"Chef Daniela del Balzo is full-immersion Roman, and she shares everything she knows at this intimate cooking school on the Aventine hill. For travelers who love Roman or even Neopolitan cooking, nothing beats a personal lesson from a local, and del Balzo will customize each recipe for your palate. A morning lesson includes appraising produce at her market, thenpreparing and savoring lunch in her nearby home. Learn how to make dishes like fried zucchini blossom, Roman lamb cacciatora , and maritozzi (Roman buns with whipped cream). Reservations required."

What a wonderful day we had with Daniela and Guillermo! We first enjoyed a trip to a local market to buy the meat and produce we would need to cook the meal we had chosen to prepare. The aromas and the beautifully displayed vegetables, fruits, meats and pastries made our mouths water. Once to Daniela’s lovely home, we met Guillermo, co-chef with Daniela’s son at Rome’s Marzapane Restaurant. He helped demonstrate and explain as we went along. They were both so much fun to work with, and made the morning a “cooking with family “ experience for us. We finished up with a delicious luncheon we won’t soon forget. If you have the opportunity, take the time to learn about Italian food and hospitality from experts. Joy Paolo, Dayton,Ohio, USA

I can’t say enough about how amazing this experience was. My husband and I had a class with Daniela this June during our honeymoon and it was fantastic! I was impressed after reading about Daniela’s experience and education online, but our class exceeded our expectations. Daniela met us at a local market in Rome, we discussed what we’d like to make and which ingredients we’d like to focus on (seasonal and fresh of course!), and then we went shopping. Daniela introduced us to the market vendors, gave us some great information about different ingredients and products, and then we headed to her kitchen. We were provided with recipes to take notes on and commenced our prep work and cooking. Our meal included appetizers, fresh pasta, an entrée, and dessert- all with wine pairings. We felt like a part of her family. Daniela was very encouraging and informative, and we loved the fact that we got to prepare everything. I would highly recommend this class to anyone looking to learn about Italian cooking and food culture and will definitely see Daniela again the next time we head to Rome; her class was one of the highlights of our trip!

The first thing to do in Rome is take a class from Daniella! Your palette will never be the same and you will be ready to explore all the wonderful food Rome has to offer! You just won’t eat anything better than the lunch Danielle teaches you to prepare. South a wonderful experience! Book early because she is in high demand these days!

I was in Rome traveling solo in November 2013. Before I went I did a lot of research on cooking schools before I choose Daniela's. A few of the reasons were she was located close to central Rome, she was very flexible as to what we could accomplish during the class and it could be a one on one class. Plus it was in her own home. Well I couldn't have been happier with my decision. Even before I met her she was very nice and helpful in letting me decide what I wanted to learn to cook. I basically picked my menu with her help and great suggestions. She was also willing to do the shopping for me and only having a cooking lesson. She agreed to concentrate on one type of food instead of a full start to finish menu. We ended up cooking five types of pasta. She had everything ready when I got there including coffee and even a few wine choices for me. The recipes were even printed out on paper for me to review while cooking and also take notes on. We cooked all of the dishes with the freshly bought ingredients as well as herbs from her garden just outside her kitchen door. When they were done we ate in her beautifuly decorated dining room. The hardest part was forcing myself to stop eating each dish as they were served as I knew I had five of them to try. And there was a ton of food. I had such a good time I decided to do a second class where we cooked five second courses two days later. All were excellent. Daniela was so accomodating that she was more than happy to allow a new friend I met in Rome to come by to catch the end of the cooking and enjoy all of the food with us. And there was still a ton left over. Daniela is an excellent cook and an even better teacher. The two classes I took and the time I spent with Daniela was by far one of the highlights of my trip. I would highly recommend attending her cooking school. I can say for sure that when I visit Rome again, attending another class or two will be on the top of my list of things to do!

I have had the most wonderful experience at Daniela's Cooking school. In fact I am still talking about it. I brought a small group of friends about 3 years ago and they are still talking about it. The tour in the market was wonderful and her lesson followed by lunch was over the top. We ate so much we did not eat dinner that day! Don't miss this mouthwatering experience. You will not be disappointed.
