I always take a trip back in time when visiting since my husband found this place as a USMA Cadet (20 years ago!) on weekend leave and we stop by every time we are in the city. This time we brought our kids back!! We sat on the patio and enjoyed our time together, even though I wasn’t able to eat indoors. Thankful that option is offered!

Really good music & wings i had were amazing , the hot mess flavor was no joke!!! be ready for that hope you have plenty of water , but i also got garlic parm those were 9/10 and hot wings 8/10 could be a bit more saucier but overall wings were amazing!!

Lucas and David are phenomenal! Went on a Sunday night with a few coworkers and they made us feel comfortable and attend too. Prices are great and so are the vibes!

The food was so good, the sweet Thai chili sauce on the boneless chicken was bomb! I'm a fried pickles gal & these were tasty & even though my drink, "casamiga sunrise" was missing the orange juice. Who will really say no to a full glass of tequila with a splash a grenadine? lol 😆 did add lime for a much needed citrus note, but for half price, I enjoyed my tequila 😜 They even gave free sauces for the left-overs! will definitely come back. It's such a fun vibe!

Bartender with the neck tattoos was a real piece of work. Denied us water countless times. Kicked my friend out for no reason and then let him back in around 10 mins later. Must’ve been an unserious reason… Maybe it’s just Wednesday nights when this sorry excuse for a bartender is there, but nevertheless, I would consider going to a different bar.

The service I experienced here has been amazing. A couple weeks ago I went here and ended up loosing a necklace that meant so much too me. It was something that was really bothering me so I reached out to management there to see if they could check the cameras for me to see what happened to it, and they have just been so kind and helpful. Lucas, especially was empathetic of my situation and has done everything in his power to connect me to the right people. Taylor and Kurk, were two other people who I have spoken with and could not be more appreciative of their efforts to help me try a future out what happened to my necklace. They are working with me weeks after to help me. I highly recommend swinging by Down the Hatch. They deserve the business.

The Great Man Theory posits that history can be explained by the impact of a few great men (ex. Alexander the Great, George Washington, Winston Churchill, YNW Melly, etc.). Their actions had a profound impact on those who lived during their time and on those who lived after. To be considered part of their ilk is the closest us mortals can come to immortality. That is why I am so passionate about pushing every bar in the tri-state area to install floor piss grates throughout their establishments to empower everyone of every background to piss through said grates whilst wearing water repellant robes to conceal their "pieces" (or you can just let people go full action bronson on the dance floor who cares). This would enable patrons to avoid long bathroom lines and instead spend more time blacking out on Long Island iced teas. Will you join me in my revolution, or will you be left behind to the decrepit annals (lol) of history.

I have been going to Down the Hatch and the other bars from the NYCBestBar group (Off the Wagon, 3 Sheets Saloon, Jake's Dilemma) for over 20 years but unfortunately they have changed for the worse. Down the Hatch, in particular isn't the same as it used to be. We used to go to these bars for the fun atmosphere and cheap drinks but prices have gone up considerably. In the past I would pay around $7 for a domestic pitcher during happy hour and around $13 during regular hours but right now it's $12 during happy hour and $22, yes $22 during regular hours for a Coors light pitcher. If you opt for Blue Moon or other imported beer it's more expensive. If you opt for a domestic pint during regular hours you'll pay almost the same you would pay at a bar in midtown. They no longer serve the famous Atomic Wings, instead they make it in house. It's tasty but not as tasty as the old Atomic Wings. On the plus side the music is still good, bartenders friendly and the vibe is nice, but I miss the old Down the Hatch!

This place is the perfect chill bar. Such a great vibe. The bartenders are cool and nice to talk to. The service is great. The food comes out fast and it's surprising delicious for a bar. The burger here has beat some burgers in restaurants and diners that I've tried. It's a very juicy double cheeseburger. They have a full bar but only American beers, no imports. They have beer pong set up in the rear and darts. Numerous tvs, each showing different sports. Festive lights flickering throughout with the feel of a dive bar. Happy Hour is Everyday until 7pm which is awesome and very rear. I highly recommend this spot. Just pop in and try it and I'm sure you will be a returning customer

W 4th Street bar in NY Univ hood. Take a few steps down from street level to Down The Hatch and you got Drinks, TVs and Best drinks in West Village. Fully stocked bar and positive, high energy Keyla gets it all going for guests. The music is bumping funky and plenty of TVs for all sports activities.

Lucas was the best bartender. He gave us recommendations for other places for pizza and cannolis. We couldn't have had a better time during the Knicks win.

