Nestled in a cozy repurposed auto-body shop, this Portland gem serves up craft brews and delicious pub fare, radiating a welcoming vibe.
"Pub Grub Redefined When it comes to pub crawling in Portland, Deschutes Brewing is a classy stop to regroup and recharge in the Pearl. With more than a dozen taps pouring the usual suspects along with a collection of seasonal and experimental brews made specifically for Northwest tastes, the bar has something for every beer lover. The kitchen serves fresh, sustainable fare, including vegetarian and gluten-friendly options. Try the beer-battered halibut or the smoked brisket. The steamed clams with a side of sweet potato fries will also keep you going until your next destination."
"Do not overlook the elk burger at Deschutes’ downtown Portland location. Durham Ranch provides the third-of-a-pound, juicy elk patty, highlighted by the nuttiness of Gruyere cheese and the salty-sour of beer-brined pickles. The crispy onions on top also give the burger a nice crunch. Deschutes is open for dine-in, curbside pickup, and delivery." - Maya MacEvoy
"It’s certainly no secret that Deschutes is an OG in the Oregon brewing scene. It produces hundreds of thousands of barrels of beer annually, and its beers are distributed nationwide. Beers like Chainbreaker White IPA and Black Butte Porter define the styles in their categories, and as such are used as benchmarks by which judges at brewing competitions evaluate contenders. The pub’s spicy fried chicken and waffles packs a bit of heat offset by the sweetness of the maple gastrique and kale atop a sourdough waffle, and the garlic fries —tossed in a rosemary-orange aioli and topped with shredded manchego— have the potential to ward off vampires from 100 yards. Though it looks very different today, this former autobody shop dates back to 1919, with reclaimed wood and forest-lodge feel." - Ron Scott
"The large and airy Portland outpost of this popular Bend brewery is a draw for both locals and visitors alike. Deschutes serves a wonderfully cheesy mac and cheese with great texture: The dish starts with a base of cooked-down-and-pureed onions and spices in cream and Obsidian stout. Chefs then add a “ton” of smoked gouda, Obsidian-stout-smothered onions, spinach, aged white cheddar, fresh local radiatore pasta and breadcrumbs cooked under a broiler." - Maya MacEvoy
"Like Ecliptic, Bend-based brewery Deschutes will offer a vintage sampler with beers from 2014 to 2019, including specials. All merchandise, including beer to take home, will be 20 percent off through the weekend." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden
