we had to ask the doorman of the hotel? directly opposite but I got the sense that he probably gets asked quite a lot and he very happily pointed the door out to us. The only negative I have of the whole experience was the dimly lit staircase (def do recommend you use the lift) as I could not see the steps so you could very easily break an ankle. However once at the basement bar we received exemplary and professional service, were offered an option of where to sit and had made it in time for the weekday happy hour that provided a mini martini and 6 oysters (with a very original and delicious accompaniment) for only $24 ! The space is beautiful, the staff are very helpful and smartly dressed. I will def be returning. If you love gin or whisky this is def for you - there was an enormous choice.

Great atmosphere. Our server was a little abrupt, but efficient. Cocktail selection was great. I enjoyed my Hearts on Fire especially since it came with a show. Lady White Snake was also good, but way too much ice. My sister's Serpent Song was good, but pretty sweet. Enjoyed the olives and oysters as well.

Now this is a speakeasy!! Crafted cocktails to perfection and such a variety to pick from. Staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Such creative ways to present and serve all the different cocktails. If I could rate this establishment higher I would! I’m a gin lover and these crafted cocktails did not disappoint

Went here for date night, the vibes and atmosphere were amazing. It wasn’t overcrowded, felt really inviting and intimate. The decor was stunning, it was as if I was in the 1920s. The staff were friendly. The food was delicious, arrived for happy hour and ordered two dozen oysters for $48- bargain!! Cocktails pricey but worth it.

The Mog Champ sends his regards. Nice dim jazzy atmosphere. Swift and friendly service. Last but not least, the yuzu mule, lamb croquettes and the pork scratching were delicious! Next time they have my visit, I'll be sure to tackle some other well-crafted cocktails in their recipe book. Another nice gem in the city discovered. Mogliest Regards, Your Mog Champ

Amazing experience, hidden gem underground, Travis at the door was outstanding, very professional, and hospitable. Please make a booking to avoid disappointment. The vibe is very nice, the staff very friendly, I loved how they explained every drink. The cocktails are fantastic and great. The only thing to be aware of is the smell of the place, it does smell a bit like what you would smell in a fish market or fish and chips takeaway shop. It's wasn't a deal breaker for us and the place was full anyway so I don't think anybody minds. Would recommend adding the place to your to do list

This was by far the best experience in Sydney for well designed, carefully curated cocktails in a high end and personal style. I was lucky enough to have some really fantastic help from the staff and even management here in selecting the perfect drink - they were artisans in their careful consideration of personal tastes. The ‘Martinez’ was suggested after I explained the taste I was seeking. I found the drink was prepared to be so delightfully smooth and subtly sweet, not to mention boozy in the best way. The kindness of the staff here is so unique and compliments the calibre of the bartenders. Highly recommend visiting this tucked away prohibition vibe bar. You won’t be disappointed

Loved our cocktails and experience here plus super friendly bartenders. Can’t wait to come back! It’s perfect before a meal up at the Sanderson.