I truly don't write reviews out of spite, but this one left a bad taste in my mouth. There was nobody at the door to greet me so I sat myself down. The bartender calls someone who I thought was going to be the server over to me, to ask me for my ID. So I did, and the server/bouncer/manager walked away. At the 20 minute mark there still was no server, this was at 6:20pm. This upset me and I walked out and to a different restaurant. The vibe of this place is also very off, like they're prison wardens. Might I add that the one person that I did encounter seemed as if he didn't want me there. However, online it seemed like a nice place to dine out. Very misleading, and I don't think anyone should patronize a business that treats their paying customers like crap.

Basic drinks and strong pours at great prices (for NYC). Loved our adventure to find this highly recommended bar. Bartender was great at giving us recommendations for NYC nightlife. Doorman was also friendly. Tiny bathrooms, but that's part of the charm!

This is a great spot with solid drink deals and friendly bartenders (Lucas, Kirk). $5 cans including Nutrl. Definitely recommend! They also have weekend bottomless deals.

the fries and wings simply put are what you want here and maybe a matching drink to go with it. this place is what you want to end with. the wings are crispy and juicy. the fries are crispy and perfect not oily. there are plenty of beer options that you can have try to come early and not on the weekend because it does get packed.

I used to be a big fan of this spot. Nice location and they have pong which is a fun game to play with friends. I unfortunately had a really unpleasant experience there with a bar tender yesterday 2/7. The bar tender yesterday was incredibly rude and possibly racist to me and my friends. I walked in with a group of 7 while the bar was entirely empty. He refused to let us play pong because 1/7 people wasn't drinking alcohol. They were willing to buy something else on the menu but he kept on saying if we got something other than alcohol it would be the equivalent of us loitering and ruining his business. He kept saying we were treating it like a library after all of us were drinking except for one person who abstains for religious purposes. I don't know if it was because my group was largely of asian descent but he kept telling us "this isn't a library". I don't know his name but he is the bartender with face tattoos and I have seen him have really rude interactions with people before. This is the first time I've seen it myself and the probably the last time I go or recommend this spot. Very sad.

I had my birthday here this year and had a pretty good time. They have a really nice and easy open bar package for groups that's $60 per person for a 3 hour open bar. I knew ahead of time that I wouldn't have a private room but was a little disappointed when I got there and they didn't even have any sort of assigned area for my group. I was also a little unimpressed with how uncoordinated the check in process was. I was told my guests would come to the bouncer, pay $60, and receive a wristband, and instead the guy with the wristbands was hanging out inside the bar so people were on a wild goose chase to find him all night. Ironically, it was very easy to coordinate with them beforehand and everyone I spoke to on the phone was great, it was just chaos the night of. I will say that they were very generous with the open bar. It was a little unclear beforehand whether actual cocktails were included or just mixed drinks, but they didn't limit us to mixed drinks. The bartenders were fast and I don't think anyone waited very long at all. They served a cake to me at one point and held onto it until the next day which was amazing! I was shocked when we were able to pick it up intact. All in all, there were a few kinks, but it was a nice night and I would consider having a party there again in the future.

My husband and I met at Down the Hatch 27 years ago and tonight we brought our oldest child, our Hatchling, to celebrate his 21st birthday. Gabe and the entire staff were a reminder of how awesome the Hatch was and will always be.

Love this place. They have one of the best happy hours in the West Village and on top of that there bar food is pretty good as well! Rustic but homey feel. The servers/bar tenders have always been kind and welcoming every time I stop by here.

Cheap drinks and a good time! I've been here a few times with friends and I leave pretty satisfied. The drinks are cheap and with the right group, you'll have a blast. Don't go looking for an amazing experience as this is truly a dive bar. The inside is pretty small but when the weather is nice, sitting outside is much better.

Sat down and was asked to order, great, looked at reviews and decided I just wanted to catch up on the games. Kept asking me to order to which I asked for a water and was told to either order or get out. Then waved goodbye as I was leaving.

This place is a fire hazard they let WAY too many people in at night on the weekend, you can literally barely move. Also remember the age range is about 21-24 year olds. Miserable for an adult lol

Went here for brunch. Got the bottomless mimosas and some wings. The place definitely changed since covid. Pre-pandemic the food and drinks were bottomless for an extended time. Now only the drinks are bottomless and it's only for 90 mins. After our 90 mins were up, we had additional drinks at the bar. I have no complaints about this place. The waiters and bartenders were friendly. The wings were good. Although they changed their bottomless brunch, it was nice to see they survived the pandemic.

I went in this spot around 6 to kill time before I was headed to somewhere else. This spot is nice inside, TVs all over, they play music through there wall speakers and it has some bar finger food available. If your a person that likes to go and sit, drink and watch sports then you'll be fine. The food I would skip as it wasn't good. I had the nachos and they were gross.

classic dive spot. good music. tried the infamous flamingo. it transported me to my frat days when we would shot gun warm natty lights like it was our job.

I've been coming to down the hatch for as long as I can remember! Lucas kills the game and welcomed us in with open arms. Made us feel part of the fam and could not be more grateful. Cheers fam!

