"This restaurant has a long and very interesting history, starting with the building itself (around 300 years old) and continuing with the history of the family at the helm, who have been here since 1930 and once provided support for the Royal Marines. The dining room boasts a rustic yet personalised decor with exposed brickwork and contemporary furnishings, while the cuisine focuses on fresh ingredients that are full of flavour. "Run by a young chef-owner who maintains his family legacy, this honest little restaurant continues to provide warm hospitality and good cooking, just as when it first opened in the 1930s. The name makes sense when you learn it refers to the 1940s, when the chef’s grandfather provided hospitality to the Royal Marines. Stone walls over 200 years old and a vaulted ceiling add to the appeal, while modern décor and a division into two rooms create an intimate atmosphere. Good quality local ingredients are simply but accurately prepared into flavoursome, satisfying dishes with subtle modern twists, and the interesting menu offers something a little different from nearby spots. The wild sea bass with marinated octopus and caponata features a thick fillet fried to perfection with crispy skin and a small ragout of browned, aromatically seasoned octopus with a tender bite; the caponata is fragrant and well-seasoned, with roasted wild broccoli and buttery mash alongside." - The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team

Fine restaurant, nice service. Nice presentation of food. We had scallops - excellent Duck breast - delicious But our Tuna is too salty, not sure is it normal so we didn't complain, just ate them but it not so nice. Dessert - dark chocolate tart - it's delicious

It was a pleasant surprise to see dedicated vegan options listed on the wall menu as we walked past the restaurant, especially since Google doesn’t indicate that they offer a vegan menu. We made a same-day reservation. Staff serving us were very courteous and cordial. We shared two vegan dishes. Both were enjoyable, though not particularly exceptional.

Was not expecting what turned out to be a gastronomical adventure! The chef himself spoke with us and gave his opinions and were well founded. The combination of the flavours were nothing short of artistry, the service was knowledgeable andattentive without being overbearing. Wine selection was on par with the food, highly recommend!

We found this spot through the Michelin Guide recommendation, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The duck — mentioned in almost every review — truly deserves the praise. 🦆✨ I went for the fish, which unfortunately wasn’t the best choice that evening — a bit underwhelming, but nothing critical. Still, the atmosphere was lovely, the service attentive, and overall it’s absolutely worth visiting.

Our dinner at Commando was quite the experience! We enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and stellar service. The food had so much flavor and the combinations of ingredients felt very unique but made sense. If you have the opportunity to try this place out, you should definitely do it to give yourself a fine dining experience.

Overall good. But please stop putting the hot tortellini on top of the raw beef tartare - it cooks the beef on the surface and beats the purpose of having a tartare. You’re using good fresh ingredients but the construction of the dish is not thought through. Work on the seasoning as most dishes were lacking it - and flavour!

Absolutely stunning meal! The staff are professional, knowledgeable and make you fell right at home. The food is divine! Fresh, flavourful and something for everyone. This is a must when visiting Malta.

We had a really lovely evening at the Commando. The service was a top notch and the food was fascinating! It was my first time trying the duck breast and couldn’t be more pleased! the risotto was beautifully made.
