Detroit Threads is the spot for vintage lovers, music heads, and anyone chasing that one-of-a-kind Detroit look. The store is packed with personality—rows of retro tees, funky jackets, old-school records, and rave-ready streetwear all living together in glorious chaos. You never know what you’ll find here, and that’s half the fun. Whether you’re crate-digging for vinyl or piecing together your next festival fit, Detroit Threads has that rare mix of grit, soul, and style. It’s proudly local, wildly eclectic, and totally unfiltered—just like the city itself. Bonus points for the knowledgeable staff who know their music and fashion history, and for the way this place captures the creative spirit of Detroit in every corner.

Amazing establishment! Almost felt like I was in someone’s home—the music and the threads were poppin! Make sure you find the pinky + the brain paperweight at checkout 😉

Went crate digging for used records with my son and he was very pleased with the variety here - heavy on the EDM/electronic. He noted that it was very well curated. He purchased several records but I left with none - I did buy a cool Detroit Threads hoodie as a souvenir. This is a crusty but cool place that looks like what ever comes in stays around until somebody buys it. There are used clothes and other odds and ends. The owner likely lives and works here as a lifestyle. It’s worth exploring but if you want a polished record buying experience you probably don’t want to visit. I dug it however.

Google
The best store on the planet! It's the #1 record store for vinyl records and merch from local record labels. The owner is one of my favorite people in the world!

Google
Really cool record shop. Was in town for a party and did some digging at a few stores, this one turned out to be my favorite. Large variety of electronic music, wish i had more time to look around. Will certainly stop back when I'm in Detroit again!

Google
My husband and I came in yesterday to check out some records. The vibe alone was truly amazing! Lots of Detroit techno, jazz and hip hop. I loved the wide selection, and we will definitely be back! The owner was so sweet and helpful.

Google
A true diggers delight! They buy massive stock of all things Detroit as well as some out of town house and techno distribution. A record that's no longer in the bins elsewhere locally will probably still be in stock here. Got a significant other who is tired of records? They've got plenty of vintage to sift through as well.

Google
Incredible selection of records including noteworthy deep cuts and everybody's favorites. Cool verity of merch including t shirts. Really affordable pricing across the board, like for real for real. The owner is super nice too. I love this place!

Yelp
cool shop in Hamtramck area is OK let's be honest... not that great detroit threads has some cool shirts (i hate vinyl, so zero interest), could use a nice ORGANIZATION overall; lot of junk, messy. but fun to go in to.

Yelp
Best record shop for deep digging. Techno, house, electro and more genres beyond electronic music, but really great for techno. Two turntables to listen to records before purchase (as any great record shop will have). Helpful, friendly staff.

Yelp
Detroit Threads is a cool little shop in Hamtramck on Jos Campau. The store is packed with vinyl to dig through while the DJ spins some tunes. There is also vintage clothes and housewares throughout the store. There is some vintage Detroit swag in the cases. Be sure to check out the amazing Detroit techno T-shirts & Polish/Hamtramck tees on the rack- I assume made in house.

Yelp
One Stop Shop for all your Disco and Rave Needs! Let me start with the music! Wow! As a visitor to the city of Detroit, I was merely minding my own business and walking down Joseph Campau when the sounds of Carl Craig, and then Theo Parrish lured me into this Motor City Wonderland of vintage tees, club gear from the 80's and 90's, hats, sweatshirts, leather pants, sunglasses, and so on and so forth! A great place for a wardrobe stylist to load up on some amazing items. Michael the shop keeper is a true Detroit historian who cares deeply for his community and shared many brilliant Detroit stories with me and my friends. There were tons of great, and I mean absolutely great albums on vinyl and some very rare CD's. His music collection is a DJ's dream. Gospel, Northern Soul, Techno, Jazz, Garage Rock, Motown and more! Oddly and pleasantly there was easily thee largest collection of original Stroh's items I have ever seen in one place. There were other local brands that were well represented in his store for those looking for bar collectibles and vintage work clothes, but the Stroh's collection really took the cake. In addition to all of these items, there was an abundance of odds and ends, such as an amazing Underground Resistance poster that we wanted to purchase for our friend in Italy, however it was not for sale :( A great number of posters, patches, pins, buttons, mugs, beer steins... It was endless. Michael is a true gem, very cool, very friendly, and made us feel welcome. This is a great store, and I hope to see him expand his space and do even more business as Hamtramck appears to be growing in the midst of some kind of renaissance.

Yelp
I'm really surprised that Detroit Threads doesn't have a website yet. It's too cool to just have a Myspace page! DT is a great place to pick up new and vintage clothes and accessories. I was... skeptical of a clothing store with such a bold name in downtown Hamtramck. Either this was going to be really good, or really REALLY bad. I was more than pleased with the place though. They have a vast array of clothing options for both men and women. It wasn't like some of the vintage stores around Detroit. You know the ones, the ones that you've combed over in ten minutes and found one or two decent but overpriced shirts. I liked that I wasn't paying a super premium for vintage here. They also carry new stuff as well, a good bit of Detroit wear to boot, which is comparably priced. I dig their belts! But alas, that will have to wait until next week. The only problem I have with the place is that they close early. I tried once to get in there after work - it was around 7 - and the place was closed! Actually, the owner was locking up when I walked up. He then went to the Belmont... and then I realized what a hard day's work was all about. But I'm not so sure that 7 is their normal close up time. Slow day? Drinks at Belmont! Sounds more like what I witnessed. Even so, the owner Mike is a cool cat who'll hook you up. I was very happy with the pants I purchased; not at thrift shop prices, but not at Macy's prices either. Take that, Ferndale!