No joke! A colleague of mine took me to Down the Hatch for my first drink in 2005 and I fell in love with kettle one & cranberry, atomic wings and waffle fries. One of the coolest and well known dive kinda bar in the village for happy hour specials like seriously 1/2 off prices on all alcohol beverages and they make their drinks stiff!!! Perfect place to go for drinks with a group of coworkers, friends or have a casual date. They have great deals on drinks, the best atomic wings in NYC, juicy waffle fries and good variety of music. Don't forget to take a shot at their ping pong tables and flirt with the boys! Most importantly, I'd recommend you bring a business card and drop it into the fish bowl. Whoever DJ'd last night on June 9, 2023 actually was the worst. Play better music. I felt like I was transported back to 2016 in the least pleasant way possible. Ruined the vibes and was mf weird.

I'm a big fan of these bars. I can walk in knowing exactly what to expect. Great drink specials, good bar food and awesome service. I love the jalapeño poppers and burger. Pretty much everything I've tried has been worth ordering again. Drink specials in NYC that you just can't beat. Join them in the side room for beer pong! It is definitely "down the hatch" though, as there is limited light in this basement bar, so know that going in, but it still remains as a great bar! 4/5

I'm such a fan. I had an absolute blast here, there is tons of space as it's an underground type place. Only knock is the prices, but that's New York for ya. Didn't eat, just got drinks but the vibes were awesome!

Happy hour! Hell yeah! Hit up this place while roaming the mean streets of NYC! Nobody blinked an eye as a large black guy entered the underground pub. Bartender was mad friendly as she explained that happy hour was in progress. A couple of cold beers were perfect as I wait to pick up my daughter from NYU. Great place to hang. Good music. Cheap beers. Cool atmosphere. Do it!

This bar is not what it used to be. Which makes me really sad to say as this used to be one of my favorite bars in the area.The last couple of times the service and quality of food has decreased significantly. I decided to give it one last try and went in on a Wednesday evening. The bar was relatively empty so I decided to sit at the bar. I sat there for over 10 minutes and was not acknowledged once by the bartender working that night despite my many attempts to get his attention. Not just me, there were a couple of other people waiting for him too. He seemed to be more interested in talking to only one group at the other end of the bar. I gave up trying to order a drink and just walked out. It's save to safe I probably won't be going to down the hatch anymore.

My friends and I went there again recently to have some drinks and chicken. The place is not that packed of people as we came here early in evening. We already ordered drinks, basically with strong pours at great prices. The chicken was good but we noticed the quality of food that has decreased too. Taste different from what we had from the first time there. The place is nice and chill though.

Some buddies and I came to New York to watch the Dallas Cowboys whip some NY Giants ass...(sorry New York I had to throw that in there) but we stopped in Down the Hatch for afternoon grub and to watch football on Sunday. We get there and it's packed full of people having a great time, we find a table, and walk up to the guy behind the bar to order food and drinks. ( he's the manager there and I'm not going to misspell his name so it's the guy behind the bar for now) Super professional and welcoming us Texas boys to his bar. Food was delicious and service was great. The guy behind the bar ends his shift and comes around to sit with us at the bar. Olga comes in to bartend next and well she's nothing short of amazing. Great attitude, impeccable service with a great smile. We end up having more drinks and then the manager shows us the sister bar to Down the Hatch and we ended, which was probably the best night in New York besides watching Dallas Beat the Giants, of our stay. I'll always tell everyone coming to New York best little place to hang out from this day forward! Cheers Guys! I'll be back!

One of the last minute place that we went, just for their well known LIT's! And let me tell you, 3 star is all because of their very well drinks + the service. The place is kinda ok! But definitely I would go here again for their drinks. We sat outdoors & it was nice.

It's a dive. It's an awesome dive. A fun time fueled by cold beer, great staff, good music and great drunk food! First of all each time we've been in we've been lucky enough to hang out with Katie the bartender - this lady is a winner with a great balance of sweet kid, love of fun and the toughness it takes to manage the likes of Friday night Village crowds. A great tap list includes both local and mass-market beers. Also a full bar with the usual suspects and all priced pretty reasonably. The topper though is a bar food menu that's pretty ridiculous - hot wings a dozen different ways (really good btw), fried macaroni and cheese, juicy onion rings, sliders - whatever you want. If you want to get away from the touristy Village bar scene, this place feels like home - especially if you live in a bar :-)

I was a bit drunk Friday night and did not make it into the bar -- however, the bouncer handled me with such care and compassion, (instead of kicking me out of line or anything like that he only said "I can't let you in sweetheart I am sorry" and made sure I made it outside safely. Shockingly, I also lost my phone that night outside of the bar. Come to find out a homeless man found it, returned it to the bar (with everything in it), and Down the Hatch handled it with care until I was able to retrieve it in person. The hospitality, service, and just kindness that I experienced when I went to pick up my phone was above and beyond. Huge thank you to the bouncer, the homeless man, and Kayla, Maura, and Lucas for just being all around good people. Next time I visit New York I know where I am going!!

