Deanie's Seafood Restaurant & Seafood Market

The best part about Deanie’s Bucktown was the service. The restaurant was very accommodating for our large group and the server was great. The appetizers were next level. The colossal onion rings were flaky, stuffed mushrooms were hard to stop eating, and barbecue shrimp was a huge hit. What stole the show though were the boiled potatoes, with a small hit of salt they were unlike any other potatoes we’d ever had. The entrees left much to be desired, I had the red beans and rice with a grilled pork chop. The chop had good flavor, the beans had several parts/chunks of bay leaves and had a large chunk of pork fat that was inedible, the cornbread was good but was so sweet it was basically cake. The oysters were another huge hit and did not stand a chance at the table. The part of the restaurant we were sat in was very humid, not sure if it was due to the weather but it was a bit uncomfortable. My advice, let the server make recommendations and stick to the appetizers.

Great food and service! The red potatoes they give you are so good as an appetizer. Oysters are fresh but the stuffed mushrooms were to die for easily one of the best things to order here. The gumbo was also really good and can't go wrong with order a cup of bowl. We got the fried player combo with catfish, oyster, and shrimp and they were fired perfectly with good flavor. The carrot souffle was amazing, and can easily be eaten as a dessert. I will be looking forward to coming back here for sure.

Second time visiting and I was still pleased! Sat at the bar this time and had excellent service. The red potatoes as an appetizer had the perfect amount of spice to them. I tried the crab balls which were delicious and fried well. For entrees we had the fried shrimp and Fries and the fried soft crab with dirty rice. Everything tastes wonderful!

The red potatoes were delicious ; nothing needed to be added. My favorites were the carrot souffle, fried catfish, and the Crab and Corn Bisque. Our server "Felicia" was hands down the best! Wonderful asset to this establishment. We felt like we were eating at family. I do plan to eat here upon my return to Louisiana.

Worth the wait. As with most places, staff was short but all of them pitched in to make customers feel welcomed. We didn't mind the wait because we had a lot to talk about☺️We were a party of 5 and enjoyed meeting after years of separation because of retirement, moves to different states and jobs.

Portions are super huge. Think everything is shareable. I got the combo platter with shrimp, oysters and catfish and it was pretty awesome. Their fries are phenomenal too. Couldn’t finish my plate and that is pretty rare.

My family and I have been dining here for years, and every visit is nothing short of exceptional. If they don’t have their own boat, they must be getting seafood fresh off one, because the quality is unparalleled! I always go for the fried catfish platter, which is consistently perfection. The portions at Deanie’s are legendary—you’re served a literal pyramid of seafood. It’s enough to share, or if you’re like me, enjoy leftovers for a couple of days! Their seafood and super seafood platters are massive and perfect for sharing if you can’t decide on just one thing. A standout tradition at Deanie’s is their appetizer of hot, boiled red potatoes instead of bread. These potatoes, boiled in seafood seasoning, come out piping hot with just the right kick. Add butter, salt, and pepper, and you’ve got a delicious start to your meal—just be careful not to fill up before your main course! If there’s a wait, the bar area is the perfect place to grab a drink. I highly recommend their strawberry daiquiri, which tastes like a classic New Orleans snowball with a grown-up twist. It’s a must-try while you’re there. Back to the catfish: it’s fried to perfection every single time. Crispy on the outside, flaky and tender on the inside, it’s mild, fresh, and doesn’t need to be overly seasoned. Pair it with their homemade tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, or a squeeze of lemon, and you’re in for a treat. Deanie’s is also kid-friendly, making it a great spot for families. The only minor downside is parking, which can be tricky during busy hours, but there are nearby lots available on weekends and evenings. All in all, Deanie’s is a New Orleans-area classic for a reason. From the food to the service, it’s always an amazing experience. A solid 10/10—highly recommend!

Absolutely fantastic crab fingers! Had a great time at the bar. We ordered a half lb. shrimp, which was slightly overcooked and cold but still good. We used the sauce the broiled crab fingers came in to make up for that. The red fish was great! We're definitely coming back to this original location by the lake😊!
