This is my favorite place to go for sweets whenever I go to Ventura Harbor! I'm rating this place for its ice cream, not its parlor offerings.
I've tried a variety of flavors, including salted caramel (C6 cone, Seasaltyaki), the Hawaiian remix (C3, Tikiyaki), and my very favorite, the ubeyaki fish cone (C4), which has ube (also known as purple yam) ice cream with Oreo crumbles and Nutella.
I give this place a 5 stars solely because of the C4 ubeyaki fish cone. The seasaltyaki was also delicious, but it was not as creamy and flavorful as the ubeyaki fish cone. It was a bit icy. I found the Hawaiian remix C3 cone to be a notch above mediocre, as I wasn't a fan of the koolaid-esque fruit punch flavor that was mixed with the Dole pineapple whip.
If I were given the ubeyaki blindfolded, I would never be able to guess that the flavor was based on a type of yam! It was absolutely delicious and blew the other flavors I've tried out of the water. Ube is traditionally served with Filipino food, and I'm generally lukewarm on ube-flavored things. I enjoy it, but it's unlikely to be my favorite thing on the menu. The texture of this ice cream is smooth and thick, and the ube flavor is sweet and very robust. There are no hints of sourness, fruitiness, or bitterness. I would describe it as similar to vanilla with a hint of nuttiness, which produces a full flavor with some depth. The Nutella and Oreo are perfect toppings to complement the sweet creaminess of the ice cream. The Nutella sits on the inside of the cone.
Yes, this place is a bit expensive, with fish cone ice cream and adult cones selling for $9.50, but what in this shopping center isn't? You're paying for the location and convenience. The wait can be a bit long (sometimes 15 minutes) but not horrible. They are very cute and Instagramable (as you can see from my picture), though don't forget to ask for napkins! For the ubeyaki, it is entirely worth it!
