The 48 Best Things to Do in Paris

"Originally known as the Promenade Plantée, the Coulée Verte René-Dumont is an elevated park built atop a revitalized railway structure. Opened in the late 1980s, the lush garden path stretches for three miles, with landscapes ranging from modern and manicured to wild and natural. This greenway, which for many will recall New York City's High Line, provides an unusual panoramic view over the 12th arrondissement—and since this crosses through less-touristy neighborhoods, you'll get a sense of the real quotidian Paris." - Melissa Liebling-Goldberg, Julia Eskins

My adult daughter and I had heard about this beautiful elevated walkway before we went to Paris and it was a must see for us. We are so glad we took the time to experience it. We bought a wonderful picnic lunch at a nearby boulangerie, went up the stairs at the beginning of the walkway and soon found a park bench to sit and enjoy it. The birds were singing, and the sun was shining and everything was starting to bloom, it was just gorgeous! If you want to get nearby getaway from the busyness of Paris and have a soul refreshing, life giving walk, we highly recommend this!

Went jogging here in around 2000 and just (April 2025) found it back. Then a hidden treasure where I was jogging practically alone. Now (in the morning) for a lot of joggers and dog owners. A beautiful park on an old (partly high) high trailway: the green way. You can jog here for 4,5 km without needing to cross busy streets, it only gets more and more beautiful after every tunnel. Really recommend to jog here in the early morning when there is no crowd, because it gets really crowded during the day. Beautiful way to experience something special in Paris! You didn’t know you wanted to find this.

This little part of Paris should not be missed. Its a pleasant way to get a different view of Paris, in a park high above the street. It’s calm and opens up views you otherwise wouldn’t experience. And it’s free :-)

Total green space win for walkers who want distance and an elevated perspective of Parisian neighborhoods. Walk multiple kilometers, starting near La place bastille and ending near the beautiful bois de Vincennes, also epic if you want to get your walking on. La Coulee is the single best green walk I’ve found. Clean, picturesque, awesome.

This brilliant walkway used to be an elevated railway and was the inspiration for the New York Highline and Sydney’s Goods line. It is meant for the priority of walkers but there are plenty of joggers. Bikes are not permitted. The gardens are lovely and with spring coming will be glorious. The views of Paris are wonderful. A truly wonderful way to spend a morning.

Google
Fantastic elevated linear park, which was the inspiration for the High Line in NYC. If you’ve seen “Before Sunset,” Jesse & Celine walk along a portion of it about half an hour into the movie. Takes about 45 minutes to walk from the easternmost spot to the westernmost. On a late Monday afternoon I was joined by plenty of joggers, dog walkers, new mothers, and sunbathers.

I always make time to take a stroll here whenever I’m in Paris. Always so chill. No complaints, just a nice place walk and get a different feel of the city.

If you have the time, this is an amazing experience to see Paris neighborhoods from a different angle, beyond the amazing public transport and busy sidewalks. Think a designated bike path meets a more quaint highline in an elevated public green space

Yelp
Take a walk not far from Gare de Lyon, on an elevated old train track converted into a green path. Bring a snack and have a break on one of the benches along the way.

Yelp
I love this elevated linear park that is a little under 5 km and what a treat for the visitors & for the residents living along this park. I lucked out & got to experience it while there was an art exhibit spread along the walk. It is about a half hour leisurely walk. The walk is totally paved in concrete, so, no special shoes needed. Be sure to bring water & be warned, there are no toilets along the route. Highly, highly recommended.

Yelp
I'm so glad I found this gem! This old train path has been converted into a walking path with beautiful gardens all the way down. It's like a long, narrow park. Locals use it for runs or dog walks. We used it to catch Mr. Mime (Pokémon) and to walk off the morning pastries. We never encountered other tourists, only locals, and it's not crowded at all. The views it gives you of the area are very cool. It's not necessarily worth going way out of your way to see, but if you're in the area, I definitely recommend it.

Yelp
A Wonderful Stroll This is probably not the easiest park to find in Paris, but it is one of the nicest. It is essentially a narrow strip of green (mostly) that runs for a little more than a mile. There are many beautiful places to stop along the way, and there are shops and cafes below that great places to take a break. Note: we started our adventure at Square Charles Péguy.
