"With uniquely ornate Moorish Revival architecture featuring two 43-meter-tall towers topped by onion domes, the Dohány Street Synagogue is the grandest gateway to Budapest’s Jewish Quarter, serving the community as an active Judaic temple and providing a home to the Hungarian Jewish Museum. The synagogue is rich with history, and continually stands as a significant symbol for Budapest’s Jewish community in both bright and dark times." - We Love Budapest

"Dominating the intriguing Jewish quarter on the Pest side of the city, the Great Synagogue is a must-see for lovers of culture in general and Europe's Jewish history in particular. This is Europe's largest operating synagogue (the largest, in fact, outside New York City) on Dohány Street, which was once the boundary for the Budapest Jewish Ghetto. Inside are stunning Romantic and Moorish architectural elements like rose windows and a monumental organ. Other parts of the complex include a Jewish cemetery, a small prayer area called the Heroes' Temple, and the Hungarian Jewish Museum and Archives, built on the site of the home in which Theodor Herzl, the originator of modern Zionism, was born."

This was an amazing experience and one of my “must see” places in Budapest. I went earlier in the morning on a Sunday, around 11:00 am. There wasn’t much of a line so the entrance was a breeze. It wasn’t overly crowded so I could move around and see things easily. The museum was informative and easy to explore. The garden area was a nice place for quiet reflection. I recommend visiting. Just try to get there earlier.

We took the guided tour at this beautiful synagogue in Budapest, Hungary. The tour was really interesting and informative. The detail in the building and design is quite impressive. And the outside area and gardens are really beautiful. There is also a small museum with lots of historical artefacts and works to view. If you like experiencing history and different cultures, it’s definitely worth the visit.

The largest synagogue in Europe and one of the most iconic landmarks in Budapest, this stunning Jewish temple is truly a sight to behold. Its impressive architecture draws attention from every angle, and although we weren’t able to go inside due to it being closed that day, exploring the exterior was an experience in itself. Don’t miss the memorial park and sculptures located behind the building—they add a meaningful touch to the visit. While the entrance fee is on the higher side compared to other attractions in the city, we still think it’s well worth seeing.

The street has a lot of options for different restaurants and almost all the walls have different painting on them. People do come here to see these paintings and is one of the most visited place too

Here's a possible review: Our visit to the synagogue was a peaceful and uplifting experience. The atmosphere was serene, and the sense of community was palpable. This is considered the largest synagogue in Europe and probably the most recognized Jewish Temple in Budapest, what a stunning sight to see. The architectural features of this temple are very impressive, and we only wished we could have seen the inside, but it was closed to visitors that day. However, walking around the outside of this structure was amazing and do not forget to view the memorial park and sculptures located to the rear of the synagogue. If you do get a chance to visit, be advised that the entrance fee is higher than most of the other tourist locations in town, but we still believe it is worth the visit.
