Clayton Hotel Cork City

Stayed at the hotel for a week. On arrival check in went very smoothly with a friendly reception member. Unfortunately on check in we were told that the pool and leisure facilities were closed due to an unforeseen maintenance issue, we had not received any information prior to check in , during our stay we were told several times the pool would reopen soon, other guests had informed us is was in fact open 2 days before we were told, which was 2 days before our departure! They charge €3 for a swimming cap, which I would have happily paid for a week’s stay. ||The room an executive king and was on the 5th floor, on opening the door we were greeted with a boiling hot room, all be it very clean and spacious . The air con wasn’t working so spent a rather uncomfortable night , although we had windows and a patio door we couldn’t open then due to the outside noise. Having complained to reception we were informed that we could either down grade to a standard room or wait until the following day for another room the same as the one we had booked, we chose the latter option, we were given 2 rather noisy fans which only seemed to blow the warm air around the room so yet another uncomfortable nights sleep. We were eventually given an upgrade to a beautiful suite on the 6 th floor. ||The room was amazing , lots of space and on entering was spotlessly clean. The only downside I can honestly say was the housekeeping , or lack of it ! The room was not vacuumed until we asked for it to be done , we asked for extra tea this was not given until we tracked a team member down. It seemed that the staff were in and out as quickly as possible , not acceptable for a 4 star hotel . The bedding was not changed during our stay, unusual as it’s normally done mid stay. ||Breakfast had a varied menu and was delicious, evening meals we would not recommend , overcooked and overpriced , with very limited choice.||Although other reviews state about homelessness , prostitution and drugs we were river side so saw and heard nothing. Some issues need addressing but we would definitely return and recommend this hotel but make sure you get a riverside view.

We stayed here for 10 days (weekdays) for work. Staff are friendly. The location is very accessible to everything and city centre. We were happy for our stay even though we noticed negative things in the hotel/room during our stay, but we ignored that as the staff are friendly, but not until yesterday. We usually keep the clean tag outside of our door to clean our room. But yesterday, we didn't put it as we were thinking this is already our last night. But when we came back in the evening after work, we were so surprised that someone entered our room and cleaned it. We also have one paper bag with snacks but it's not there anymore. We don't know if they accidentally threw it, as it's in a brown paper bag. Nothing important was missing, but we felt that this hotel is not safe at all. Our first question was, How did they know that no one was inside our room? And what if I am inside? And surprisingly, they will just enter our room? We went down to reception to report that, she already mentioned that if we don't put the clean tag they are not supposed to enter our room. She said she will send an email to the accommodation manager, We did check out today, and no one talked to us. How could they enter our room without any permission or without our request to clean it????

Very nice rooms, nice pool, sauna and gym too.. great location. Average service, room refresh doesn’t even include replacing used towels! You’ve to pay for basic dental kit! Absolutely below average breakfast, hardly any options.. the servers were very courteous though! Overall, had higher expectations but the hotel didn’t meet them.

Nice hotel, comfortable stay, and delicious breakfast. This place is right in the centre of everything which makes it so convenient. This is our first stay in Cork, and we enjoyed our time here. Rooms were warm and beds comfortable, we was short on towels, but the reception staff brought more up. All round a nice place to stay the night. It would be nice if more toiletries were in the bathrooms, but the stuff supplied in the dispenser was decent enough for one night stays.

I want to preface this review by saying the room we had was nice, clean and the bed comfortable however, overall unimpressed with our one night stay. Booked this hotel on a Thursday to stay the next day for one night. Received emails after booking informing me that the leisure and gym facilities will be undergoing maintenance work on the 16th September - which was fine as we arrived on the 13th September so expected to avail of facilities as normal. |However on 14th September arrived to leisure centre and the jacuzzi was not working - no notification of this in emails. As well as that I did not have a shower cap so I requested one and asked could it be charged to the room to which I was told it cannot and I did not have any cash with me to purchase one. Ended up not using the facilities and went to breakfast, to see the bread and cereal uncovered, and inundated with flies around it. Requested a coffee - expecting options as it is a 4* hotel, to be given instant coffee made up in a pot |Went to reception to check out, no question from the receptionist if everything was okay, so I addressed the above issues, receptionist went to speak to the duty / office manager, who was "unavailable" but told the receptionist to refund our breakfast. When I identified that it isn't good service for the manager to avoid speaking with guests - low and behold manager arrived. Manager said the coffee is standard across the 56 Clayton hotels - but then said we could have ordered an americano or a cappuccino - we weren't made aware of this. Manager said they thought that the info in regards to the jacuzzi was sent out via email which again it was not. Hotel refunded €50 - so €200 for a very sub par stay. |I can see that there are a few negative reviews of late in regards to this hotel, I hope management takes heed of them in order to provide a better service to ensure business going forward.

Overall it was a good stay. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean. The shower was great, it was nice that the shower head was removable. A slight negative in the bathroom was that there was no shaving mirror. The bedroom had good storage, but could have used a few more hangers; 4 were inadequate. The room felt spacious, there was adequate seating and a table which was helpful when we ordered room service. We felt the room was overall a bit dark. Lack of lighting we felt was an issue (especially as a woman trying to do my makeup (the bathroom mirror is too far away to see without glasses) and the plug sockets were unhelpfully located but they did include USB - if it were positioned at the side of a bed it would be better, it was just too far away for any of our cables to reach to charge while using. The room service we ordered was okay, the chips were raw but the chicken was delicious, albeit a small portion. We didn't use the pool facilities so I am unable to comment, but it was nice that they were there. Parking was good, but I felt for the price it should be included. Breakfast was not very good, the quality of the cooked breakfast was very poor and I do not believe that any of those ingredients were local as advertised in the restaurant. In future, I would get breakfast elsewhere. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. It was a good stay, but not a great stay. I think that there were a few things that could be improved and were expected for a 4 star hotel. I would probably stay again if there was an offer.

We arrived in the evening at the hotel. The hotel is located. downtown Cork and from the hotel everything is in walking distance. The hotel is a modern hotel but still older an even, so it's look like that they started the renovation there is still work to do. |The part which are renovated is the lobby and the room we got. The room had a nice size, was clean. Nothing to complain, the staff at the lobby was friendly and professional. |The gym/spa was under renovation – bad luck for me. So, the hotel is a good business style hotel, centrally located in Cork. It’s not a charming hotel or hotel you must remember, but it’s good for a day or two to examine what Cork has to offer.

Everything about this place is perfect. Location is easily walking distance to train station and anywhere downtown you would want to go. Staff was wonderful and friendly. Rooms were amazing. Will definitely stay here again!

Overall it was a good stay. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean. The shower was great, it was nice that the shower head was removable. A slight negative in the bathroom was that there was no shaving mirror. The bedroom had good storage, but could have used a few more hangers; 4 were inadequate.
