I’m not angry, I’m disappointed.
I came to this restaurant 3 years ago and left a glowing review (see below). Sadly, since then things have changed, and not for the better.
A couple of weeks ago I ordered a burger, arancini and two cakes. The burger was dry and tasteless, the arancini divine, and the cakes (when they both finally arrived - took two goes) were delicious albeit very expensive. Ok, burgers don’t travel well, and admin errors happen all the time, I thought. Let’s try eating in.
I was the first there and the staff looked inconvenienced by my arrival. I was told to use a digital menu (absolutely fine in these times) but when I came to order was told many of those items weren’t available. Ok. Latte and two pastries then. The waiter making the coffee filled the portafiller with pre-ground coffee (I can only assume from last night) then proceeded to burn the milk to oblivion (no hand on the jug to check temperature). It was undrinkable, and regrettably I became that guy who told them so, but if I’m paying 8,000 COP for a coffee, it damn well better be drinkable. Do they not try their own products?
To their credit, they offered me a new one. I didn’t trust them enough to warm the milk, so an americano for me. A token grind to add to the quarter full container, then a pretty basic americano. I like café devoción - if they saw the lack of devotion to their brand here, they would flip.
Pastries to save the day? Nope. Not by a long shot. Dry, over-salted, greasy. Before we conclude, let’s see what me of two years ago had to say…
“Some of the best food in Bogotá. Highly recommend the lasagna, and make sure you save space for dessert! Will be coming back here for sure!”
Wow, what a fall from grace. This place reeks of what happens when you hit a peak, and take it for granted that standard will be maintained. Judging from the other reviews, the 5-stars all seem to be from years ago - similar to my previous review. The recent ones are less impressed, and rightly so.
Disappointing.