They advertised brunch for $25 on their website but was $35 when I arrived, +$5 if you want a more variety selection of drinks. You're given a plastic cup that you write your name on (lose the cup and the specials end!), unlimIted bar food, and a wristband to order. I came early on a Saturday and I was able to get seats with a larger group of friends. The breakfast basket that was part of the brunch menu was DELICIOUS, it includes: 2 sausage, 1 hash brown, and 2 French toast sticks. I ordered two breakfast baskets! If you're a bar food person, tater tots, onion rings, and waffle fries are included as well. If you prefer buffalo wings, they're also in unlimited and come mild/med/spicy. WiFi is also free and quick. I would definitely come back because it gets lively and all the students from NYU seem to visit love it here.

Was just here the other night with a couple of girlfriends bar hopping and doing what we do best - having fun! Down the Hatch has delivered and it was a memorable night. The bartenders were super friendly and attentive and it was a great time. The bouncers/security guards even seemed friendly, and not that passive aggressive vibe you always sense from the others. Will return if I was in the area!

Would give a 0 if possible. Went in around 5:30 pm and was greeted with the rudest bartender who was rude when we didn't great them when we walked in. He yelled at us for our IDs and said it was unacceptable that we didn't ask him how he was doing. My friend ordered a vodka soda and he gave her a high noon and said it was "the same as a vodka soda just in a can without ice". A high noon is very much not a vodka soda. Bartender said "who walks into someone's house and doesn't fucking great them" verbatim.

THIS PLACE ROCKS - ARE YOU KIDDING ME: Every weekday - 1/2 price bar and beer - 11:30 to 8 p.m. A variety of ice cold draft beers for the sale price of $4 each plus great wings and fries. I'm in. I love this 1/2 underground dive bar - i could look out the window to the street above for hours. WHY LEAVE? For the same beer down the street for twice the price. No way. Add in Hot Girls and plenty of guys for those hot girls. Count me in.

One of our favourite bars for cheap alcohol and some really good bar nibbles. The music is really good here. It's always fun to spend sometime in this place with a group of friends. They have some good and cheap options for alcohol. It can get over-crowded at times but it's still fun and chill. Overall, great ambience, good crowd, safe and fun.

I will always have a great time here. This bar isn't glitzy glamorous NYC, so tourist beware. It's an amazing, cosy and casual bar tucked under this busy street. It's a place where you can escape the craziness of the West Village and just enjoy a good time with great drinks and friends. The food (yes, there's bar food) and drinks are super reasonable for the area and are always made incredibly delicious. They also have some of my favorite bartenders in NYC for how fun and friendly they are. Totally worth your time. Totally worth starting the night at. Don't miss out! Coming here for their 5 hour all you can eat and drink deall requires some preparedness mentally. Come in with average expectations, and just remember what you are paying for! My group of 6 showed up at little after 11:30 to grab a table before the deal started at 12. $35 gets you one plastic cup , unlimited food, and unlimited drinks (4 draft and mimosas). $40 gets you the same deal but with everything on tap! Don't lose your cup!!! Definitely order food right at 12 because once it gets crowded it is a lot off work to get food on time as it's a bit unorganized. The best food are the wings and tots! Thankfully, getting drink refills never took more than a minute of waiting so it's definitely worth the money. It's the quintessential college dive bar.

Brotastic dive bar shenanigans. Another stop during our random bar crawl through West Village. We have a couple of hours left to kill before heading back to work. The handy yelp search on the phone says this is within walking distance of the last bar we hit up, so here goes. We weren't specifically searching for DTH, but managed to stumble upon this spot. A few steps down from the street and we enter this little sports dive. It's like the college party moved from the frat house and into the basement. Rowdy is putting it mildly, and in a fun (insert national TV ad beer name) kinda way. It's Saturday night, and Down The Hatch's bar is packed. Not fire marshal level jammed nuts-to-butts, but the bar area sure seemed like it. Maybe 4-5 people deep, but I don't think they're all wanting drinks. It's just that there's not much room or open seating. We got some cheap beers, but no eats. We were on a mission to crawl this part of the city, not settle in any particular spot, although watching the drunken sh!t show develop is worth hanging around. Kinda bummed I didn't have an appetite because the bar bites looked good and the yelp approval rating on the snacks are trending positive. If you're looking for intimate, fancy, or hipster, then this won't be your cup of organic loose leaf tea. If you're good to bro down, then grab some cold beverages, maybe some kitchen snacks to soak up the alcohol, and party on!
