Unique & different - how I‘d describe my visit to Sydney Harbour‘s biggest island.
Visiting Cockatoo Island, I realised that it is more than just an old convict precinct. It also used to be a school and one of Australia‘s biggest boats were built here as well, especially during WWII. Really a place full of history and different facets.
Having visited a couple of former UNESCO convict precincts in the country, I can say that the precinct on the upper part of the island is indeed interesting to look at, although it feels a bit smaller compared to other sites. Unfortunately, it missed the typical museum feel and maybe could have had a few more information signs and display items here and there. Other historic sites in Aus do this wonderfully - This one is more on the smaller side. Still worth checking out, especially considering its proximity to the city.
Nevertheless, it was certainly interesting to visit this little island with beautiful harbour views. Also enjoyed the ferry ride.
