Yelp
Howdy, my fellow "Twin Peaks" fans, please gather 'round. My log doesn't judge, but I do, and I approve of this coffee shop 100%.
...That was extremely nerdy, let me start again: If you're into coffee shops with unique menus and subtle themes, then Damn Fine Coffee Bar is your spot. The moment I came across this coffee shop on Yelp, I knew from the name that it was at least a slight nod to one of my favorite '90s shows, and actually experiencing the business yesterday made me feel genuinely comforted. Let me explain further.
If you were to walk in off the street not knowing anything about the show "Twin Peaks," you would simply assume that those who designed this shop have specific, yet stylish taste, and that they like trees. But as a fan of the show, I noticed some tiny and tasteful details that really make DFCB a true treat, like the WiFi password that's a nod to the villain of the show, the tiny Funko pop of dead Laura Palmer on a shelf, and of course the chevron-patterned wall behind the cash register, which reflects the floor design in the red room/waiting room in the show. These are all special little touches, and whoever designed this place truly did a wonderful job.
As I said earlier, the menu was intriguing as well: along with your regular coffees and lattes, they were offering a special drink yesterday: a CBD latte with honey (CBD = "cannabidiol," which is legal in Illinois because there is no THC). Sure, I saw the $6 price tag and thought, "it's just caffeine," but I'm always up for trying new things so I spent that $6, my friend. Since that was my first time trying a CBD latte, I really paid attention to the way it made me feel as opposed to regular coffee, and I'd probably describe the feeling as "caffeinated yet still calm." Usually when I drink coffee late in the day, my heart pounds a lot and I wonder if I've already drank too much. This made me feel awake but calm. Make sense?
It also never got too loud in here, the barista was very quick with my drink and the rest of the staff was kind, the restroom was clean and well-kept, and there were plenty of seats and outlets available when I showed up at 1pm on a Wednesday.
To sum this up: Visit DFCB, tip your baristas, and stay caffeinated!
