"The dance floor at this old-school salon, cloaked in red light, comes alive as locals, tourists, and old timers twirl and shuffle to a live band. Try your hand at salsa, merengue, cumbia, and norteña numbers as waiters in crisp whites with black bow ties circle the room serving liquid courage. There's no shame in bad dancing, so try and learn the steps. (The pros might even show you a thing or two.)" - Scarlett Lindeman

"Club San Luis, a red-hued venue with over 70 years of history, hosts devout regulars and is known for its entry rules regarding singles and groups. The club features a halo of women, known as ficheras, who dance with patrons in exchange for dance tickets called fiches."

FYI - This place attracts a lot of foreigners. A nice-looking space, and the live band was tight, but I wouldn’t come here expecting the most authentic Chilango experience.

TLDR; Avoid at all costs. This place is an absolute scam. The energy in Club San Luis is REALLY sketchy. This is an overpriced club that is not even exclusive. Staff are pushy and hostile towards consumption and they will ask you to leave if you don’t drink, regardless of the fact that YOU PAY AN ACCESS COVER FEE. My prediction is that this place will eventually close down. You’re better off in any other place in the area for dancing with better vibes and less of a scam.

Do not go near. Expensive entrance fee, super expensive drinks, too loud music (and bad one) and on top of all that , if you happen to come with poppers because you’re going to a party afterwards, they will take it, tell you at the entrance they keep it and even ask your name to keep it, then will tell you when you leave that they have thrown it. Thiefs and bullies. Never going there again

It’s a bit too pricey. The salsa band was great, but we didn’t feel too welcome despite dancing salsa and having drinks and appetizers.

A horrible and rude hostess! If they really consider themselves a high end place (which I incredibly doubt), they have to teach hostess, how to speak with people! So we were asking our new frends where we can dance salsa after another good places finished it's work and were recomemended this one. Cane at 2 AM and I asked histess does they have a salsa, because I can hear only reggeton. She look at me from head to tou and said in were toxic way, that they had banda, but it's "botella". I didn't get it and ask again, she repeated one word, which means bottle. So I even had to ask my friend what is going on. Only after some time he understand, that we have to consume one bottle. I asked bottle of which and she said any. On my question how much champagne will be she unswered around 7000pm, which is ridiculous even for a NY measures. But the price wasn't the biggest problem - the problem was an attitude of stuff! Avoid at all costs, if you don't want your evening to be ruined with a people, who don't know how to work in service! Muy braso y muy mal! Hostess no tiene ninguno respecto!

Great bar for live salsa - went on a Saturday night and had lots of fun. Prices are on the more expensive side but no cover charge. The doorman did not want to let us in, unless we (group of 12 people) payed 600 MXP/ PP minimum consumption and ordered bottles for the table. We managed to get in, from then it was a very fun evening

Yelp
This place is so great. It's a traditional dance hall where men can buy dances for 30 pesos, but everyone goes, even hipsters who can't really dance salsa and cumbia get up on stage and shake it. It was the best dancing experience of my life because everyone felt so free and expressive. Great band, and lots of hardcore cumbia, even Angeles Azules. Love love love it.