Yelp
On a sweaty summer day, full of Polish food, I stumbled into this place. What a treasure! I was immediately greeted with lots of vintage hats (a weakness of mine) and overwhelmed with joy at the sight of tables upon tables of vinyl. The walls are lined with closets of some really incredible clothing. The gentleman at the counter was courteous. I'm going back. You should too.

Yelp
Simply put, this placed rocked my Saturday afternoon. There's a ton of excellent condition vinyl, wrapped around vintage clothes in great condition, and other gems you won't find other places. I had to stop myself from picking up a WABX T Shirt, though Mike had tempted me, letting me know he had a few different ones to choose from. The gems in this place are abundant, and it doesn't smell like a foot inside like many vintage shops.

Yelp
Oh, Detroit Threads I remember a decade ago when I would shop here for all my raver wear, sweet sweet memories. Now, this independent boutique in Hamtramck has evolved into a more diverse and promising shop. Located on Jos Campau this rad store now offers shoppers a great selection of vintage clothing, old music magazines, records, and more. Finding its home across from the Belmont this unique shop is always rotating stock so it's a great place to continually find new items, especially albums. The selection of 45's at Detroit threads is pretty hefty for a shop that was essentially a clothing boutique geared to the techno heads in the city. The owner Michael, is knowledgeable about the clothing and music he sells and is always looking for more. Detroit Threads is a fantastic, low key shopping experience for patrons, making it a great stop to either just browse or grab a few soul albums and a vintage, Gidget-esque dress. For more info check out Detroit Thread's Myspace page.

Yelp
So I come here sometimes to buy records. Although only a minority of the records are new, there are some good gems in the used stuff if you're willing to dig for a while. My only comment is that you will find some records that are very dusty or sometimes scratched. Another problem is that the turntables to test the records on (and the accompanying amps and headphones) are generally in very poor conditions with only a couple of them working and none of them really sounding good. The headphones are also pretty good so I feel nasty putting them on. But in terms of sheer number of electronic music records offered, this place might be the biggest in the state of Michigan, so it's definitely worth checking out. The new records can sometimes be overpriced, but the used stuff is a bit more moderate. The owner I believe actually runs his own Detroit techno label and will sell some of the records on it for fairly cheap ($6 I think). Sometimes it can be hard to park around here so I end up parking in the neighboorhood that's right to the west of it.

Yelp
I really like this place, and I would come back again. The prices are reasonable ranging between 10-15$ for most items, with some more expensive. Great selection of hats, shoes, jewelry and records. My only problem with the clothes was that a lot of the dresses were not "cool vintage" -whatever that means- but were mostly old ladyish, tapestry fabric type clothes, but maybe that's just a style difference Most of the clothes were in good condition. One thing, whomever first put up the place has the wrong address, I don't remember the specific number of the store, but it's a block or two down from the address on yelp, so keep walking :)

Yelp
Detroit Threads is awesome, just awesome. Owner Mikel Smith has a little bit of everything, and he's always on the look out for vintage finds, or for new ideas for t-shirts. He also had records, jewelry, shoes and odds and ends. I'm always proud to tell touring bands that are playing the Belmont or Small's to stop in to Detroit Threads. They always find something special to buy to remind them of their night in Hamtramck. PS - Regarding Michael C.'s review. The owner was probably closing up to go work at the Belmont. He works there when his day at the shop is over (and he doesn't drink) :)

Yelp
Mike Smith has kept a local business alive in Hamtramck for many years. That fact itself is impressive. Beyond that, a great selection and a great guy. Worth a look on your next visit to Hamtown. You'll pick up something.

Yelp
this place is my favorite record store in/around detroit. every time I come here I spend like 40-50 bucks and leave surprised with what I found. seems like they specialize in house/electronic music but they got a pretty thick but refined selection of everything else too. the dude lets you look around and do your thing without bothering you but can answer just about any question you could have. dope music always playing here he also stocks vintage clothes, old/newer zines, tapes, CDs and DVDs

Yelp
I would feel bad giving this place a 1 star review because I'm sure there are people who would really love it, but it was not the place for me. Basically I went in to dig for some records at a store in the area that I hadn't been to yet. They have a massive selection of house/electronic stuff, the biggest I've seen in the area. Unfortunately, I don't really know enough about that kind of music to really spend time looking through what they have. Instead I went digging through the rock and soul sections looking for some stuff on my wanted list and after a few minutes I had to call it quits. The bins were packed so tightly that it was a struggle to flip through the LPs. It seemed like a very lazy person just threw them in there because most of them were not even placed upright or facing forward. It was almost like you had to take small stacks out of the bins and flip through them that way if you wanted to really look through them. The last thing that really irked me to the point of leaving was that once I finally found some albums that I may have wanted, they had no price printed anywhere on them. Im sure anyone used to digging through stacks of used vinyl knows that price plays a big deciding factor on what you buy and what you put back, and the fact that they failed to do this was a huge turn off. I might stop back eventually, but for now if I'm going record shopping in Hamtramck I'll go to Record Graveyard.

Yelp
God, I love this place. All sorts of cool shirts and stuff like records and things like that. I got a Hamtramck t-shirt from Threads and I love it. If you live in Hamtown and haven't been here yet, shame. It's awesome! I don't even live in Hamtramck and I've been here twice. It's that cool.

Yelp
I thought this was a clothing store. It is, but it also has a HUGE selection of Detroit techno and chicago house and punk records. Totally sick! Lots of good stuff. I was completely overwhelmed. Records are moderately pricey, but it's a good specialty store. The owner is a scene veteran. Highly recommended.

Yelp
I've been visiting this shop since it's original location in Chene park. Very reliable, Vast selection of art and merchandise, extremely helpful staff. Unique gifts available at all times.
